Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Rydges Wellington Airport is often lauded for its friendly service, though a few guests have encountered slower service and staff attitudes that left something to be desired. Its prime location near the airport makes it a favorite for those with early flights or business travelers looking to avoid taxi rides.
While the hotel's rooms are praised for their style, spaciousness, and cleanliness, some guests mention that soundproofing could be improved and the rooms may feel a bit cramped. The hotel's restaurant has received mixed reviews, with some calling it overpriced and pointing out limited late-night dining options.

Detailed Reviews
Where do I start. Arriving into Wellington airport at midnight it was so handy to collect your bag, go up the escalator, turn left and walk down carpet runner to reception. Very friendly welcome, quick check-in, perfect! Up lift to clean spacious room with most beautiful comfortable king sized bed, lovely linens. Can't open windows which freaks me out but air conditioning easy to operate to cool room down to my personal comfort level. We just had a standard room but it felt luxurious. A bonus is when you need to check out for a 6am flight departure, go down to check-in, get that all done, collect your boarding pass, then go back upstairs for your hotel breakfast, all you want to eat for the $25 offer we accepted. Will be using this hotel again later in year when we return. Reasonable price too.

We took a punt staying at this hotel as we weren’t sure about convenience, given it’s at the airport. We will definitely be back.
Location was no problem as the airport is only 15 - 20 mins from CBD and airport buses run every 20 mins and are very quick. Also free car parking is available for hotel guests.
Rooms were spotless and had all required fittings. Bed was comfortable and there is a range of pillows to choose from.
Great shower pressure and both waterfall and spray shower heads.
Staff were very helpful and attentive.
Restaurant on site provided a full cooked breakfast which was excellent and reasonably priced. Chef was available to make eggs etc to order. We didn’t eat there during lunch or dinner. The decor in the hotel is lovely with several impressive pieces of art work to enjoy.
Great views of the runway and planes departing and arriving and general airport tarmac business from rooms and the restaurant. The whole place is double glazed so VERY quiet.
I absolutely recommend this hotel, even if you’re not flying.

The Rydges Airport hotel was some what okay. On arrival I was greeted by the GSA who was distracted on her phone which she was charging at her desk, when she finally noticed me I got a dull and very unenthusiastic check in. When asking where the lifts were to the room she didn’t bother to look up and point, I just got an “over there”, took another three attempts of asking to finally have them point out as they’re not in view of the front desk. On arrival to the room I had someone painting the door, which wasn’t an issue they were almost finished. The room was fabulous, housekeeping done a fantastic job as well on the service the following day. On the morning of my first stay there was a horrible, very loud, drilling sound in the room next to mine which last over 30 minutes around 8:30am. Very unpleasant. They had airport trolleys located in the reception area which made check out easier as I had multiple bags. Checkout was smooth and the access to the airport terminal was a simple, taking a lift to the ground floor.

Hi Caitlin thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I apologise for your recent experience with us, the team and I have obviously let you down on this occasion and after speaking with the staff there are some areas we need to work on to ensure this doesn't occur in the future. We work very closely with the Airport to ensure the construction noise is not an issue and generally its very good. I do hope we get the opportunity to have you back in the future.

We had a beautiful room facing the sea, which was quiet despite being near the runway of the airport. I personally prefer to be able to open windows, but the air conditioning was very quickly responsive to our needs
The food was excellent and the staff coped well with our granddaughter in her high chair at the dinner table. Staff were very helpful at helping bring in the huge quantitities of luggage that a baby requires. Being New Zealand there was no tipping for all this extra help
The external colour scheme is not one I would have chosen and the signposting to the hotel from outside is a bit hit and miss.
Breakfast was excellent, with the chef insisting on doing eggs freshly - rare in these days of rubber scrambled egg. Lovely hash browns too

