Mövenpick Hotel Wellington charms many with its spotless rooms and commendable housekeeping, although some guests find the rooms a bit compact. The hotel's location is a hit for its proximity to Wellington's attractions, despite the occasional steep walk mentioned. While the staff generally receives high marks for friendliness, a few visitors have encountered less attentive service. Extra costs for parking and breakfast have led some to question the value, but the welcoming atmosphere and amenities like the chocolate hour and sauna are often praised.

My partner and I stayed here over the weekend. When I first read the reviews I was worried but I decided to take a chance and I'm glad we did the rooms were clean we had a heat pump that kept the room cool on a very hot weekend we had a very large bath with shower over. Bed was comfortable and staff were very friendly. Only suggestions would be a couple extra towels and toilet paper in the bathroom and a cleaner did just open the door to our room no knock although there was a sign to lock the door I wasn't expecting it but it wasn't too much of a bother. We will stay again.

I stayed for one night at Grand Mercure Wellington so I can't say too much about the hotel overall.

It is located in what I would consider an odd place for a hotel; a fairly residential area near the central Wellington. However, the area is quite, it is up a hill.

I chose a Superior King room, and it was advertised to be 17sqm (if I remember correctly) and I a little curious about the size of the main space. It turns out it was quite adequate for one person. To make adequate space, there was a small desk and chair against the wall opposit the end of the bed and trimmed down closet space which isn't big enough for a suitcase.

The room arrangement left a decently sized open space between the bed and the window.

The bathroom was very clean and came with all amenities. I would say fairly average in size and not large enough to have two people in there, unless one person was having a shower.

The room inside is clearly well maintained and modern. The carpet was soft, many USB ports in the walls, large television with casting. The middle of the television however was not aligned with the middle of the bed.

The bed itself seemed like a super king and was very wide.

We came here with a tour group for two nights. I have a lot of positive things to say and nothing negative, thus I give the five-star review.

We liked the friendly greeting in the lobby by the staff, along with iced tea and cookies. The lobby is a cozy place. When we got up to our room, we enjoyed the view of the city.

The bathroom has nice, big towels. There is pleasant, muted lighting if you want it and also bright light if you need it. The shower was wonderful with its pulsing rainwater effect. You can use either the attached or detached shower head.

The room itself is gorgeous, with pretty wallpaper. It has an extra-large TV with a good selection of channels, including some from the U.S. There is a large, padded headboard which is quite attractive. The pillows on the bed are standard-sized and comfortable, as is the bed. While the room is pretty and comfortable, it is also functional, with four USB ports for charging devices.

If you enjoy the pool or sauna, or if you’d like a gym, they have a wonderful facility.

As for location, we walked to the botanical garden. Don’t miss that while you are in town.

If I visit Wellington again, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed at grand mecure on Friday 7th of Feb
Amazing staff greeted us at the reception..we were able to check in a little early which was great because we travelled from auckland and were quite tired
Enjoyed the pool and sauna
Room was very clean and tidy
Loved the dinner at forage restaurant with couple of margaritas which amazing Amalie served us..she was very helpful.
Next morning we had beautiful breakfast unfortunately it was bit upsetting by the behavior of one of the waitress she was quite rude. We were also quite alarmed as one of the supervisors opened the room door without knocking 🤔
Other than that it was really good experience and would come back again

It is something I would like to resolve if you can drop me an email on h1991-gm1@accor.com I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for taking the time to share your stay with us Look forward to talking more soon Kind regards Jade Bolstad General Manager

I am a bit mixed on this review because on one hand I found the hotel quite appealing, but on another, I found it lacking. First let me say that we stayed in this hotel as part of a tour, so I am unable to offer a price/value relationship, but I would easily label this a 4 star hotel. The lobby is nice and the restaurant is also good, and offers a very good breakfast (one of the best of all our New Zealand hotels). The room is comfortable and the staff is friendly and helpful. What I found less appealing was the dysfunctional aspect of the guestrooms. As a frequent traveler, I am often dismayed at how often hotel rooms fail to offer logical things like adequate space to hang clothes, towels and personal articles. This hotel was no exception. So once you adjust your routine to finding places to put your things, you are on your way to a good time. The other thing is location. It is a good long walk from many things. Now in fairness to the hotel, this is partially due to the natural shape and configuration of the city- built on a hill and shaped like a bowl. With a configuration like that, it is probably difficult for any hotel to be close to everything. So suffice it to say, that just about anything you wish to do will be a good 15-20 minute walk away.
As the hotel is built on a hillside, I believe you enter the lobby on floor 5. So your room may be above or below the lobby. My suggestion: try to be no lower than floor 3. Higher is better. The lower floor rooms (we were on floor 1) almost felt like being underground. So in summary: choose a higher floor, don't try to unpack everything, be prepared for a good walk (or taxi) and you will enjoy this otherwise very nice property. Suggestion: visit Cuba Street which is a happening street with shops and restaurants and very close to the hotel!

