Detailed Reviews
Have stayed before some years back and found unit to be very comfortable and roomy on both occasions. Friendly & clean and went that extra mile to suit our needs. For Taupo, Chevron is very fairly priced and walking or hop step and jump and your in town.

While the room (16) was tired looking there was certainly plenty of space tp 'spread out'. The couch was comfortable. Considering the motel is close to an intersection there was little traffic noise. Easy walk into town. The bed was a little low and was okay to sleep on. There were only 2 pillows so luckily these were okay. Fan in bathroom was pretty noisy and the shower is deinitely on the small side. For some reason the bed was on the opposite side of the room than I thought made sense. There was only a couple of plugs on one side of the bed that had an extension cord as well as a multiboard. not ideal. For only one night and the price it was okay

The room was clean and tidy, the people were friendly.... When we arrived they upgraded us for free and were very pleasant to deal with. The stay seemed perfect, until we went to check out. As soon as they saw the end of our business, it was the classic bait and switch. We'd paid for the room in advance, but they insisted the room had not been paid. Not only that, but the room rate had gone from $110 to $140 per night, saying that our party was larger than we'd said and that the rate cannot be less than that.
We'd booked through the Automobile Association (New Zealand) and had in fact paid in advance. When we pointed this out, the woman at the front desk insisted that the AA do not take payments, but only provide bookings. When faced with the paid receipt and AA confirmation showing the exact size of our party, she still did not back down and started saying that it was our fault for not having shown them the printouts in advance.
Finally these "hosts" refused to return our credit card unless we paid $130 for the second night (we had extended our stay as we had thought the motel quite nice over the first night). I'll be reporting this to my credit card as a scam.
In conclusion, this is a clean, reasonably quiet, motel which is conveniently located and run by seemingly nice people who engage in questionable business practices. Pay in advance and you could be alright; look to check out without proof of pre-payment or after extending your stay and expect to face a classic scam and a very hard-line. The AA are currently investigating, and I will be lodging a formal complaint through my home automobile association back overseas...

Wow our first visit to TAUPO, this motel was more than we expected totally blew us away. Location was in the heart of TAUPO walking distance to town centre TAUPO LAKE, etc. Our unit was a 1bdrm was very clean, accommodating 2 adults & 2 children, very thing in it was excellent . The unexpected bonus was the SPA POOL guest could use privately. Check in was a true friendly welcome with local knowledge of TAUPO's attractions, food & entertainment venues another motel highly recommended. woohoo!!

I usually try not to stay anywhere under 4 stars, but being last minute and peak holiday time, we had to take what we could.
We wanted two bedrooms as we had our teenage daughter with us. This limited us even more.
The prices were exorbitant compared to normal rates.
The motel is in need of some major refurbishment as it appears to be of 90’s vintage, and looks a bit rundown from the outside.
The rooms however were clean and were serviced everyday.
The beds were very uncomfortable and gave me a sore back.
The washing facilities are communal and are closed at 8pm, which is not good if you have been out all day doing holiday stuff.
We also had a problem with ants in the kettle, and power points working one minute and then not the next.
It’s situated within easy walking distance to restaurants and shops.

Big, clean room, full kitchen with two beds. An hour or so of free internet similar to other lodging in this class. No A/C. Quiet location within walking distance to much of Taupo CBD. Beds were maybe a tad hard for my liking but I'd stay here again.

The room was very spacious and clean. It was very functional. I have never heard a toilet flush and refill so loud, but that is a minor point. Location is close to supermarket and other shopping. The owners have paid attention to provide the kitchen with all the items you need to actually cook a meal - extra large serving bowls, measuring cup etc. Overall, it was a great stay.
