Detailed Reviews
With the 2pm check-in, the room assigned to us weren't ready. We booked for two nights. The receptionist, Jennifer had a "I'm too good for this job" attitude and not overly helpful. Our family had to spend 40 minutes killing time after a full day travelling with a ferry crosding from hell. The room we finally got were rundown. The carpet frayed, the door didn't seal properly and a very cold draft came in. The heater in one of the rooms are too complex to figure out. The kitchenette were run down and all the TV's were old. The shower was not great. Water damage to the walls etc. Parking was a major headache. Cafe 169 made a very average eggs benedict with unchewable bacon that might be just a slice of corned beef that was deepfried. The rooms were not cleaned by room service on the second day however it's included in the price.
Not great and would not recommend. In a CoVid economy, places like this will need to step up their game.

Great location, everything in walking distance and the workers at reception were kind but thats about it. We had to keep asking for basic amenities everyday as the rooms were not being serviced. The 1 day we asked for the rooms to be fully serviced the sheets were not changed, bathroom not cleaned (floor not swept) and bin wasn't emptied in the room and the tv wasn't working in 1 of the rooms

Still yet to find a reasonably priced accomodation that has air conditioning in Welly. Very small rooms, no exhaust fan in the bathroom, noisy location, uncomfortable beds and an average breakfast option at the other Mercure around the corner. Better luck next time with another hotel choice hopefully!

Terrible stay. Hotel is old, carpet smells, noisy fan, window seals need replacing- street noise through the night. When I complained my room hadn't been made up after a long day at work, the manager said I could have called housekeeping (they'd finished hours before I did) and he'd take it up with them. Don't ignore the feedback and be more effective with addressing them especially in a covid world. Would definitely recommend staying away from this hotel.

Welllllllll let’s see, very interesting set up. Extremely dirty bathroom - so much hair in the floor drain! Had to request house keeping on a daily basis for necessities like rubbish collection & clean towels (on addressing this with staff they did not care even a little bit). No beds were made or changed over our 3night stay. No dish clothes - unhandy! Super noisy. Worst thing was it’s so dark and dingy you couldn’t even tell what time of day it was, view was to a brick wall appx 2mtrws away - no natural sunlight, false advertising! Only good thing was location

Very disappointed and shocked at how filthy the room was. We checked into Room Number 201. This should have been set up for 4 adults (2 x separate couples) in a 2 bedroom apartment with a harbour view.
Upon entering the room we were astounded that at a time when Covid-19 is still prevalent and hygiene should be at the forefront of everyone's mind we immediately noted the following:
the floor was filthy
the bench top had not been cleaned
the phone was grimy
the walls were dirty with paint peeling
light switches grimy
the cooktop was filthy
the switches to the oven and cooktop were filthy
there weren't any curtain sheers in the 2nd bedroom
insufficient towels (only 2) - set up for 2
no mattress protector on the bed
dust and mould on the walls next to the bed
broken fridge
TV missing from bedroom, holes in the wall
missing towel rail from bathroom
dirty and mouldy carpets
only 2 chairs in dining area
blackout curtains falling off rails
dirty skirting boards by entrance door and mould
mould around windows
no hangers in wardrobe
ceiling and wall panels in the bathroom falling down
We could continue to list many more issues. This room is definitely not fit for purpose and should be condemned and reported to Environmental Health.
We are Accor Members and well travelled. This is the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in and I am sure that if Accor knew of these issues, this accommodation would be shut down.
I have attached a few photos for your information.
The receptionist was amazing and fully understood the issues. She was shown the photos and could not believe how dirty this room has become. She was not able to offer any alternative as the place was full. Fortunately for us we were leaving early the following morning.
The receptionist provided us with a bottle of spray and wipe, a face cloth and tea towel to clean up the worst areas. She also provided us with a double duvet to use as a mattress protector and 2 additional towels.
The car park is too small to fit a large suv, which is what we hired and we were not warned that our car would not fit. We then became stuck and the receptionist tried to assist by getting other guests to move their cars so we could get out of the car park. We then moved our car to Wilson Car Park.

I accept that this a budget priced hotel, although if you need to park the car it will cost you a further $30nz a day (this is clearly indicated when booking so not a surprise)
The room is certainly to a standard I would expect for the price, with large bed, good bathroom, microwave, kettle, toaster and crockery. Good sized wardrobe and dining table. Also has a great range of TV channels, Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube.
What let's it down is what's missing, if you are going to supply crockery and microwave you need to supply some way of washing up and drying stuff.
Also issue with cleanliness of the room. In the bedside drawer I found half a bar of chocolate and 3 face masks. The crockery area of the room was thick with dust and probably not cleaned for weeks.
I appreciate that the hospitality industry, worldwide, is suffer staffing issues, but these are the basics
To finish on a positive note, the staff are so friendly and more importantly cheerful. The onsite self service laundry was also really useful.

