You'll see that 99% of my other reviews for shops and sites are 5 stars, so when i write a 1 star review it's because the place is seriously out of line. If you read the reviews for this place over the past 5 months you'll see numerous 1 star reviews. I should have based my decision on these rather than 4.1 overall. There were multiple problems with the expensive $305 one-bedroom room. 1) intermittent foul odour from one of the drains in the bathroom, 2) both bedside lamps didn't work, 3) kitchen tap only produced scolding water, no cold water, 4) kitchen kettle didn't work (unless you stood there holding it in contact with the base at just the right angle while it warmed up/boiled). Notified them when there, tap fixed, and they placed incense in the bathroom, Emailed them afterward and they apologised that: "We take extreme pride in keeping our property up to the highest of standards of cleanliness, but clearly, we had a lapse during this time with us. We have addressed these issues with our housekeeping team. We do have new housekeeping staff and your feedback has shown that we will need to provide ongoing supervision to ensure the cleanliness expected in our apartments is maintained. We also apologise that our maintenance team were not advised prior to your stay that the lamps were not working due to blown light bulbs as we would have replaced them straight away." Asked for a refund, but was offered an unspecified discount if we stay there again. No thanks. Why would we gamble on that? I'd rather sleep in a shared dorm at the backpackers than gamble on the Quest Taupo. Danger! Avoid this place at all costs!!…
Great facility. This is the place to stay in Taupo. Rooms are are amazing they have everything you need and more. Great location and within walking distance from city center. Looks exactly like the pictures on the website. Also great for a family sharing.
Receptionist was welcoming and helpful. Free on site parking and good WiFi Unit was immaculate. Lovely cosy one bedroom apartment for an overnight stay. Welcoming, helpful receptionist. Immaculate apartment, comfortable bed, good bathroom, adequate kitchenette. Heat pump, double glazing windows but they didn't open so no fresh air. Free on site parking and good free WiFi. Very close to the center of Taupo. There was a sulphur smell when using the water in the bathroom, basin, toilet and particularly the shower. I left a note for reception on departure but it would appear from previous reviews it is an ongoing problem. Not good.
Hotel stinks like it needs a good clean. Unit smelt like fish, and the windows dont open so couldn’t get rid of the stench. Reception is never open. Grumpy staff. No lift. Not enough parking so have to park vehicle on the roadside!
My family and I stayed for 2 out of the 4 nights we booked to stay here. I would recommend you don’t stay here due to the poor quality of the building, the lack of staff attendance and the uncleanliness of the rooms. No ventilation (so the windows and windowsills were a waterfall in the morning), cheap & loud appliances, bad plumbing (due to the design of the building) so an overflow drain positioned on the floor in the kitchen spilled slippery dishwater bubbles onto the tile floor and the bathroom sink was fully blocked when we arrived, and the unavailability of staff meant sink blockage couldn’t be resolved until almost 20hrs after we arrived. Cleaning staff left dirty laundry sacks on the pathway with the ramp access, which meant we had to lift our pushchair up over the step to enter and exit the building. They were left there for many hrs I.e when we left for a walk to town at 10am and also when we returned at 1pm. Unfortunate for someone who may have been in a wheelchair and not able to be lifted over. Moulded on bathroom ceiling, the dishwasher sounded like a cement mixer. The dishwashing liquid & laundry powder sachets were not enough for one load of either and they don’t replace these (just an FYI, not complaining about it). No windows in the bedroom (we stayed in a 1br apartment). The place was like a ghost town, there were a few cars in the carpark (half full maybe?) and there were no reception staff here between 5pm and 10am (Quest central call centre were quite surprised when I rang them about the blocked bathroom sink at 9am that someone wasn’t there at 8am as they should have been).…
