Detailed Reviews
The room was nothing like the pictures on the website. The room is tiny and only private if you pull the blind. If the blind is up then the people in the restaurant could see into my room. There is not even a suitable space to put your suitcase. No desk or chair in the room. The ammenities were very limited and there was no space to prepare anything just a tiny little shelf in the corner. For a lodge in a small town I would expect parking but when I arrived I was told the parking was just first in first served. There is also no aircon but thankfully there was a fan. The customer service was also pretty average and it appeared checking you in was not their top priority. The restaurant has a lovely view and a good menu. It is not connected to the motel so you are not able to charge to your room. There were no plugs by the bed for charging your phone etc. Bedding was comfortable and the room was clean. The reception area is attractive and the pool area is lovely. The bathroom was fine, simple and clean and unlike the room itself spacious! Very basic minimal ammenities.

This place is right on the lake. So perfect to get out in the day and go for a walk. It is less than a 10 minute walk into Taupo town. There is a bar/ restaurant on site. If you don't want to eat at the hotel you can walk less than 5 minutes down the road to an english pub which serves great food. The beds were super comfy. Basic things in the room, and you can have the option to order a toaster or microwave. The small fridge/ freezer was perfect. We were a family of 4, so our room had a double bed and two singles. Clean and tidy room. Helpful staff. Has a small pool and spa which the kids enjoyed. Basic accommodation, but we were happy with that as we ate out every night and brought our own breakfasts and cutlery.

I booked this for one night using Booking.com. looking at their photos first. Also because they advertise a restaurant onsite. The photos showed a room with a desk and a chair plus a bed with bedside tables and wall lamps. Easy to find on the lakefront with some parking out the front. When the young lady showed us to our room she told us the restaurant wasn’t available tonight because of a private function. I was amazed how many corridors and rooms there were. Like a dormitory. Our room was so small you could not open a suitcase without putting it up onto the bed. It was like a broom cupboard with a bed in it!! So once we had what we needed we then put one suitcase standing up under the window and the other in the bathroom. The room was so narrow there was only room for one bedside cabinet with a corner shelf above for the jug, cups and glasses etc.. It was so stuffy we had to sleep with the window open as no air conditioning- there was a small fan on the floor but no where to put it! We would not stay here again or recommend it.

Very disappointing. Really overpriced for what they give you. Paid $270 a night to get backpacking experience. Its more like dorm rooms where you can hear the person in the next room whisper. Spa advertised yet out of order. Parking is an aweful experience as very limited parks and had to park down the road. And for the price they could it least give you normal milk instead of those little packets of long life milk, the coffee!/teas selection is what you get at dirt cheap hotel. Room was cold and dark. I really felt ripped off getting this room.

I booked at the beginning of June for a room from 11-13 July. I was so looking forward to my break away. Unfortunately I tested positive on 7 July so I am in isolation until the 14 July. It was a non-refundable booking, however, I rang and asked if it was possible to move the booking to the following week and they declined my request. So they pocketed $346.29. So disappointing.
I have rebooked with another establishment. I would not recommend this establishment.

The booking and sign says Lakefront Lodge. When we arrived at reception the welcome felt very unprofessional. There was only a dog behind reception on arrival. We pushed the bell for service and a young lady came out as if we were interrupting her from doing something else. There was no greeting. She dealt with us in an offhand manner. A smile or two may have been nice. We stayed in room 27 and it was basic. The bed was rickety, you couldn’t move on it without it creaking loudly. There was only one bedside cabinet although there was room to have one on both sides of the bed. There were two wine glasses on a tray of completely different sizes and one drinking glass. 2 cups with the usual standard tea bags/coffee and capsules of milk in the fridge.
The room seemed clean enough but every movement from the guest above could be heard (I assume it was a guest?). We could hear someone walking about above us and even their phone vibrate. The bathroom was clean but the cleaner has overlooked the dust on the extractor fan. There was an old fashioned pine glass holder screwed to the wall by the sink that had seen better days and had no glass! Either put a glass in it or remove it! There was also a white plastic holder of some sort screwed to the wall on the other side of the sink (maybe for toothbrushes - I am not quite sure).
As for the advertised swimming pool. I would just say ‘pool’ as it is really small and not much swimming would be going on. It is positioned in a place where everyone walks past to access there rooms, along with the hot tub. It also didn’t look very well maintained, the water had a lot of debris floating in it. They advertise restaurant and bar but this was under refurbishment and a large sign above a booth says ‘takeaways’ but the booth is permanently boarded up.
Just a bit of attention to detail could improve this place. They really need to get their act together.

We stayed 3 nights in the winter and found the accommodation to be warm and quiet. The reception staff were all amazing and friendly. Our waitress extraordinare was so efficient, personable and friendly. The meals in the restaurant were excellent and generous.

When we first got here the lady who showed us to our room was very nice. The single bed was a bit dusty from the window next to it. Our room had no toaster, microwave, no cutlery and no plates or bowls. They just had a kettle, glasses and mugs. The beds were very hard and uncomfy. Our view was not very good. You could see the other hotel right next to this motel and if you move your head right you can just barely see the lake. We couldn’t figure out how to turn tv on. We found out that it had been unplugged so we had to plug it in ( this was behind a couch ) This motel had no AC only a medium standing fan and a ceiling fan - both do not give of much air. If you leave the ceiling fan on at night you can hear a noise. The bathroom fan is also very dusty and dirty.
Our curtain was broken as well. We saw on our TV remote that there was no case and the batteries were cello taped in. This is only good if you are staying here for 1-2 nights. Only thing good is the social club and the food there is amazing! The location is good as well.

Stayed here for one night in a double studio room, room was small but cute, we stayed on a Sunday night so plenty of parking and the place was quiet. Bed was comfy and shower was hot with ample pressure. Was a pleasant stay would stay again thanks

Management needs a lesson in customer service. Clearly she is out of touch when dealing with a situation and proceeded to snigger over the phone. My card was charged $100 5 months after my son spilling a drink on the carpet. I brought this to their attention upon check out and was told they should be able to get it out but if not I may be charged. I had no issue with that but asked to be contacted. Yesterday I discovered my account was less $100 and due payments didn’t go out because of this. When speaking to the manager I was told she had been trying to charge it for the last 5 months and it declined. Dam rite it did because only make certain funds available in that account. Not once was I called even tho they have all of my details including my email and phone number. She says she made a lot of attempts but no one single phone call to bring it to my attention like I asked. She then proceeded to tell me I dealt with her and she told me when in FACT i never once spoke to her, it was the receptionist and the cleaner. She then proceeded to tell me that I wouldn’t of paid for the stain and I’m like the other million people who do these things and not pay. Rude and assuming to say the least. I’m happy to pay for any damage and why would I have brought it their attention if I was trying to run away from it. Had I known I would of made the funds available. You just don’t expect it to happen 5 months down the track and would think after all the attempts she would of called me out of courtesy at the VERY least. Horrible woman to deal with and would not recommend this outdated uncomfortable motel in any case.

Yes there is an outside pool but it is not heated. There is also a spa outside.
