Russ and Pat are a truly an amazing couple who welcome you into their home as if you have been friends for years. By the time you leave you will feel as if you have been.

It starts with afternoon tea (Pat is a phenomenal baker) and can progress to more stimulating drinks and nibbles on the terrace in front of their home. The room, well more like rooms, we had was gloriously comfortable and has a lovely terrace overlooking the lake. (The sunsets were pretty special). Breakfast is generous, varied and quite scumptious.

Pat and Russ are very good at making suggestions for activities quite simply great company. Three nights not nearly enough. We'll be back.

From the moment Pat welcomed us in the driveway, until our fond farewell following our two nights' stay, we were immersed in the fabulous ambience and atmosphere that is Ambleside. We cannot write glowingly enough of the overall hospitality afforded to us by these most experienced hosts, Pat and Russ; from the time spent with us planning our sightseeing, the welcoming afternoon tea, drinks before dinner, sumptuous breakfasts (the best in the North Island!) and of course the immaculate facilities. This B&B is indeed up there with the best! Thank-you Pat & Russ, for making us feel like old friends.

The incredible care and attention which Pat and Russ afford to their guests is outstanding . In giving advice and attending to every need they are each wonderful. The accommodation itself could not be more comfortable, and the location (just outside the main part of Taupo but a few minutes walk from the lake ) is perfect.

We stayed at Ambleside on 2 July 2012, in New Zealand's midwinter. Pat and Ross were extremely hospitable hosts and made us feel instantly welcome, as did their lovely wood stove and the cup of tea and cake. Their home is modern and warm, with gorgeous views of Lake Taupo from large windows of the two guest rooms we occupied. One had an adjacent sitting area with balcony. With Pat's help we got reservations at an excellent hotel for dinner, and came back for a soak in the spa pool in the garden before bed. Breakfast was simply outstanding.

We had the extreme fortune to stay at Ambleside on our trip earlier this month. The hosts, Pat and Russ Jensen couldn't have been any better. The home lovely, the view beautiful and the food fabulous. Pat pays great attention to detail in all that she does. She is a warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and generous hostess--and an excellent baker! Russ is also quite entertaining and both have lots of information to share. The home is very nicely decorated and there were no surprises. Sometimes we have found postings elsewhere overrated but not here! You will definitely add this couple to your list of new Kiwi friends. Pat had a great deal of local info for us--brochures and even discount coupons. She is a walking encyclopedia of the area. We had a wonderful stay. The only thing that could have been better would have been us being able to stay longer. I know you will love this spot!!

We stayed in the Lake Suite for 3 nights in November 06 and can do little better than to paraphrase our comments in their guest book.
A truly lovely suite with every comfort and fantastic views from our own balcony whilst being looked after by the loveliest, kindest ,friendliest and most generous hosts in New Zealand.

B&B is the right term for this although it falls into its own category. If such category existed we would probably no longer search for hotels or B&B's at all but always for this type of accommodation. Previous reviews have focused on Pat and Russ' personal hospitality which we could not agree more with. However, we came straight from a "Hotel Indigo", which sets an extremely high quality standard for the room itself, and we did not feel that we "downgraded" to a B&B.

We stayed three nights in this beautiful place and as in many reviews written before this one - we can only confirm that Pat and Russ are the perfect hosts! We felt very comfortable from the very first moment and enjoyed to learn a lot about the region and the life in New Zealand.
The rooms are simply gorgeous and indeed spotless clean. Breakfast is another highlight from the food point of view (homemade jams, muesli, cooked surprises etc.) as well as the fact to have it together with Pat and Russ.
After staying in many B&B's we have experienced Ambleside with Pat and Russ as the perfect place to be!
Many thanks to our great hosts.

Russ and Pat are very friendly, they welcomed us with homemade pancakes ( actually it was another name which is quite common in England). The rooms are very clean and warm. Breakfast is really tasty. There is one geothermal hot tub in the back of the house, and we have enjoyed the hot pool very much after a long walk after dinner.
