Lou is an amazing host of an awesome b+b. The place is an amazing house with an indoor pool as it’s centrepiece, beautifully clean, quiet rooms and a nice comfortable feel. The location overlooks Wellington harbour and is relatively easy to access and close to the ferry but high enough to be away from the noise

This small B&B really is excellent. My wife and I have now stayed here three times, and each time, the owners have been welcoming and have had a great eye for detail and gone that extra mile to make our stay special. The views are stunning, and we really must remember to bring our swimsuits next time so we can try out the pool!

I cannot say enough good things about Harbour Lodge. The rooms are beautiful with wonderful views, the pool was perfectly heated and a good size, the communal lounge with balcony and view over the harbour lovely to be in and the owners the nicest and most obliging people you could ever wish to meet. This one of the best places I have ever stayed in locally or overseas.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter which room you choose as all have views of harbour or bush.

Stayed here during Rugby World Cup depsite their 60% increase in price during this busy period, as we really liked the look of it on website. Very disappointing, very different to their photos. Couldn't use pool, it was mouldy, room not cleaned properly, just about had view of harbour past air conditioning unit, but we did have very good view into other guest room from shared balcony and they into ours. That wasn't mentioned in the description! We could hear guests talking in nearby rooms. Breakfast was poor, communal areas untidy and worn. It's advertised as luxury, it may have been once, but it's not now. So disappointing. We didn't stay as long as we'd planned, couldn't wait to leave and can't recommend it.

Response from Chris B, Manager at Harbour Lodge Wellington
Responded 13 Jan 2013
These guests arrived on our busiest weekend of the year, having booked a long time in advance and paid a non-refundable deposit. Before they came to us they were offered free accommodation by a friend. Their criticisms are aimed at getting out of their booking and we deny their criticisms. These guests standout in the last 6 years we have operated the business. We have hundreds of lovely comments in our guest book and by email, and we are often firm friends with our guests by the time they leave and many have kept in touch.

More of a non-review. Despite being booked 7 months in advance, on arrival no-one was at the premises, we were greeted by just a note. When we returned 2 hours later the rooms were not ready, and the place was not as welcoming as we have come to expect from Kiwis. Outstanding views, but not run as a business in my view.
We did not stay. Other places which treat customers better deserved our cash.

We stayed here during a recent tour of NZ and were very pleased with both the accommodation and our hosts. The property is in a fantastic position overlooking Wellington harbour and our room was very clean and comfortable with lovely bedding and a very nice bathroom. Lou and Chris (owners) were very welcoming and gave us some really good tips which helped us get the most out of our short stay in Wellington. The Bistro they suggested was excellent and reasonably priced. The breakfast Lou served was lovely and very fresh. Both Lou and Chris chatted and gave us an interesting insight into life in Wellington and made our stay more interesting. When we come back to Wellington we will definitely want to stay at the Harbour Lodge again.

We only here for two nights prior to catching ferry (terminal very close), but would consider staying here even if not taking ferry. The location has great views of the harbour and the rooms extremely comfortable. Nice (shared) living room, which we enjoyed to ourselves; clearly this is not guaranteed! Breakfast fine. Some may find the steep driveway to park a little daunting, but there are options around this. Hosts very nice and friendly. We had two adjacent rooms (have a 6 year old daughter); very convenient (although we could have all fitted into one room - they are good-sized).

Truly outstanding venue. The beautiful views, the sheep farm and herding demonstration are not to be missed. The family and staff who were are host were fantastic. Also the drive along Wellington Harbour to get to the Lodge was breathtaking.

We spent 5 nights at Harbour Lodge and it was just great ! Lou and Chris were so welcoming and friendly - they kindly got us takeaway on our first night and it was great to spend time to get to know them at Breakfast. It was a busy time as it was the Lions rugby weekend but we always felt at home and relaxed. The views are wonderful and the lodge is an amazing place to visit . Thank you !

What a find... 4 nights at this great B&B. 4 letting rooms. Our room had partial view of Wellington harbour, v comfy, big bed, well equipped, nice and warm. Powerful shower, heated bathroom and bedroom. Fab continental breakfast. Use of big guest lounge overlooking harbour, pool (in summer) and hot tub (all year). Free parking. Lou and Chris made us feel very welcome and couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Very short, hilly, easy drive into city. Tricky to find, so do ask the owners for directions. Highly recommended.
