The correct address is 18A Hay Street, and, yes, there is a home nearby with only 18 Hay on it! But you will recognize this terrific B&B by its unique, large arched window facing the bay. Totally worth the steep, narrow drive to their garage, the walk back to Wellington is easy and quick. Owners Bev and Warren Charlton are gracious and fun-loving. He, the architect of this home, and she, the interior decorator, have created a masterpiece and you get to stay in it! Our room, the Versace, included a chandelier over the bed, a well-stocked kitchenette and an Italian bathroom with heated floor, plus a romantic surprise just outside your window! Breakfast was sumptuous and available in our room whenever we wanted it. Bev even washed our laundry while we breezed through windy Wellington. Get Warren to tell you about some "Avatar" staff staying with them during the filming of the movie!

Following a long journey from Lake Taupo to Wellington, short journey to Oriental Bay and a short climb to a wonderful location. The welcome was warm and cheerful but the building and location surpassed all expectation. To call this a 'bed and breakfast' is to describe Champagne - a fizzy drink. Our hosts (Beverley and Warren) are rightly proud of this wonderful home with extended accomodation for 2 guest groups. The room was luxurious and beautifully decorated, every thought had been put into making our stay so relaxing and warm.
You are treated better than guests and much more like family friends. The best is yet to come as you are made welcome at the breakfast table together with outher guests and their family. Relaxing and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and the breakfast is substantial and as good as it gets.
The views from every panorama window are breathtaking, looking out over Wellington harbour. We were taken to the morning ferry as if it was always part of the service.
We would like to return soon and this is definitely on our top places to return. Thank you Beverley and Warren, you have such a wonderful family and a beautiful home.
We will keep such memories until our return.

This b & b is on the hill above Wellington's very smart Oriental Bay suburb, just a short drive from the interisland ferry terminal. It is in one of the world's great locations with magnificent views over Wellington harbour through the plate glass windows and from the terrace of the breakfast room. Bev and Warren are excellent hosts who welcomed us into their home as if they had known us for years and immediately gave us advice on the area and its nearby restaurants. Thanks to their own input, the house, which is in a quiet location, is very well designed to take advantage of its position and it is sumptuously decorated and furnished. The two ensuite bedrooms, which are individually themed, each have a small kitchenette with fridge and microwave. There are free laundry facilities for guests to use. Whilst Bev cooked an excellent full breakfast she and Warren kept us entertained with their conversation and tales of their travels around the world. We stayed only two nights in this great value boutique b & b with exceptional hosts who couldn't do enough for us and wish that we had been able to stay longer.

This is the beautiful home of Warren and Bev and just exquisite. The views and location were perfect and we could not have asked for better hosts. Our room was beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable.
Bev prepared the most sumptuous breakfast for us which we ate with stunning views overlooking the Harbour and under the watchful eye of the resident seagull; plip-plop!
Their home is amazing, but you need to visit yourselves to fully appreciate it!
Thank you both for a wonderful stay.

We stayed for 2 nights with another couple all in our 60s. Wellington is built on hills and this B&B is in the most expensive part of Wellington. The view from the eating area was superb. Bev and Warren were very good hosts. You feel like you are with friends. The rooms were beautifully decorated as Bev has an eye for decorating. They have a zebra skin in their living room. Bev cooked a wonderful breakfast and Warren kept us amused with all his tales. The only drawback is getting up with a car and we had a van. There was adequate parking for us even with the van. We'd stay here again.

Bev and Warren are amazing hosts. They know the city inside and out including most of the people who live there. This couple is gracious, funny and have a very relaxed attitude while running a beautiful home catering to your needs. The views from the dining room are phenomenal. What a perfect place to have breakfast served to you by Bev. Great location, comfortable room, good food...what more do you want?

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in February at the end of our New Zealand holiday just so we could see Wellington which is a fantastic, vibrant city. We had toured the South Island staying in out of the way places all excellent and I was hoping that Oriental Bay our last stay would not disappoint. But I needn't have worried....Bev and Warren's beautiful home has too be seen to be believed!
It is an architectural wonder of glass and marble with two wonderful hosts who have the knack of making you feel like family two minutes after you've met. This is defitely NOT your run of the mill B & B. Until you've sat having breakfast (and what a breakfast) overlooking Wellington harbour out of the largest plate glass window in existence, you haven't lived.
When you arrive Warren will sit you down with a map and explain the city in detail and how best to get about. It's quite straightforward and the Te Papa museum should not be missed even if you can only spare a couple of hours like us.
Our time there was a fitting end to our holiday and Warren even was kind enough to take us to the ferry terminal early on our last morning to catch the ferry back to Picton.....thanks again Warren. Bev also let us use her computer so we could check in our flights on line as we didn't have any gadgets with us...nothing was too much trouble.
Certainly this is a five star establishment befitting a five star city and if we are lucky enough ever to find ourselves back in NZ exploring the North Island then I know where we'll staying......with Warren and Bev!
Thanks again guys...Sharon and Peter

From Oriental Parade, a drive up the steep hill of Hay Street plus a hairpin to access 18A is rewarded by a panoramic view over Wellington Bay and harbour. The view is further intensified from the dining kitchen area and balcony. With a view like this a television is superfluous.

Our friendly hosts, Bev and Warren are patrons of the local arts society and this is evident wherever you look around their modern, beautifully decorated home. Of all the places we visited on our travels this had to be the smartest and our room was comprehensively equipped.

The bathroom, with heated floor, had all toiletries supplied and towels are changed daily. The neat kitchen area, which could be closed off, had fresh coffee and biscuits, also a bowl of fruit is thoughtfully provided.

Both Bev and Warren love talking and are happy to provide useful information on places to visit. Bev will not be satisfied until you are no longer able to eat any more of her delicious breakfasts. A useful addition is that Bev will let you freshen up your clothes in the washing machine and tumble dryer.

Free wi-fi is available and they accept EFTPOS and credit cards.

We stayed there on two occasions and would highly recommend it as a base when visiting Wellington. We note that it is only rated 15th of 51 B&Bs in Wellington on Tripadvisor. In view of our comments above and as extensive travellers, we would seriously question its comparatively low standing, as all reviewers have, without exception, rated it as excellent.

Stunning views & very friendly welcome from Bev & Warren to their home. They very kindly drove us into Wellington on our first day, and also took us to the ferry terminal when we left - much appreciated! Comfortable bed, excellent shower and large bedroom. There is also a useful microwave and fridge in the room, although did need them with super breakfast and excellent Wellington restaurants. Would definitely return to this B&B if in Wellington again.
Dragonfly restaurant excellent, as we're Te Papa museum & Botanic Gardens (both free). Old St Paul's church well worth a visit.