On the last day of our conference, decided to stay an extra night to relax before heading home. Also to catch up with friends and family. Check in prompt and pleasant. Our twin room was facing the Terrace so there's small window we can open instead of the aircon at night. Location was central, go down to level "0" from a lift by the bar and it's basically Willis Street at the back of hotel. It's slightly steep walk coming back up though. Buffet breakfast was good value

I was unaware we would have to wait 4 hours for our flight to Wellington. We were not prepared for that and were not  advised about this process at any stage. We had people who had 2 days flying from Ireland, Scotland and England who were extremely tired and hungry. There was a small bag of snacks given and no opportunity to purchase any food. Maybe if we were advised of this previously we could have been prepared physically and mentally.

I say all this to let you know how grateful we were to come to this hotel. They checked us in quickly and had a lovely meal with  basil pesto pasta with sundried tomatoes as well as fruit and a biscuit waiting for us upon arrival. The staff is amazing and cannot do enough for you. The meals are so fabulous I posted them the Miq Facebook page, and hired an exercise bike. My room is immaculately clean and a great size, the bed is better than my bed at home. The shampoo and conditioner etc is great quality and smells really nice.

If I have to be in isolation I feel truly blessed to be here.

Just got a call from the F & B Manager making sure everything was alright. Wow the details of the staff is fantastic.

I have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world and this hotel has me impressed.

I will definitely come back here anytime I need a place to stay in Wellington.
If you are looking for lovely hotel in Wellington look no further then The Grand Mercure you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Grand Mercure you guys totally rock.

Checked in fine, decor was nice and room had a good city view. We were out at the museum so missed Chocolate Hour but a quick call to reception and a kind staff member offered to make up us a tasting plate which my child really appreciated.
Downsides: very noisy aircon, sauna wasn't working and kids space wasn't open even though the sign said it would be unoperational for 2 days prior to our stay. The remote control in our room was so dirty and gross, l went to get some antiseptic wipes from the gym area, but their dispenser had run out, so I bought some at the supermarket! In the context of Covid I would have expected better cleaning of high touch areas in the room and other areas of the hotel, and certainly in a 5 star hotel it's these details that should be taken care of as part of daily checks and quality control.

This hotel is very nice! I like that there is a guest elevator to take you to the bottom floor so you can avoid some hills, if you are walking into town. The hotel is very clean and updated, as are the rooms. Our room was very clean and the room was cozy and updated, however it was super tight. My husband and I found ourselves stepping over our suitcases to move around.

We really like the location and view, and it was a quiet room. The only thing I would change besides having the room a tad larger is the bathroom door. Not really a point of having one when it doesn't seal closed, so you can hear everything.

We did not experience the restaurant or bar, but it looked delightful.

Stayed here as part of a planned trip around north island. Was really looking forward to a 5* stay as our other previous hotels had been sadly lacking. Despite stating it is a 5* it clearly isn’t. Firstly there was no concierge we had to manoeuvre a very full trolley ourselves.
Once in the room there are no drawers to store items of underwear or such like (we had to used the desk) and very little storage in the wardrobe.
Air conditioning is very noisy so disturbing at night when wanting to sleep
Chocolate hour was a joke it’s a chocolate fountain some children’s jelly like snakes bits of fruit and cake
Restaurant is staffed by mainly untrained youths who have no clue what do do - the chefs telling waiting staff where the tables were located. Service is extremely slow and food sits on the pass whist waiting staff walk past. Our 2nd experience in there (because of the weather) we were told that the bar snack menu was not for the restaurant (it was pointed out that previous night we had been given that plus the room service and the dinner menu and told we could have food from any one her reply was that was a mistake then proceeded to give us the snack menu) she was very unprofessional and lazy disappearing on many occasions that said so did the staff.
Room has a desk and chair) but not an office chair) so doesn’t fit under the desk.
Toilet roll continually comes off the holder because the lip on the end is not big enough very annoying.
There is no ‘easy’ chair to relax in
Numerous unnecessary cushions on the bed.
Parking is $30 per day but they fail to inform people you can park at the rear of the hotel for free!
Not sure about you but I have stayed in many real 5* hotels and this is nowhere near them in respect of service or amenities.

It's not very close to the inner city. Maybe a 10 - 15 minute walk downhill. There are some steep streets to walk up getting back to the hotel. In saying this, the hotel has quite good views.