We decided to stay at Rydges Hotel for the night as we were flying out to Bali early next day for a family holiday.
I booked way in advance & asked for a room with queen bed + a single bed/sofa bed for our 11 yr old daughter.
When we arrived they were not ready for us although we arrived way after check in at 2pm. We arrived 7pm.
Eventually we were given our room key & when we got there, there was no single bed for our daughter. We phoned reception who arrived at our door to check that there was no bed in our room, then after 20 mins after going off to sort this out, they moved us to another room where house keeping was on there way there, to make up the single bed!
Our bed we found rock hard & the pillows like Bricks.worst sleep Ever!
The shower in the bathroom was very poorly designed. After a shower the water came out of the door & flooded the bathroom making the floor Extreamly slippery & dangerous. Elderly people would Definately slip on this floor. there was No anti slip mats in the bathroom at all, which seriously needs to be considered 100%!
Not cheap to stay at this hotel & not that comfortable..
Wont stay here again. Sorry. Out of 10 i rate this hotel 5....

Hi Hazel, thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback from your recent stay. I'm sorry your room and amenities were not oraganised prior to your arrival with us this is disappointing. In relation to the pillows we have thinner pillows available upon request. I will take your feedback onboard and chat to my team about solutions moving forward, again thankyou and I hope you and your family had a wonderful trip to Bali.

nice modern quiet hotel, perfect when you have an early morning flight, you can drop off the hire car the night before (after having dinner in town) and then in the morning simply go down the escalator from the hotel directly into the international terminal. Easily the best place to stay in Wellington when you have an early morning flight. I stayed before all the restaurants were open so I can't comment on the food options.

First stay here and very impressed with the hotel and staff. I found it much cleaner and endlessly more pleasant than the one in the city. The room had a really great view of the sea and the runway with all the plane action - whilst being super well noise insulated with barely any noise coming in. The room, although compact, was well designed to maximize the space and the bathroom didn't wasted space on a bath which rarely gets used, but had a great power shower with overhead rain drencher as well. Still could do with ditching the single use toiletries to be a bit more eco friendly however, please consider doing this!

We decided rather than fighting rush hour traffic in from the Hutt Valley on Thursday morning to get to our flight to Dunedin, we would treat ourselves to a night in the new Rydges Hotel at Wellington Airport. This turned out to be a great idea!
With both our workplaces in town we had a short taxi ride to the airport. The welcome at the hotel was friendly and informative. Our room was beautifully comfortable and incredibly quiet. I was able to indulge my enjoyment of watching planes land and take off, without being able to hear them - at all!
As the weather was particularly unpleasant it was also great to not have to leave the airport complex again, except via the airbridge to the plane. All our dining needs were well catered for, both for dinner and breakfast and we had a great night's sleep in a super comfortable and huge bed.
We thoroughly recommend including this as part of your trip, either leaving early or arriving late. We were able to check bags and go back to the hotel for breakfast!
A friendly team of people and well appointed new hotel was a recipe for success for us.

We stayed here for 2 nights, arrived late into Wellington, and couldn’t be bothered driving into the city, and paying more for a room.
This hotel is as good as any in the city, probably better than most, it’s only a year or so old, and it only a 10 minute drive into the city centre.
It’s built on top of the terminal building, brilliant if your flying in or out, early or late, the lift takes you straight into the terminal terminal building.
Staff are brilliant, friendly and helpful, nothing is to much trouble for them.
The public areas are large, bright and comfortable, the bedrooms are again, large, modern and well fitted out, great en suites, comfortable beds, so a good nights sleep.
If your arriving by car, just follow the signs to the hotel, it does send you around the airport, but gets you there eventually.
If you want a view of the Ocean, you need to ask for South facing rooms, the higher floor the better, great views of the aircraft landing etc, and an ocean view.

No vehicle needed to reach the hotel. You don't need to go out of the airport terminal building at all to reach the hotel as there is an internal access between two buildings. You don't get wet even if it is raining outside. It is sign posted well, so just follow the sign saying Rydges then you will be there.
There's an offer on that parking will be validated until December 2020, I'd check directly with hotel if staying after this time though
I used my debit card to pay for my last two visits. They hold the room rate and an extra $50. They refund the hold on check out.
