Comfy old style motel great location. Friendly host. Across the road from the harbour front. We had a large family sized room with a comfy bed and well equipped kitchen. Nice and quiet. Reasonable price compared to most.

Lovely view of harbour from our unit balcony,. Motel in walking distance of restaurants, shops and movie theatres, and a stones throw from a lovely stroll along the wharf walkway.. A few minutes to the harbour bridge and quick access to to Mount Maunganui.. Everything you would want for a Bach holidsy. Friendly and helpful owners. clean unit with comfortable bed and plenty of hot water for showers. Loved the trains. We stayed 5 nights and plan to book in again for our next holiday in Tauranga. A great budget motel to stay in. Thank you. Fay.C

Always good to hear from people who measure our offer on what we promote; Good clean affordable accommodation in the heart of the city with harbour views and as hosts we try very hard to ensure our guests have all the help and information they need during their stay. Colleen and Allan.

We booked this motel because of it being nice and close to town and a good price. i wasn’t very happy with the cleanliness of the place the bathroom floor was sticky and the bedspread had stains on it , also when we booked we had no idea this was right by the train tracks witch kept us up also as the bars closed and there was a few drunk men trying to have a fight right out front and i didn’t fell our car was safe as we had to park on the street .i would recommend this place if you plan on having a big night on the town and don’t care where you sleep.

We stand by our philosophy of; "Good clean affordable accommodation in the heart of the city with harbour views" The word "Clean" in our philosophical statement we stand by; because we do most of the cleaning ourselves....and yes across the road and beyond the park is the railway line, because it only serves the port, trains are not frequent. Also every guest on arrival is allocated a free undercover park some choose not to use it. Colleen and Allan.

We were kindly given Unit 1 for our 2-night stay and were rapt by its views across the harbour, the railway and even the airport. The room itself had everything we needed, i.e. space, sofa, kitchenette and windows that open.
The place is not new by any means but it was clean and functional and, as we understand, is slowly but surely being upgraded bit by bit. There is no laundry on site at this stage but there's a laundromat not too far away in Cameron Street.
Staff were all extremely friendly and remained approachable throughout our stay.
To us, this is the sort of motel where we could be happy to relax in for much longer than our 2 nights, enabling us to walk to nearby restaurants and cafes, as well as parks and walkways.

Checkin was accidental as I bumped into the owner just as he was leaving, despite arriving right at the time I said I would. The buildings location is great, and it was clean, but the property is extremely run down. The interior has long past it, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable, the site was noisy, the room was small. Parking was tight, The TV took a while to work out, but I got it going eventually.

I live in Tauranga however my two friends from out of town wanted to come down and catch up. They booked this motel and I cannot even fathom the hostility of the owners. One of the friends staying here had come to my house a few weeks before and had accidentally left wallet at my house so when I was coming into town to meet them I thought I would quickly pop in drop off the wallet while they were still getting ready and meet our other friends that were on the strand. My friend stated that the owners had been quite aggressive in letting them know there were no visitors after 7pm (was 8.30pm when I came) so not to stay long just drop the wallet off, quick chat and go. So when I arrived I walked into their room to greet them and to drop off the wallet, I literally wasn't in there for 20 seconds before there was a knock at the door. We opened it and the male owner started yelling violently at us saying that we were causing trouble. He was coming very close to my face and pointing in my face screaming. I said "look I am not wanting to cause any trouble, I needed to drop my friends wallet off and now I am leaving" he continued to say that we were 'playing games' and he gets our kind coming in here all the time abusing other guests?? (We are young professionals, dressed nicely so I am unsure whether he means because we are in our mid 20's?). I said "listen you are intimidating me, I am not wanting confrontation with you I am leaving”. He then started yelling at my friend saying that he had signed and agreed from the start no guests after 7pm and said that the guy staying above him (must be a semi-perm guest) was ‘this tall’ and would come down and knock him out! Then the female owner came out and both of them started yelling. I then left. When I met up with my friends again they said they demanded another $10 from them for having two people even though when they booked the room it was for 2 people for the price they paid at the start? When they asked to see where it says it is an extra $10 for 2 people instead of 1 the male owner shoved it close to their faces and started yelling again. Also one of them is from Dubai with clear English and during all there tantrum they were saying ‘you and your Indian mate’ and saying ‘we don’t need your … (mockingly made sounds similar to Indian language)’. I honestly could not believe this. Of course my friends had to not speak back or anything just in case they got kicked out for nothing. Please do not stay here it was a NIGHTMARE

The issue here is one person arrived at the front desk and filled out the booking in document stating one person and was reminded about what he had stated and the “no visitors after 7pm” rule that he had signed. He acknowledged he fully understood. About 8.30pm a female arrived and entered the room. I knocked on the door and reminded the guest of the conditions he agreed to… the female then left. A little later another person entered the room and this person stated that he was a paying guest. They were both shown the booking in sheet stated one person and should the other wish to stay there would be an extra $10 charge. This was paid.

