Stayed one night, loved it. centrally located and within walking distance to town. The unit was large could easily have slept 4 people, large bed with a single bed in one room and in the lounge another single bed tucked away.. Had the best ever breakfast for $18 it was wonderful, so much in fact that I could not eat it all. The hosts were lovely and friendly. A very we run Motel.

Booked initially for two nights but extended it for another two. Our room was on the ground floor with double doors opening onto a little garden seating area. Very large room. Bed was comfortable, kitchen with microwave. Large bathroom with sep shower. Good parking, guest laundry. Lovely pool area with spa and guest barbie which u tell the office and they bring out sauces, tools etc etc. the location is very close to down town Taupo. So room was fantastic, only minus could be if it was very hot as there is a heater on the wall which U can put on cool but it’s really just a fan. The major A+ was the management, what a lovely helpful couple who went beyond helping us. They advised as to sightseeing, walks, restaurants, hence booking the extra days due to their travel hints. It did look like they r handing over to another couple so whether the fantastic standard and service will be of the same excellent standard in the future.

Fantastic customer service from the owners who gave us a room without pre-booking.
Very friendly and accommodating, providing required information and ideas of things to do.
Easy walking distance to the lake and main shopping / eating areas :)
Good size room, comfy bed, air conditioner works well, pool is a little cold but very refreshing. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit

We had a trip to Taupo planned for business and booked through Hotels.com at Chantillv’s so we could overnight and drive home the following day . Unfortunately due to having sick kids we had to cancel our reservation and make it a day trip only. We completed our cancellation within the agreed time before check in but to my surprise Chantilly’s proceeded to charge us regardless. I spent some considerable time on the phone with Hotels.com who contacted Chantilly’s directly who refused to refund the charges and Hotels.com said as the charge was made directly from Chantilly’s they were unable to reverse it.
We had to get my card canceled and disputed the charge with the bank using our booking / cancellation confirmation emails as evidence, the bank ruled in our favour and we eventually got a refund, no thanks to Chantilly’s Lake Taupo.
We were appalled at Chantilly’s charging us for our cancellation when we were well within the terms and conditions & even more surprised by the reaction to Hotels.com phone call.
Stay away ! No respect for customers or NZ consumer law .
Oh and guess what we went past Chantilly’s on the day of our stay and “No Vacancy” sign was up so they resold our room and charged us as well .....

Response from Deborah Kenny, General Manager at Chantilly's Lake Taupo
Responded 7 Sept 2020
Thanks for your feedback. Cancellation was received after 9pm on day of arrival. Very late to cancel we believe when check in is required by 8.30pm. Unfortunately we were not full that evening. We were waiting anxiously for you to arrive. Too late to try to resell your room.

Booked as we wanted pool and internet. Checked in, very pleasant, took 2 towels, which are located in the reception area for the pool. Ground floor room. Definitely no views only road noise. Gave us wifi code but didn't work. Then they rang us to pay... went to reception, paid was then told the pool was not open due to maintenance and that wifi was also not working properly, but could use the conference room if we wanted to connect.. had to stand in the car park to get signal. Very dissatisfied. On check out , spoke our concerns where we were told that they hadn't been there long, gave us a list of reasons why things were not working.. not my problem. Paid $171 for the 2 things we wanted but didn't get. Ssid they would get Vodafone to credit us $30 for data.... I'm with spark. Took at least 20 minutes they then said they would pay us $50 . Sorry... could have got a room with no view, road noise and no pool or wifi for $60. Not recommend this place until they know what they are doing.

And unfortunately the little things were all bad. We were booking as a group so there were a few changes, but the hotel stopped replying to emails, as if they just gave up.
We were told we could have secure parking for our motorbikes, but that was not the case. They blamed ex staff for the miscommunication even though it was clear we had been communicating with the owner.
The heater didn't work in the room, but they did give us a replacement.
The spa was brown and had an off smell to it, with the cover deteriorating so much it was leaving particles floating in the spa. We were given several different explanations as to why the spa was in such a state.
Then, to top it off, although they knew how many were staying in our room and had already given me a price, they tried to charge an extra $40. The room we had did not have any views, although this is stated in their website.

