Great location in town and great view of main street from fairly spacious room.
Bed & pillows very comfortable. Could do with a couple of hooks in the bathroom,
Booked 5 rooms in October for a stay in March....expecting to pay a deposit. They took full payment immediately and declared no cancellation refund.
AS it turned out ...when Coronavirus struck we had to cancel 2 rooms for 1 night and they DID give us a refund.
They were very conscientious in cleaning public spaces, handles, lift buttons etc due to virus pandemic.

We did not realise an internal facing room had no windows at all. Our first room while stylish was like a bat cave. We returned to reception and fortunately we were able to upgrade to a room with windows at extra cost after being reminded we had actually chosen such a room on booking...made me feel like a naughty schoolgirl. This was meant to be a wonderful 70th birthday treat for my partner but really it was pretty average and not value for money. Parking was interesting-expensive at $35 a night plus another $35 to leave it there during the day for a few hours before we returned home. Better for small cars as space is tight and get instructions on how to find the parking space as there is nowhere easy to stop outside this hotel. Our second room did have windows but was also a disability unit not disclosed to us. Unusual shaped room with bedspace around a couple of corners. Big bed but too firm for our liking. Windows only for show- appeared to have been painted shut. Shower curtain needs urgent replacement- a white curtain covered in both what looked like someone else’s hair dye and also mould. No tissues in bathroom so toilet paper sufficed. Will not be recommending this as a good option to others.

So the hotel itself and the room I had were great. Considering the location, most of the street noise was fairly mute, much to the credit of Oaks Wellington.

Room was tidy and clean, and the views of the other buildings and apartment blocks were ok. I wasn’t really there for views though.

The gym is average but needs a water cooler or fountain. Also given the current sanitation demands due to Covid it would make sense to provide cleaning products in the gym and extra towels so that people could wipe down equipment. All there is however is a bottle of hand sanitiser.

The carpark is terrible. Fit for motorcycles only and the rudest part is being charged to try and navigate the mouse maze that is their carpark. I got blocked in once because a SUV parked in a spot reserved for small cars only across from me and the 2nd night there were only 2 car parks remaining both that would’ve required an engineering degree to try and manoeuvre the car into. Staff were pretty helpful on both occasions but that positive aspect is negated by the trauma of trying to traverse the up and down ramps of the carpark.

The worst part is that it appears that the Oaks Wellington attracts young people to book rooms on the weekend to pre-load before heading to the nearby clubs. What a fantastic idea, I would’ve done the same at some point in my life. Surely though staff could work out the party revellers from the other guests and put them on separate floors?

With a 5.30am wake up on Sunday morning due, I had to call reception twice about the party happening in the room across the hall from me - which sounded like at least half a dozen people at around 10.30pm. Once I actually went and told the guests of that room myself to shut up. Now it did go quiet ... until about 3.30am when people started arriving back!

Not impressed.

I stay in a lot of hotels for work ... and while aesthetically Oaks is great, location wise fantastic - the other aspects of my experience were a huge let down.

I am very sorry about the party room you experienced during your stay, we actually have a strict policy on this to not occur in the property so I will definitely be following up further that particular night. I have tried to reach out to you and definitely let me know if you are able to come back so I can look after you. Cheers Jamie

We have come to the hotel for a 7 night stay. This is our fourth night and it’s been really disappointing.

First, we got to the Hotel at 8am, check-in time is at 2.pm and that is totally fine, so we went out for two hours and then waited in the reception. The receptionist could have offered us an early check-in or given us some advice on what to do in the city but this didn’t happen. I work in a Hotel at the front desk and customer service is really crucial for guests to have a good experience at a hotel. We felt that there’s no costumer service at all and were not even given a smile which is the basics for a Hotel receptionist. Anyway, we came to the reception again around 1:40pm and we could get our room, but the other receptionist that checked us in was really cold, didn’t even smile and did not explain anything about the hotel services, breakfast, restaurant, wifi, facilities... this same receptionist seems to have a problem with us, because she won’t respond when we say good morning and doesn’t even make eye contact with me and my girlfriend.

A further example of customer service lacking here is that We asked for new towels and toilet paper yesterday afternoon. We were still in the room resting so we didn’t want to get a full room service, we just needed new towels and toilet paper. Anyway these items did not arrive. This morning we woke up and my girlfriend called about getting new towels and toilet paper again. The receptionist said that it would be arranged. Over forty minutes pass and my girlfriend calls again. Once again we are told they will come soon and thirty minutes pass with no towels or toilet paper delivered. I decide to call and the receptionist apologises and says they will do it immediately. This receptionist came personally to the room to deliver the items which I appreciate after waiting for over an hour. And then five minutes later someone from house keeping came to give us items after we already got them. Clearly the hotel is disorganised.

Room is okay, nothing special, a bit overpriced... The internet connection was not working with the smartTV, so we couldn’t access Netflix or use our personal devices that require internet access.