This is the first time that we have ever stayed close into town and next time we will stick to the outer edges a bit more. We stayed in a studio unit and it was tiny indeed. There were dishes for eating meals in the room along with a microwave but we found it hard to wash the dishes in the hand basin in the bathroom and it needed two people to do this as one needed to hold the dish so that the other with the teatowel could grab it and dry it! This complex seriously needs some money spent on it. We stayed upstairs and the stairway did not seem very solid to me. Until after 2 in the morning we could hear people in the street and traffic noises. I would not recommend this motel if you wanted a relaxed evening in a nicely appointed room.

We had booked out the whole motel for our club (20 people). This was our first trip to Tauranga as a club, although personally have been there before. On arrival we were met by the Manager who gave us the keys to our units. The units were cold and had a damp feeling. We had chosen this motel for its location to the Wharf for our fishermen and the town for the ladies. Big mistake. For the two nights we were there we hardly slept with the noise of the club at the rear of the club until 3.30am and the shunting of the freight trains in the night. The beds were clean although not very comfy. Although we had read the previous reviews we thought that some peoples expectations were different from ours. However, they were right and we were wrong. The whole motel is very old and tired. The motel would benefit from a good facelift including some sort of sound blocking on the front units. It would suit more of a backpacker situation. Apart from the Motel, Tauranga is a great place.

A couple of these ladies who tagged along with the fishermen to come shopping complained about the noise after the first night. I reminded them our caution when they booked, although the charter boat left from across the road from the motel which was great for the fishermen the negative was our closeness to the entertainment heart of Tauranga which can be noisy at times. I also reminded the guy I dealt with who helped organise the booking and informed me it wasn’t a problem with him and added financially it was the best deal by far compared to previous fishing trips they had in the past. Her other comments are personnel and conflict with other visitors who keep returning because of the value for money.

Just got back from an almost two week stay at the Strand and loved it.
Granted the proximity to train tracks and the central nightlife area means there can be quite some noise at times but owners warn of this beforehand
Nevertheless we found it a great place to stay. The decor was a little dated but other than everything was more than satisfactory. Clean and neat, with all the necessary amenities. More than enough dishes, utensils and kitchen gadgets. Large sink, microwave, ceramic cooktop and fridge, with lots of kitchen storage space.

Only issue we had was it got quite warm especially at nights and opening windows to let in the cool air sometimes also came with the smoky smell of those getting their nightime nicotine fix, but guess that cant be helped.

The location was the best feature especially for those wanting to cook their own meals like us. Across the road is the Fish Market, which is always busy all day long and is open quite late too, closing at about 7pm most days. The made to order fish and chips seem to be the most popular and are quite generous servings too. Also can buy seafood to cook yourself and then pop back across the road to cook it fresh like we did the delicious salmon. Next block over and a minutes walk away is the best little fresh fruits and vegetable shop, prices were some of the cheapest around. There are several markets in the area, but what I wish I had gone to was the early Saturday market. The supermarkets are a couple minutes drive away but since we didnt have a car the owners kindly arranged for us to get a lift to the supermarket. Also fresh towels every day and an additional nice gesture was the daily paper delivery.

Other than that, the Strand is very close to the main bus depot, 2 min stroll away, and buses towards the supermarket, neighbouring suburbs and the Mount leave regularly. The central city area and a wide range of shops, eateries, banks, post office, souvenir shops are all literally down the road.

I stayed at the Strand with my wife in mid february on our trip up the North Island. We booked it because it was in the centre of Tauranga close to the waterfront and resturants. Don`t be put off by the negative comments, the trains were not a problem and the value for the location is fantastic. The room was clean with all the facities you need albeit a little dated but the cost could not be better and the owners were lvely people. We will stay there again on our next trip to NZ in a couple of years
