Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I would only recommend this if it was the last place to stay in Taupo. It was dirty and the duvet was covered in stains which makes one wonder about the cleanliness of the rest of the bedding. Shelf falling off the wall in the bathroom and extractor fans full of dust. Warm beer served at the bar and all the other details as to room size and decor have already been covered in previous reviews. The receptionist was good and arranged a replacement duvet immediately but the manager the next morning blamed the stains on their cleaning products. On the positive side they refunded our second nights accommodation promptly after we found somewhere else to stay.

When we first got here the lady who showed us to our room was very nice. The single bed was a bit dusty from the window next to it. Our room had no toaster, microwave, no cutlery and no plates or bowls. They just had a kettle, glasses and mugs. The beds were very hard and uncomfy. Our view was not very good. You could see the other hotel right next to this motel and if you move your head right you can just barely see the lake. We couldn’t figure out how to turn tv on. We found out that it had been unplugged so we had to plug it in ( this was behind a couch ) This motel had no AC only a medium standing fan and a ceiling fan - both do not give of much air. If you leave the ceiling fan on at night you can hear a noise. The bathroom fan is also very dusty and dirty. Our curtain was broken as well. We saw on our TV remote that there was no case and the batteries were cello taped in. This is only good if you are staying here for 1-2 nights. Only thing good is the social club and the food there is amazing! The location is good as well.

You definitely get what you pay for with this place. $140 for 2 people for 1 night in the centre is a steal, however this place isn’t for the faint-hearted. I’ve seen about 10 different varieties of public hairs during my stay, mostly nestled in the towels or bathmatt. There was an extremely stale smell coming from the bathroom that can only be described as a damp ash tray - told the reception however they couldn’t have cared less. Walls are like paper so was woken up but the neighbour shutting the toilet seat. The carpet was literally sticky and we literally wiped our feet on the way out. If you’re ok with hostel vibe then this is for you, I would personally pay more and stay elsewhere to avoid catching something

We stayed 3 nights in the winter and found the accommodation to be warm and quiet. The reception staff were all amazing and friendly. Our waitress extraordinare was so efficient, personable and friendly. The meals in the restaurant were excellent and generous.

Double bed and two singles in room. Beds were reasonably comfy. Cleanliness wasn't up to scratch though.Rubbish left under bed from previous people. Shower was dirty with mould around floor edges. Fan in bathroom when light turned on was so loud and disturbed everyone. Communal spa pool on day we stayed was really unclean with grit on bottom. For the price would not stay again or recommend.

Okay spot for one night just to rest your head. On arrival staff are very friendly. As per previous reviews the spa pool is still not working. Lodge is very dated and walls are super thin. If you are in a downstairs room you can hear people when they walk in the room above. You can hear when someone in any room around you uses the toilet or has a shower. We had four people in a room (2 adults and 2 kids). Rooms are small but warm. Even in the middle of winter we didn't need to use the heater. Toilet system and fan are very loud so if someone in your room (or surrounding rooms) use the toilet in the middle of the night you will probably be woken up. Beds are a little lumpy but if you're tired enough you will fall asleep. Tea and coffee they give you in the room are of pretty low quality and you are essentially drinking colored water. We paid $226 for a night's accommodation here for our family which is low in comparison to other accommodation around Taupo. If you are looking to break up a trip and stay here just to sleep (if you are a good sleeper) then this place is perfect. It also has a restaurant on site which does pretty good meals.

Very disappointing. Really overpriced for what they give you. Paid $270 a night to get backpacking experience. Its more like dorm rooms where you can hear the person in the next room whisper. Spa advertised yet out of order. Parking is an aweful experience as very limited parks and had to park down the road. And for the price they could it least give you normal milk instead of those little packets of long life milk, the coffee!/teas selection is what you get at dirt cheap hotel. Room was cold and dark. I really felt ripped off getting this room.

I booked this for one night using Booking.com. looking at their photos first. Also because they advertise a restaurant onsite. The photos showed a room with a desk and a chair plus a bed with bedside tables and wall lamps. Easy to find on the lakefront with some parking out the front. When the young lady showed us to our room she told us the restaurant wasn’t available tonight because of a private function. I was amazed how many corridors and rooms there were. Like a dormitory. Our room was so small you could not open a suitcase without putting it up onto the bed. It was like a broom cupboard with a bed in it!! So once we had what we needed we then put one suitcase standing up under the window and the other in the bathroom. The room was so narrow there was only room for one bedside cabinet with a corner shelf above for the jug, cups and glasses etc.. It was so stuffy we had to sleep with the window open as no air conditioning- there was a small fan on the floor but no where to put it! We would not stay here again or recommend it.
