Detailed Reviews
Stayed 2 nights. This is an older property and is reflected in furnishings and fittings. Property clean and functional with a good but noisy pool area. Convenient for dual carriageway road into town. Nothing to complain about. Functional is best way to describe this property.

We had two rooms and one was better than the other. Our bedroom did not have air conditioning so did not have a great night's sleep. The other unit the family Tustayed in did. I found the hosts to be super friendly. The place was lovely and clean. Great laundry and would recommend. If interested in going into Tauranga for a drink, then you should get change out of 20 dollars.

We stayed over the week of Xmas, room was clean, very comfortable & quiet. Yay they looked after staff & gave cleaners xmas day off. Pool & spa clean, used daily. Location spot on, car was parked up most of the time, supermarket within easy walking distance. We are repeat guests & will continue to stay at Summit Motor Lodge.

Welcoming, Clean and perfect for families. Our kids loved the pool and spa area. Rooms were great size with a beautiful view on the second deck. Staff were polite, welcoming and really helpful. Would stay here again!!

After holding a booking for several months, arrived to be told by the very rude manageress, 'we are full, and so is the whole of Tauranga'. After shuffling some paperwork, we managed to get a room here. Room was dirty, tired and reeked of stale cigarette smoke. No apology for any of this fiasco was forthcoming. The management of this property need to learn about hospitality. Stay well clear of the Best Western Summit Motor Lodge. You can do a lot better.

The Summit Motor Lodge is a well-established business on Waihi Road in Tauranga. We have stayed there several times and have never regretted our decision. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are immaculate (such shiny stainless steel!) and there is plenty of bedding for those who feel the cold. We have never had to use it. The beds are comfortable, there is a good fish and chip shop across the road and the service is great. HIghly recommended.

First of all, this is a lovely complex, the room we had was spotless and well kept, the water pressure was excellent (although the shower did not stay at a steady temperature), the grounds are immaculate and it’s fairly central, only a couple of minutes drive to the city centre; we were genuinely looking forward to staying.
Our requirements when looking for a room were that it had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and was relatively central, as (amongst other personal reasons) we were attending a wedding and needed plenty of space and a full kitchen so that we could do some of the cooking down there, rather than driving down with a car full of food. We booked months in advance and on the booking form advised that we would not be arriving until after 6PM.
At 5:30PM on the day, we called to advised that we may be a little later than 6PM as, even though we’d just arrived we had to detour to a different part of the city to drop some of the items off for the wedding. At this time we were advised as the result of someone deciding to stay longer we were not able to have the room we booked and instead would be “upgraded” to a 1 bedroom apartment with a spa and at a cheaper rate. We were given no option in this, just told it was happening. We also found a Voicemail left at 5.13PM (15mins before we called) asking us to please call the motel, however if this call was to advise of the change, it was extremely late in the day.
The time of day left us us no option but to accept the offer as we didn’t have time to call around and look for other accomodation which actually met our requirements. We did find that on arrival we were given a complimentary bottle of wine; however while this gesture was appreciated, as none of us drink this unfortunately didn’t really help.
The room we were given only contained a kitchenette which was inadequate for our needs and as we were to be out almost the entire time, the spa wasn’t really a feature we had use for. I personally had only a couple of hours sleep on the Friday night thanks to having to share a room (I suffer terrible insomnia, one of the reason I always book individual rooms). As well as this, we three adults, one with some mobility issues had to share the one small bathroom and lounge to get ready for the wedding. This, combined with having to find alternative arrangements due to lack of facilities made for an extremely stressful day from start to finish.
Upon check out, we found that the accomodation cost us only $10 total less that we were quoted for the 2 Bedroom aparment, so not only did we not have our requirements met, we were charged the same rate as if we had. Please note that we chose to not aggressively push this at the time as we really didn't need to add arguing with management to our stress (and to be honest I was so angry at the time I didn't trust myself to be polite in any way).
Regardless, I’m truly upset that our requirements and booking meant nothing and that our needs were held secondary to that of those who decided to change their booking at the last minute. I cannot understand why they were not moved into the room that we were provided (if more beds were needed, surely fold outs could be supplied) so that we could have the room we booked. Had there been a booking error I would have have been disappointed but understanding, but to be actively selected as less important is both frustrating and disappointing.

Response from Mike B, Owner at Summit Motor Lodge
Responded 14 Nov 2011
When we get things wrong it can be very distressing for all concerned and this was no exception. On initial contact our guests were offered the option of a suitable unit at another motel close by but declined and appeared comfortable with the unit provided. Communication becomes so important when things are not as they should be. We pride ourselves on the service we give and in this instance had no idea there was a problem. Over the two days our guests were with us there were options which would have made life easy for them. Our conference room kitchen was not in use and would have served them well if we had known of this need. An extra unit could have been provided to meet the problem of insomnia if we had but known. This does not detract however from the fact that the unit that was booked was given to an extending guest. The correct decision was to shift this guest leaving the booked unit for those coming. This did not happen and led to a stay that was anything but what it should have been. Please do not for a moment think that your family group is any less important than any other. Every guest who comes to this motel is very important to us and our expectation is that we will do the very best we can for each one to ensure their stay is all that they would want. In this case we failed and for this we apologise most sincerely. It will not happen again.

The host was efficient and friendly. He gave us a generous amount of milk on the first day. The units are well laid out. Spacious kitchen and bathroom. Clean and tidy both inside and out. Friendly room attendants who serviced our room well. A shopping centre close by with a New World. My family were very happy with our stay.

The staff of the Summit Motel Motor Lodge was very friendly and however their weren't many places to park due to the fact we had two cars. The facilities were great except the tap in the bathroom was very loud and hard to completely turn off. The Motel was not that clean but it was affordable and allowed pets.
