Was our second stay here in a sweet twin room. The room was great, the other guests were very friendly but not the usual guests you'd expect in a backpackers, locals?? The rough looking guy slouching on the sofa when we arrived told us he was staff but didn't even get up when we arrived , just pointed to where our keys were. There were already used towels on the floor in the communal bathroom, and in the morning all the bathmats were wet and more used towels lying around. Every sink in the kitchen had dirty dishes in it. One loo (lid up) had been left unflushed full of paper and worse. Stunk out the bathroom
Arthouse Accommodation is such a lovely place at such a good price. The staff are so friendly and can hold conversations so if you like banter this place is ideal for you. There is communal showers and toilets which are tidy, great shower pressure may I add! There is board games and books in the dining room for everyone to use, A tv in the lounge room with multiple channels that cater to different languages and a little mini mart in the reception to buy snacks and toiletries from. Thank you Arthouse for making me feel at home I will 100% be back!
Stayed here with 8 friends and had an excellent time! Staff were super friendly and accomodating - moving an extra mattress into our dorm to allow us to all stay together, and letting us check out a little later than usual. Beds were super comfy and dorm was very clean, bathrooms were also very tidy. Snacks available for sale and location convenient to the CBD and water front. All round excellent. Would return.
Quiet backpackers, plus no sign of the drugs and/or alcohol which some reviewers seemed to find. Kitchen was well stocked with plenty of tables and chairs. Eventful check-in was dealt with well. Fell in love with the Canadian on front desk... it wasn't hard.
I stayed at Tauranga for 2 nights. As soon as I entered the facility, there was a group of people at the counter and not one greeted me, including the staff member. I actually had to be the one who made myself known to the group. Then, the guy proceeded to tell me about the hostel but with an attitude. I truly felt like I was being judged because I didn’t speak the language he was communicating with the others. It’s like, he was the Mean Girl of the hostel and he wanted to assure you that he was. Back home, I work in customer service and I knew that I wasn’t going to be staying there another night. Whilst he continued to show me around (which mind you, he didn’t even recommend things to do), I noticed that nobody spoke to you. This hostel is full of long term stays where they’ve all built close bonds with each other, this also includes their staff as well and they do not like people who are temporarily there for a night or two. A bit silly if you ask me. I came to this hostel wanting to make friends and ended up leaving Tauranga early because of the terrible atmosphere. Solo travellers, do NOT stay here. I would recommend it to people who are staying for more than one night or have friends to stay with.…