Furthermore, the location is good as it’s central but it’s also a sort of valley area that is a little delapidated.
When we were checking in these two people (not guests) came in and sat down and started swearing at the reception and at people in general. They then made their way to the elevator and probably to the restaurant floor. There was no security to come and escort them from the hotel.

Now for some positives... When we went to the restaurant to collect plates the lady working was friendly and smiled at us, same as the housekeeping lady on our floor. Also the shower is really spacious and nice which is a positive.

The building is very well located in the middle of the city.

The front desk staff are very friendly.

The hotel design is functional and basic. It feels like a new global budget brand hotel/motel. The lobby area is clinical just like the bar and restaurant.

Unfortunately the hotel corridor was not clean and needed a good vacuum.

The room is a good size perhaps because I was assigned a wheel chair accessible room even though I do not need a wheelchair.

There is a decent TV although placed wonky with wires hanging from the bottom.

Unfortunately the Netflix option does not work and according to front desk that is the case throughout the hotel ‘because it is new’.

Similarly there seems to be the same issue with internet which is slower than 4G so don’t count on doing much work if you need internet access.

I would have ordered room service but there are only 3 options on the ripped piece of A4 menu left on the tiny table in the corner of the room.

The bathroom is reminiscent of a hospital bathroom - tiny sink, nowhere to leave a wash bag, cheap shower curtain, bright white light and a door which when closed still leaves nothing to the imagination of any other guest in the room.

The room has an open motel style wardrobe with an empty fridge.

The hotel tries to justify the 4 star plus rates that is charges with touches like a nice coffee machine, bath robes and an alarm clock (though I suggest you train housekeeping to correct the time)... but for me I am sorry to say that this is not enough to recommend it or return.

Hi Green_RJ, thank you for your feedback and apologies that you received an accessible Executive Room in your room allocations which impacted some of your stay. I will also be following up on the feedback you also mentioned which is not acceptable such as the state of the menu in your room so thank you for letting me know so I can address further. We would love to see you again and I have tried to reach out to you directly so hopefully can connect and I can have you return into a non-accessible room for a future stay. Cheers Jamie

The hotel is located in an excellent location, almost everything in Wellington CBD is within walking distance.

We stayed in room #514 a room on the backside of the hotel which has no roads or laneways immediately behind the hotel which means the room was fairly well soundproofed from external noise despite only being single glazed, it’s a shame the same can’t be said about internal noise. Sound proofing between rooms could be better (in the case of inconsiderate guests next door), if you have such neighbours, you can easily hear music and feel the bass from the room next door, the hotel staff were responsive to making such guests quieten down. If you have considerate guests in the room next door you will be pleasantly surprised how quite the hotel is given its CBD location when people aren’t letting their room doors slam shut (a typical hotel issue).

The views from our 5th floor room were fairly reasonable with no tall buildings close to the hotel, at night time there was surprisingly little neon signage to add colour to the night time view.

If your neighbouring guests are considerate, you should get a good night’s sleep on the very comfortable bed.

We booked our room directly via the hotel's website 11 months ahead of our visit and were looking forward to utilising the 10% advertised discount if the rewards program was joined within 24 hours of making the booking, (we did this within minutes of making the booking). We were disappointed that this wasn't honoured at the time of paying on arrival, nor when we latter wrote to the hotel to follow this up. With the benefit of hindsight we should have cancelled our booking, joined the rewards program and rebooked saving us $70 in the process!

Oaks Wellington is one of the most superior hotels in the area. It is centrally located and close to all bars/shops, being a short 2 minute walk to Cuba. The staff are very friendly and helpful and stored our bags even after we checked out! The room was stunning with a beautiful backlit mirror and a shower that doesn’t have the typical low pressure most hotels do. The room was clean and serviced every day with fresh towels. The best thing about this room however is that it has its own air conditioner which you can alter! Perfect for hot days. Thanks again to Oaks staff for making our trip fantastic.

Amenities were new and modern however the staff let this place down - didn’t clean our room, had to ask for fresh towels and toilet paper, ate breakfast in the restaurant, attempted to use the bathroom on that floor - disgusting!! Went to reception tried to use that toilet also disgusting! Reception staff clueless and all over the place...we tried calling reception from our room phone multiple times - no answer, tried calling their main line, no answer...actually never stayed in a hotel before where the staff were so lacking in customer service, logic, or even just common sense

I really enjoyed my stay here, the room was spacious, clean and overall the hotel is in a fantastic location. Found the door of the bathroom a bit strange as it was a bit see through and didn't close properly. Check in and check out were a bit disappointing, I arrived just before 3pm to the hotel staff telling me my room wasn't ready yet and I would have to wait. I waited for 20mins which was a bit of a let down given I arrived after check in time. The morning I was leaving I was disturbed to housekeeping knocking on my door at 9.15am asking when I was checking out as they wanted to clean the room... not very impressed and have never experienced such a thing before? Overall, aside from the check in and check out issues I was very impressed with the room, view and location. Very comfy bed and nice linen and towels.
