Rob and Karen were fantastic hosts, and their lodge was beautiful. Old school character and decor, but incredibly comfortable and well appointed. Very comfortable bed, great view over the lake, spa poolfor two, and delicious breakfasts cooked by Rob. Complimentary bottle of wine on arrival doesn’t go amiss either. Karen is very knowledgeable about the area, especially in regards to restaurants, cafes and local walks. Definitely worth a stay.

We absolutely loved every moment of our stay at Flying Trout Boutique Lodge. Rob and Karen are terrific hosts! From the warm welcome the moment we walked in the door, the glorious complimentary bottle of wine, the beautiful room, the view over Lake Taupo from the spa bath, to the special care to ensure we took the best driving route when we left the Lodge. We cannot fault a thing and would unhesitatingly recommend your beautiful Flying Trout Boutique Lodge to others. We are already looking to a return visit in the New Year.

Many thanks to Karen & Rob for making the end of our holiday such a memorable one. The Lodge is very homely, beautifully decorated and has a great view. Karen & Rob are wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. And we recommend you follow their travel instructions if you are driving back to Auckland - take in some lovely scenery on quiet country roads. We will come again and highly recommend the Lodge.

Our stay at the Flying Trout was wonderful. Rob and Karen are fabulous hosts, who greeted us warmly and gave us the tour of the property, and we instantly felt at home. Their home was warm, and beautifully decorated. The views of the lake and surrounding area were spectacular, from every vantage point. We were offered a complimentary bottle of wine, of our choosing when we were having the tour. There was a billiard room and bar. The room we stayed in was bright and very spacious with a huge dressing room and an even bigger bathroom with a spa bath - again with views of the lake. The bed was comfy, and warm. The basket of chocolates were a very nice touch, along with the chocolate bar on the bed. The room had it's own bench and sink, fully appointed with tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was included in our stay. Continental followed by a cooked breakfast. We both chose the Big Breakfast. It should have been called the huge breakfast! It was delicious and after consuming the continental breakfast first, I wasn't able to do the cooked breakfast justice. The next morning, I skipped the continental and Karen made a smaller plate of the cooked breakfast for me. Still delicious, and I managed to finish it all this time! Sorry Bessy (dog) no leftovers for you that day. Rob and Karen had great tips on places to visit and eat, and gave us a printed sheet with directions on how to travel home via a different, much more scenic route. We will definitely stay again, and highly recommend this lodge.

Undoubtedly this was the best accommodation I have ever stayed in. It was absolutely beautiful every attention to detail is taken in this fabulous lodge. I could not have asked for anything more. If I could rate if 10 stars I would, Karen and Rob the hosts cannot do enough for you and they are so lovely to chat with, we really enjoyed their company. A fabulous weekend away if you want to spoil yourselves!!!

Highly recommended. Karen & Rob are great hosts of this stunning property. The Kiwi suite was very comfortable and had nice little touches e.g free chocolates. The hot tub on the deck was great. We used their local knowledge to go on a wonderful hidden lakeside bushwalk & ate at some very special local cafes. We would stay here again for sure.

We booked to stay at The Flying Trout Boutique Lodge as a treat - and it was all we could have hoped for and more! Rob met us when we arrived and showed us round before taking us to our utterly gorgeous suite. It was so much bigger than anticipated, and the view from the balcony was stupendous! There were lots of little treats (like the chocolates, cookies and chocolate milk). Karen had very kindly made up a cheese platter for my partner (it was his birthday), which was much appreciated. Everything from the bed to the bathroom was luxurious and the beautiful antiques all around were stunning. Breakfast in the lovely sunny dining room was delicious, and nothing was too much trouble. The whole experience was wonderful and well worth the money. We will definitely be staying again and would recommend 100%!

We spent 3 wonderful nights at The Flying Trout Boutique Lodge. Our hosts Karen and Rob made us so welcome and went out of their way to make our stay so lovely, including tips on things to see and do. Rob also took us into town on 2 evenings so that we didn’t have to drive. Our room The Tui Suite was beautiful. It had everything we needed and more, like the bar of special chocolate and the caddy with mini chocolate bars!!The spa bath was great and the breakfast was delicious. The whole property is beautiful. I even learnt how to play snooker (badly). If you want a bit of luxury and a warm welcome then this is the place. We cannot rate Karen, Rob and The Flying Trout Boutique Lodge highly enough
