Detailed Reviews
We had a wonderful few days at Wharewaka Lodge. The hosts, Susan and Tony, were very helpful and booked restaurants, trips etc. Each evening we were invited for drinks and discussed our plans. They were very knowledgeable and we learnt so much about the history and geography of NZ.
The Lodge overlooks the lake and is in a great location to visit the many thermal experiences around Taupo. A luxurious lodge with every comfort catered for.

Our favourite accommodation on our whole tour of New Zealand over the course of a month. Susie and Tony are wonderful, generous and interesting hosts at this lakeside lodge. Breakfast was superb, our en-suite room was very comfortable with a balcony and view of the lake and we loved the wine and canapés before we headed out to dinner - an opportunity to share stories with our lovely hosts. It was great to be able to walk through the garden for a swim in Lake Taupo too! I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation and we hope we can come back one day.

The Lodge sits right on the edge of Lake Taupo so lovely views and easy access for swimming. Our room was perfect.
Susan and Tony were the most welcoming hosts offering drinks on the patio at 6.30pm. We felt we were staying with friends.

We loved our time with Susan and Tony, our only complaint is that it was too short! Their house is absolutely beautiful, so homely, comfortable, peaceful and right on the lake which is a beautiful view to wake up to. The cherry on top was getting to spend some time talking to Susan and Tony about the area and their house. They are such wonderful hosts. Our stay was a definite highlight of our trip and very much hoping to visit again!

A beautiful lodge with direct to the Lake for a morning or evening stroll and of course swimming. The room was beautiful and breakfast was just like home. However the highlight for us were the hosts, Susan and Tony. Their local knowledge ensured that we made the best use of our time. At the end of each day we looked forward to good conversation with Susan and Tony over drinks and canapés. We were sorry to leave and only hope that we will be able to visit another year. Thank you both for a wonderful time.

We stayed just three short nights with Susan and Tony Dalby and could have stayed a lifetime. We were made very welcome the moment we arrived (late)and this hospitality was evident throughout our stay...from the beautifully cooked breakfasts...plenty of choice, fresh fruit, cereals, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon...all well presented. All rooms are tastefully decorated with everything anyone could need....check out the "stick teas". The overall standards were exceptional, spotlessly clean. Susan has a great eye for detail and colour matching...Go there as soon as you can....More of a home than a homeststay !David and Caroline Greenwood

Accommodation recommended by our holiday organiser Audley Travel. They said it was First Class and it certainly was. Susan and Tony our hosts were marvellous providing very clean and tidy place to stay. The breakfasts were excellent and they gave good information on things to see and do. They also helped us to book our two trips whilst in Taupo

My wife and I had 3 great nights at this hotel
The hotel is very comfortable and has all the amenities needed for the traveller
Our room had a terrific view of the lake and it was lovely to sit out on the balcony and watch the world go by
The stay was further enhanced by having Susan and Tony as hosts
They both ensure you enjoy your stay and are brilliant at helping you organise not only your time in Taupo but your future plans as well
Breakfasts are great and set you up for the day
The added bonus is a 6pm soirée on the terrace. Guests are offered top quality wine and canapés and share their travelling experiences as well as getting great insights of NZ from Susan and Tony
We highly recommend this spot

This bed and breakfast lodge is a real winner! The house has wonderful views with an easy walk to the lake shore. The rooms are superbly comfortable and every detail has been thought of. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious but more than anything is the wonderful welcome we received from Susan and Tony. It was our second stay there and they greeted us like long-lost friends! We loved our stay in every respect.

We stayed in the Queen Room with balcony during post Christmas. Whole cosy house was still full of warm Christmas decorations. The lodge wasn't in Taupo city centre but it locates right next to the lake which offer superb environment and easy access to the small beach in front. Great view of the lake from room and balcony. Host Susan and Tony were so sweet so nice we had a wonderful time chatting with them in the guest lodge, enjoying nz wine and home-made pastry. Susan and Tony traveled a lot and she writes fabulous travel books. Breakfast was so good with everything you'd want for a breakfast, fresh fruits yummy bakery hot cooked beacon and egg nice coffee etc. Very comfy bed and a relaxing room which you simple can stay there all day long. Most importantly the warmest hospitality from Susan and Tony that lightened up the trip. Would say it is the best accommodation with Lake Taupo and we will surely stay here again when visiting here next time.
