This b&b was on a little cul de sac just up from Lake Taupo. Once we had driven up the driveway we were instantly "wow'd". Such a beautiful place and we were fortunate enough to have the top floor, giving us a balcony with unrestricted views over the lake 😍 Pat and Russ were incredibly welcoming and friendly. After our long day of driving they made us feel relaxed and at ease. The accommodation was spacious, clean and to a very high standard. Our stay was very comfortable. Breakfast was also good as we exchanged out travel stories with those that Pat and Russ had, making for very interesting conversation :-) We would highly recommend staying here if you are in the Taupo region.

My wife and I stayed at Ambleside B&B in February and we couldn't have asked for more. Pat and Russ were exceptional hosts...from the minute we met them we felt at home. And it is a beautiful, clean home with a fabulous view of Lake Taupo. And Pat's breakfasts are excellent. If we have the good fortune to visit Lake Taupo again, I would not hesitate to stay with Pat and Russ.

We stayed here for two nights and just loved the whole experience. Pat and Russ are a lovely couple who are genuinely interested in chatting about anything and everything. They are amazing hosts, cooking delightful afternoon tea and a stunning breakfast. The highlight of their B&B is the geothermal pool in the backyard which has its water changed every day and taps hot water from their own bore. Truly a wonderful B&B

This was a return visit to Taupo and we stayed in Ambleside again primarily due to the fantastic experience we have had previously. Russ and Pat are the perfect hosts, however we now see them as our friends. Nothing is too much trouble and from the minute they greet you at the door (whatever time of day you arrive) you are made to feel as if you are their only guests. Both rooms are front facing and the views of Lake Taupo are fantastic. Beds are really comfortable. And you must watch the sunsets - they are absolutely awesome! The hot tub is a real USP - natural hot spring water - and it is yours to use when you wish. Robes are provided Enjoy the breakfast - both the food on offer and the conversation really set you up for the day. We are already planning the next trip to Ambleside :-)

Pat & Russ are the perfect couple to run a B & B. From the moment we drove up and were greeted with warm smiles we felt comfortable. We had a room and sitting room with a terrace overlooking the lake. Pat is a storehouse of great ideas and things to do including those not found in any guide book. Breakfast was superb with lots of fresh fruit, muffins, homemade preserves etc and the hot tub filled with perfectly clear geothermal heated water was a wonderful addition. A nice location a short distance from the center of town but away from the crowds. Well done!

Russ and Pat are very friendly, they welcomed us with homemade pancakes ( actually it was another name which is quite common in England). The rooms are very clean and warm. Breakfast is really tasty. There is one geothermal hot tub in the back of the house, and we have enjoyed the hot pool very much after a long walk after dinner.

We stayed two nights with Pat and Russ in January 2016 and wished we had booked more. They are simply excellent hosts. Everything was superb - the welcome, the accommodation, breakfasts and the good company. I could go on. It must rate as one of the best B&Bs in the whole of New Zealand, if not the best. Needless to say, we won't hesitate to go back.

Without doubt, this is the best B&B we've stayed in. From the minute we arrived, we were welcomed like family . Pat & Russ are wonderful hosts, and their house is superb, with beautiful views over lake and mountains. Nothing was too much trouble. From the fantastic breakfast ( special mention for the ginger & white chocolate muffins) to the baked goodies, everything was perfect. Very sad to only stay the one night .

Never have I been made so comfortable. Sink into the warmth of Pat and Russell's home. Pat and Russell travel widely themselves, and they understand the needs of the traveler. Special touches you won't find elsewhere: air-conditioning, home-baked treats in the refrigerator, extensive hooks for your clothes, pumice stones, and a hot pool with water drawn fresh each day from a well on the property. My sister-in-law, who has trouble sleeping, reported a full night's rest after a late dip in the pool. The chemicals in ordinary spa pools bother her skin, but this all-natural, fresh water gave her a floating sensation. As two couples, we had the place to ourselves. One room has a separate sitting room and a private balcony (complete with sun umbrella) offering a panoramic view of Lake Taupo. We visited Ambleside as part of a tour introducing my brother and sister-in-law to the North Island. Of all the places we visited--Auckland, Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Taupo, Napier, and Wellington--Taupo and Ambleside shone brightest for them. In fifteen years of travelling in New Zealand, Ambleside is the best accommodation (including luxury lodges) I've experienced.