We have stayed at this hotel before and really enjoyed it so came back for another break away. Room was OK but in need of a spruce up.
On our second day the country went into COVID level 4 lockdown. We had decided to stick to our flight home which fell within the Govt lockdown return home time frame. We asked at the desk if we could maybe get a late check out at 5pm as our flight did not leave until 7:30pm the next day, but was told it would be $50. Thought that was a bit mean as there was only then five people staying at the time and no one coming in and rooms were not being serviced.
After a walk to the Supermarket we asked another staff member and it went up to $70, then down to $60. In the end he said we could check out at 12 free of charge. That still meant 5hrs sitting in the lobby,
In the meantime I managed to change our shuttle so we could sit at the Airport from 1pm and at least have a better view. Hours later front desk phoned to say we could stay till 5pm for free, told him it was a bit too late and maybe be more helpful during a Covid lockdown situation in the future.
The next whole day we never had any contact from the front desk to see if we were OK or needed water or anything. Not even to say the room will not be serviced or could they leave towels outside the door. They phoned on the last nite to see if we wanted a room service meal, even that was too late we had already eaten.

Responded 28 Aug 2021
Hi Steve, Thank you for providing your feedback about your experience and we are really sorry you felt that way as it is never our intention. The sudden level 4 lockdown has been very stressful for everyone in the country and our team was challenged with a lot of instant decisions making and unexpected volume of guest enquiries with the sudden news. I agree our team did provide you a late checkout fee which we normally provide at a much higher rate while the team was figuring out as well the best measures to take to assist our guests better. Our team did follow up with the manager at the soonest time possible and till we got back to you, we are sorry, it was too late. I had personally given you a call in the evening when the team informed me about your situation and I had offered you a free late check out until the time requested and I do understand you had already made arrangements, which we are sorry for being late amidst all the chaos. With the challenging times faced by businesses across the nation, our team tried our best to assist you in every possible way and it is quite disheartening to know that you felt that we weren’t helpful enough which is never our intention. I am sorry that our team did not contact you the other day. The lockdown has been very challenging for us. With limited staffing, our team had been handling numerous calls and emails as well as enquiries at the desk constantly, from guests who have been impacted by the lockdown. Our guests are our biggest priority and knowing you were safe in our hotel room, our team had to be engaged with our guests who were stuck on the way or who needed assistance to find transportation to go back home. We are an apartment style hotel and do not have a restaurant and as an initiative from us, we were providing room service from our sister hotel to assist our guest as a courtesy. I personally had called you to ask you for room service early evening after we had made our last minute arrangements, however it is challenging for us to know whether you had made the arrangements for food or not too. I really hope once we move back to normality, you would consider to provide another opportunity to serve you and we hope to welcome you back to the hotel. Warm Regards, Nischal Gurung

While the hotel may be a little dated, the warm and impeccable services from the staff more than made up for it. The reception were very helpful and gave us a lot of tips on the places to visit and dine in. The room was clean and spacious. The location was unbeatable as most attractions are within walking distance. The only downside I could think of is the lack of parking facilities. There were only a handful of street side parking available right outside the hotel. Nonetheless, I will still stay here again!

I stayed two night with my little ones 3 & 5 years old. And all mom knows, travelling with two kids are not always easy. Manager Nischal explained me well about some possible safety issues even though that could be minor. He was very thoughtful and explaining me that let kids be careful of edges of table. When I went to restaurant with kids, the restaurant staffs were so kind. I concerned if my kids disturbed other guests too much because they ran around when we go to toilet. Staffs were so understandable and no need to mention the food was so tasty. Menu was perfect for a good breakfast and price was so reasonable too! I would love to stay again. Thank you.

We had a one bedroom unit but the door to our balcony was locked and it was covered in pigeon poo. I would check with the hotel if yours is accessible. Cheers Steve
We found and booked the apartment through general booking site (not through Accor). What we found and booked for was what we got so we were happy with accomodation.
Hi Tessa Lee, we stayed in a one bedder - great view. Like mousey84 we got free Wi-Fi as Accor members, but we didn't have a car so can't help re parking.
Dear Angie,
WIFI is free for Accor Le Club Members. Available at a cost with various plans for non members, starting from $10 for 1GB data.

Saurabh
