What a truly delightful home in every aspect, full of many unique little treasures. The room was drop dead gorgeous and the view was the icing on the cake. Pricey but worth every penny if you truly want to treat yourself. Not a great fan of lolling around in a bath but couldn't help myself, so indulged in lots of bubbles, glass of wine, opened the window and enjoyed the view - now that's what I call a relaxing evening! Breakfast the following morning was wonderful with many delightful options and last but not least, the host and hostess made us feel so very welcome and very much at home. Will definitely go back again and have already recommended it to family and friends!

From the moment our lovely hosts opened the door to welcome us, we knew we were somewhere special! Genuine warm hospitality, glamorous luxury in every detail from the cutlery to the exquisite decor and super comfy bed. Own private spa pool on the terrace of the Kiwi Suite which was sumptuous, peaceful and very quiet with breath taking views. Wonderful breakfast included and an easy walk to the local bar & brasserie for dinner. Cuddles with smoochy fur baby Bessie topped off a fabulous experience. Ask for back road directions if heading to Auckland by road - awesome! Our only complaint was we only booked for 1 night because we would have loved to stay longer. We will be back for certain. Very highly recommended.

Honestly, I'd give Flying Trout more stars if it was possible. Just a lovely experience from start to finish. The friendly hosts Rob & Karen (& Bessie the dog) greeted my sister & I as we arrived on the last leg of our road trip from Hamilton, heading home to Wellington. They are friendly, helpful & made us feel welcome straight away. The lodge is appointed beautifully - there's something lovely to delight the eye everywhere you look. Everything is done with an attention to detail from the gorgeous roses as you come in, to the placement of the furniture & artwork. The bed was super comfortable, there are leather chairs to lounge in & a deck from which to admire the view of Lake Taupo - which we certainly did the following morning as we enjoyed a fabulous breakfast. The bathroom has to be seen to be believed, A double shower, with both a regular & a rainforest attachment, a double vanity unit & a huge spa bath. It's just a pity we could only stay one night. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
