Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very disappointed with the customer service at the Travelodge Wellington, as we were made to feel unwelcome from the first minute we walked into the hotel reception. This was most surprising given that I have been trained in the hospitality business myself, Hotel MANAGER (Matt) who thought it was acceptable to be rude and dismissive to his customers while making them feel like second-class citizens was shocking to us. In our case, we were made to feel unwelcome just because we booked through a third party (Booking Club). At that point, we did ask to cancel our booking and we were happy to go to another hotel, but the Manager (Matt) just laughed and said NO!! It started when we had informed the Hotel Receptionist that we just had a 27-hour flight, and we were exhausted and would have liked a warm hotel welcoming NOT a rude uncaring hotel reception, but instead, when the Manager (Matt) himself had the tenacity to encourage us to complaint as it wasn't going to do much as the complaint stops with him. The hotel location was convenient, but I wouldn't say it was worthy of a 4-star hotel, as if it was up to the standard, it would first have to exercise an important aspect of hotel management i.e., customer service, and further provide hotel rooms with no bugs.

Dear ElenipR6073VM, Thank you for taking the time to share your valued feedback with us. We trust that it is only through guest insights such as yours, that we can strive for improvement and uphold the great customer centered values Travelodge Wellington upholds. That being said, I am disappointed to read of your experience with us, and rest assured this will not be taken lightly. Please take comfort in the knowledge that we have escalated this matter to senior management for the purpose of investigation and retraining. Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, and we sincerely hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our Travelodge some time in the very near future, with a much better experience. Kind regards, Joni M. | Front Office Manager

Our Hotel check in / out at the Travelodge was a terrible experience, we were made to feel that our online reservation via Booking Club ( or any third party) was in a sense compromising the hotel earnings and reason for them to treat as like second class guests. The Manager (Matthew) himself was mocking us when we complained about the lack of customer service from his receptionist (Amber) and that we were made to feel very unwelcome. The Managers (Matthew) continued to hardened his attitude towards us and made out that we were lucky even to be at his hotel, and that under a Booking Club (or any third party) reservation we should not expect welcoming customer service from his reception , and further he didn’t care if we were to complain or provide negative feedback to others. Further, on check in there were hidden credit card security deposits demanded from us, i.e., in amongst a misleading hotel banking process. In our case the demand made was supposed to be a pending authentication but instead the full amount was immediately withdrawn from our bank account, with an unclear process on when and if we will ever be refunded our security deposit by the hotel. On top of all this we actually found a cockroach in our room, and were further dismayed. For us it was just an all out awful experience at the Travelodge primarily due to the extreme lack of customer care, as such we believe a lot of damage has been inflicted on NZ’s hospitality image.

I was mostly disappointed by the staff, especially the last person who I talked with. While I was doing my check out, I ask for an email address in case there is a problem with my caution. The receptionist answered to me as I was a dumb person and raised his voice. He didn’t give it to me and barely told me goodbye and thank you. What a way to tell me to get out ! Anyway, I didn’t complain but now I will : - don’t take an extra bed in your room there are not confortable -try to be at the opening of the breakfast because even one hour later, they don’t top up the food and the place is messy I send a message to the hotel before writing this to let them know and no answer… I will not applause the customer service

beautifully large bed, clean linen. the only thing wrong for me was that the bed was to soft, what has given me a sore back. Also the TV is to small for the size of the room. But it had a beautifully view out of the window.Great location in the middle of the city.

Greetings Thank you for recently staying with us here at the Travelodge Wellington. You will be pleased to hear that the tv's are in the process of being upgraded, unfortunately it wasn't your room. Apologies that the bed was not to your liking. We do have rave reviews about our beds but should you book again please add a request for a harder bed and will do our best to accommodate. I agree with you that the Executive rooms do have great views and the Hotel is in a prime location. We thank you for your comments and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Regards Matt Fairey GM

The shower also had no door so water seeped out on to carpet but pressure of shower was awesome...breakfast was ok and allowed us to leave bag there so we didn't have to lug it around. Would have forgiven everything else if we had no friends in our bed :(

Not really a king bed at all. May as well be a single as you can't sleep on the ridge in the middle. Staff were excellent, rooms were clean. Facilities were as you'd expect. Price a bit high for what you get but that's partially the location.

Nice hotel, spacious room, clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner were fine. Just 13 minutes' walk from the iconic Te Papa Museum in the heart of Wellington. Located very near to Lambton Quay where you find a wide variety of shops and eateries. A pity, though, that as a hotel guest you also have to pay separately for parking!

Hi Betty Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us. Glad to hear that your stay was up to your expectations. I will be happy to share your thoughts with my team accordingly. Even though it's the cheapest parking in town, I understand your thoughts, however as it's not owned by the Hotel but by Wilson's parking there is a cost involved. We are fortunate enough to have parking spaces somewhat closer to the Hotel than the standard parks and at a discounted rate that we pass onto our guests. Again, I thank you for staying with us and for choosing the Travelodge Wellington as your preferred Hotel while in Wellington. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Regards Matt Fairey GM
