Reviews summary

Powered by AI
The Copthorne Hotel Wellington Oriental Bay is frequently commended for its pristine cleanliness and efficient housekeeping, though a few guests experienced minor issues. While some travelers find the hotel to offer good value with reasonable pricing, others are less impressed due to extra charges and sometimes obstructed views. Its stellar location near the bay and town center is a highlight, providing guests with easy access to attractions.
Room opinions are mixed, as guests enjoy the cleanliness and views, but some find the amenities lacking and the decor outdated. The service is generally regarded as friendly, but not without occasional lapses.

Detailed Reviews
We arrived at the hotel on a miserable wet and windy evening but the welcome was lovely as we have come to expect in New Zealand. The route to our room was a little unexpected as you had to get a lift to the 7th floor then walk across to the other side of the building to get another lift up to the 10th floor. The room was lovely with a great view of the harbour as booked, what I was very disappointed in was the location of the room behind the lift shaft. Why do hotels do it?! Whenever the lift was used we were aware of it and a particularly busy time was from 6am which was not conducive to a peaceful lie in. We ate in the restaurant the first evening and had a very nice meal so decided to have our breakfast there the next morning. what a mistake. We went for breakfast at about 8.30am and although there was a good selection of cereals and fruits with yoghurt the cooked selection was truely appauling. Eggs were cooked to order which would have been the best bet if you liked eggs but the rest of the selection looked as if it had been sitting around for hours. the bacon was so crispy it was impossible to cut and eat. Speciality coffees were also extra. Needless to say we had our breakfast else where the next day. One more point, please be aware that if you purchase any extras at the hotel with a credit card they charge an extra 2% on top, something that has been banded in the UK.

Dear jillycb, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am happy you enjoyed your room and our restaurant. I am very sorry about your experience with our lift and the bacon at breakfast. Please let me know next time you need a room, I will make sure you are away from the elevator. Regards, Kenny Vo Guest Relations Manager

As someone living in Melbourne burbs, I truly enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The location can’t be beaten - I wake up early every day and walked for half hour along the bay which set me in a great frame of mind for the day ahead at work. There are heaps of cafe, bars, restaurants and take away food within walking distance from the hotel. A supermarket less than 500m away is a bonus.
I stayed on the 8th floor and all rooms have a waterfront view. The rooms are clean and well presented with quality fittings. I am impressed with the selection of TV channels- not that I stayed indoors a lot but I thought to mention as an added plus.
This is the second time I stayed in this hotel for business and pricing is very competitive against bigger hotel chains.

Service was helpful and efficient. Great valet service.
Rooms are spacious and very clean. They had everything you could possibly need e.g. iron and board, mini bar, fan and safe. We paid for a room with a harbour view which was lovely. The bed was very comfortable and a good size.
The location of the hotel is fantastic. Right in Oriental Bay. Close to the Te Papa museum and other sights. We would stay here again.
Negatives..... the lighting in the room was bizarre. The reading light was blinding and shone right down on your face. Despite leaving an eco sign on the door and hanging up our towels they were changed when it wasn’t necessary.

The copthorne was recommended to us for its location and we weren't disappointed! Communication was excellent confirming our bags could be stored before and after check in/out. The room was huge with fabulous views. We were in floor 4. The lift was quick without any waiting. The room had blackout curtains and we didn't hear street noise. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. A firm bed with lovely linen. Very clean. The location is perfect near to a supermarket and the waterfront, Cuba st, the Beehive, gazillions of eateries, Te Papa - all within easy walking distance. Ten minute shuttle ride to the airport with little traffic. Didn't try the restaurant but wandered around the corner to Ohtel for a fantastic breakfast. We would stay again.

Room was clean and spacious - the only downside was that this particular room was located at a second building at the back and I was unable to get a lovely view of the harbour (although I had booked a harbour view room) as the view was partially obstructed by the main building in front. A shame for an avid photographer who was hoping to capture some waterfront photos from a high vantage point.
In order to access this room, I had to take a lift to the 7th floor from the main building, walk through a foyer and take another lift up to the 10th floor. Not a major issue for me as I am able bodied.
Room had the basic amenities like toiletries, note pad, pen, coffee/tea making facilities, mini fridge (no mini bar) and hairdryer (which I was grateful for). There was a room service menu at the desk and all room facilities like lights, shower pressure, power points were in working order.
Furniture and fixtures like the wooden cabinets and arm chair looked a bit worn out but the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Housekeeping staff cleaned up the room and replenished the toiletries.
Front office staff were very friendly and helpful. One staff was supposed to book me a taxi a few hours in advance for my dinner venue but he had forgotten and luckily, another staff managed to call a cab for me immediately when she realised that this was not done and I managed to arrive at my dinner venue early.
I had arrived 4 hours early before check-in and was allowed to store my luggage at the conceriege area. My room was ready before the check-in time and I was given a call to inform me about this.
Will I stay here again? Yes for the location and the cleanliness but I hope to get a room with a better view the next time round. And would definitely want to check out the hotel restaurant the next time round as I was unable to do so during this trip due to time constraints.

This is a very nice hotel in a great area of Wellington on Oriental Bay.
Check in was very quick and friendly. We self parked and managed to get a space behind the hotel. They also have separate parking across the road if you cannot get a space on-site.
Rooms were very spacious, clean and had everything you need for an overnight stay. Our room was on the 2nd floor racing the harbour. We had a lovely little juliet balcony which was lovely to stand on in the evening. Our room had a double bed with a separate area near to the door with two single beds for the kids.
We also had room service as the restaurant was fully booked (although when we walked up the restaurant, it was almost empty). Food was good though. Breakfast was also good and not overly priced.
The hotel is also very close to the beach, play parks, Courtenay Place for bars and restaurants. You also have a NewWorld around the corner.
I would definitely stay here again, we had a lovely time.

Booked two months prior to our stay direct with the hotel and requested twin beds for our 2 night stay , phoned reception 7 days prior to our arrival to confirm booking and again requested twin beds yes it was in the system was the front desk reply , phoned a day before our check in again yes all taken care of , we arrive on the 25/01/20 go up to the 10th floor what do we get a double , back down to reception , they moved us to another floor where the view was sub par to what we had booked as the Wellington Harbour swim was on that weekend & being a 5 minute walk away the hotel was full . really how can you get some-think so simple wrong .
Also can you get the porter to stop chewing gum when he's talking to guests or taking their bags to their room , NOT a good look for your brand which promotes itself as a 4.5 star hotel
The rooms , hallways and public areas need a paint job rather then then 80's look of the tired cream colour
The beds were the best we have ever slept in

We spent two night at the Copthorne in Oriental Bay in Wellington. We had a Superior Harbour View Room and it is well worth paying slightly more for such a great view. The rooms are lovely, clean and a good size for a couple - you don't feel cramped, tons of room to move around. The staff at reception and the housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. An easy walk down to the small beach for a swim, or into town to shop or find something to eat. Very close to a supermarket that has a great variety of food if you wanted to grab something for dinner/lunch or need supplies.