There was more, but this review is already long enough.

Poor, poor service and we were all made to feel like unwelcome guests.

We paid $350 at peak time for a non-refundable executive studio, however, this room had no air conditioning and at 29-30 degrees celsius, it forced us to have the door open and fan on full, and the road noise interfered with TV viewing as the volume was preset. Sky TV consisted of movie channels only, and the decor is very dated (cracked tiles and shower, dispenser toiletries etc). But what was most upsetting, is on the day we arrived the moteliers were having a major altercation with a large group which resulted in the motelier telling them what she thought, and another altercation with a lady trying to verify why she wasn't able to access her room at 4.30pm the following day, was not handled well either. When we approached them about our concerns upon departure we were confronted with a defensive and confrontational attitude and the motelier walked away. A language barrier and lack of concern for how their guests feel and how this could be improved, left us feeling compelled to write our first review ever! The photos certainly do not match the reality or the 4 star rating. This should be budget price, reflecting the upkeep and presentation.

Would have been a four star if wasn’t for the ants. Made hot chocolate’s after a long drive to Taupo and checked in to a very expensive $380NZD a night around 6pm. Went to dinner around 7:30pm - mugs were left out for less than 3.5 hours and we arrived home to a bunch of ants all over the sink and dining table. Management did try to help by spraying with fly spray and wiping up the dead ants. When asked in the morning if we would receive any compensation we were met with a bunch of blame and unwillingness to help or negotiate. Spa bath was great and it’s a convenient location - probably won’t stay

I had madee a booking 2 weeks prior to arrival and the other two couples had booked their rooms 6 weeks in advance. It had been arranged that they could drop of there bike gear on arrival but could not have the rooms until after 3pm. After leaving men at V8 car track we proceeded to Chantilly's. Apparantly new owners with wife managing reception. She got very heated that we arrived early (9am) and said she had no bookings for us and could we leave as she was unable to do her work. We asked her numerous times about have we a booking but she kept yelling at us to go so we left a cell phone number and asked her to ring once she was sorted. Two hours later she did ring to say she did have rooms for the other two couples but not for me but had organised a place a couple of blocks away that could take my booking. I proceeded there and paid for room. At 2pm we returned to Chantillys to book in the other two couples but she became non commital that she had rooms and started ranting that because of us turning up early she had been unable to do her work even though we hadnt been there for 4 and a half hours. She continuously ignored us and on talking to others there booking in stories were not as bad but mentioned how rude she is. The worst bit is she called out my name as she did have a room available for me but I did not wish to support her establishment. If you want a stressfree weekend this is not the place.

My partner and my self and 3 children oldest been 11 and youngest been 7. Booked in for 6 nights on a business trip costing more than $1500. Rooms are nice dont get me wrong. But the last night of staying. At around 10pmx yes that quite late. But my partner and I went outside for a smoke and chatting like normal couples do. Well 2o minutes later the owner popped his head over the fence saying we were to loud. The thing is we were just talking, we weren't even loud like seriously we were just talking. He then told us to go back inside. Out of respect we went back inside. Literally 1 minute later my elder son was in the double bedroom watching t.v with the curtains open. He then yelled out saying the owner was peeping through the fence looking through the window. My son was in the room alone. Now that is quite disgusting. Breach of privacy. We were not loud at all. But the fact that he was peeping through the window looking right through the bedroom my son was in. I didnt not like that one bit. That's was so disgusting on the owners part. Not professional at all
We were not doing anything wrong. Afraid to fart incase he comes over saying that's to loud no good. For goodness sake. I would not recommend this motel to anybody. Specially if you have children, they could be too loud. Never coming back here. And I will be sharing this experience with everybody. I my self ran a motel my self. This is not on at all
Very very disgusting. That was rude, very rude.

Do you have spa bath separate from bed room? If yes, is it a studio room?
Answer from Brenda M

I'm sure they do... The complex is quite new, so I think when it was designed the architect would have thought of that. My room ( I stay at least 1 night a month) the bathroom is separate from the bedroom . The rooms are big , very very clean, I love staying here
