I have just seen a review by Justplanemad and everything they said I agree with except
1. There are two carports for each property, only one is numbered though
2. For what you pay the kitchen is fine, if you're cooking cordon posh, not the place
3. Having more than one place to sit in the lounge was appreciated. I've stayed in places that are bigger with only one couch, no other chair
4. The extractor fans are loud, so we used the other light and left the windows open
5. The upstairs TV is fuzzy but was a surprise and we did watch a movie on it.
6. Its an easy flat amble to town along the lakefront
7. There are many restaurants close by, the pub around the corner has a lovely garden bar, does excellent cocktails and ok pub food
8. We thought one bedroom two bathroom was a real bonus and the sunny bedroom, French doors and balcony, again lovely.

We like space and at 70 m2 it's way bigger than a motel unit. It's not super flash and the downstairs space is tight for two couples if the 2nd bedroom was unlocked.

However you would have a bathroom each and some privacy the way it's laid out.

If you like to get out to do things and eat, then this is great value for money.

I am a sales rep spending 8-12 hours on the road, I also have RA most important is warmth, Great bed, hot shower, Quiet.
I stay in Taupo every 4 weeks and have stayed almost every where, I thought I had stayed in the best already ... I was wrong !! Now I have stayed in the best.
Receptionist was absolutely lovely, She had my room heating turned on and all invoices ready to go. Unltd wifi bonus. Room 16 I am in . Drive in carport under my apartment it's huge. Through the front door up a staircase, smells clean, another staircase and I am in the lounge and kitchen area, beautifully set out inc a dishwasher and yum biscuits, Large TV with sky!.
Another staircase yes it's 3 levels high, I was upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment.
Bedroom on left 2 single beds, door to bathroom, down hall to my room with a king size bed and another TV.. air cond in bedroom and lounge areas.
The bed has electric blankets..!
A beautiful concrete deck off main room
Second level has a front door, I used the internal door from garage. It's 4pm I'm so warm and cosy... time for a grandad nap..
I think I might order food in
Oh it has another toilet downstairs
It would be criminally wrong to tell you how much I paid! It was so well priced,
There is a reason the no vacancy sign is on , because for a few of us we know the secret of this gem!!

We hired a two bedroom apartment from Friday 14th March 2014, - Sunday 16th March. As soon as I arrived for check in, I was greeted by a man in his 60s who didn't say a word as I entered into reception. I thought nothing of it until I gave him my name and told him I was there to check in and the first words that came out of his mouth were 'you must be checking into 'Courtney Motel'. He then walked off and left me to check in with another lady appeared from a back door of reception. I later discovered that Courtney Motel was the 3 star place right next door & not the 4.5 star apartment I had chosen to book. I was disgraced at the thought that he chose to be so narrow minded & judge a book by it's cover and assume I was not worthy of paying for a 4.5 star quality accommodation. What a shame he made what was suppose to be a great experience one I will never forget for the wrong reasons. Other then this man making me feel very uncomfortable from the start, the on site facilities were fantastic, we loved our room, especially the comfortable beds & the lovely cleaner who stopped by on Saturday to clean our suite & gave us some great tips on what to do in Taupo. I will not return based on this one man's poor, prejudiced mind. I don't expect to pay $400+ on two nights accommodation to be treated like this.

Disgusting and not worth $530 a night...do not pay over $250 max
The minute we arrived we were treated with terrible service. The reception area stinks of old cigarette smoke, i was greeted by a tiny dog that barked and growled at me.
The manager was completely rude and not welcoming at all, we arrived and someone was in our carpark so we parked next to it and she was over to us immediately to tell us off as if it was our fault.
We walked into the apartment and it was old, worn and filthy.
The sheets were dirty, the spare blankets stink and were filthy with brown stains, there was hair in the basin, ripped wall paper, all the cutlery and plates were filthy, outdoor table and chairs stained and rusty, stains on the indoor table and chairs, bench top filthy, the very tiny swimming pool had a dead bird that had not been removed the list goes on.
The place was so dirty we had to go and ask for a vacuum to clean it ourselves as the apartments have no cleaning gear in there, she then told my husband off for parking in carpark number one when it was just so he could stop and talk to her after being to the supermarket.

I approached the manager to express my concerns and was basically told it is a 4.5 star and that's what you get, she was not interested in helping me out at all.

I told her we did not need the portacot that was left taking up space and could it be collected from our room to be told she can not carry it, there is no one there to help and if we want it out my husband should go and take it to her (in the torrential rain).

We then went and asked if we could leave early due to not being happy, having had a very long trip from up north we do not wish to stay in a apartment that is not what it is advertised as and she was not willing to help.
The neighbours next to us felt exactly the same way with the state of their apartment.
The Washing machine and drier don’t even work properly.
Our daily service consisted of someone changing our bath mat and rubbish bin, no vacuum,
no new towels, no wiping anything down, no new soaps, no vacuum nothing.
The place is full of old leaves and they get blown inside everytime you open the door surely part of a service is to vacuum them up and if not then each apartment should be fitted with its own vacuum so guests can do their own cleaning.

There is no way this apartment should be priced at $530 a night, it is nowhere near worth it and even after the stay when we approached the owner and manager the replying was terrible, they didnt care at all and tried to say there was no evidence of any of our issues.
DONT stay here...thats my advice

The hotel staff were very friendly and made checking in and out a pleasant experience. We stayed in a large 3 bedroom unit with outdoor space that included a patio with table, small lawn, BBQ, and access to the little pool. These were the positives! Now for the negatives and reason I would not recommend this place unless great changes are made to the cleaning regime. Besides the upstairs bathroom and main floor toilet, our condo was filthy! It had been spot cleaned at best for likely the whole winter, maybe longer... With small children running around, I actually used a bottle of vinegar to wipe down the outside of the kitchen cupboards/handles, appliances, and the light switches as it was worth the effort for our 3 day stay. Our joke was that the next guests would think the kitchen and living room were really clean because they looked better after our stay! If our friends had not planned to meet us, and we didn't need the space, I would likely have requested a different unit but I could not find a larger condo on line when I looked ahead of travelling to NZ so this was where it was at for us.

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay at Quest Taupo. Your feedback assists us in improving the experience our guest encounter. Based on your experience, we have reviewed the cleaning fluids that our housekeeping team use. We have sourced a new product that will leave less residue on the cleaned surfaces. I do apologise that on this occassion we did not meet with our usually high standards, but rest assured we have now acted on your review and made improvements.

Located minutes from the lake and about 8-10 min walk to the city centre it is conveniently located. However over the 4 days we stayed the apartment was not cleaned, towels that were clearly wet or needed changing were hung back on the rail. Finger nail clippings and lolly wrappers (from past guests) were found behind the sofa by my one year old niece. We did get some mixed service from reception, the south African lady was super friendly and helpful whilst the other lady was not and the worse thing is she made us feel terrible asking to change towels. There is a large rock placed as you come out of the car park which is placed there so drivers
don't drive on the grass, beware of this you cannot see this rock and you may damage your car, when we offered suggestions to put up something less descrutive instead the not so friendly
receptionist did the utmost to be so defensive that no one else had done this ( though we checked the next day and there was tyre skid marks all around the rock and mud around it) what was strange is that they place that rock there so they don't want cars driving on it the receptionist who was so rude parked her car on the grass herself.

Thank you for taking the time to pass your feedback, we do appreciate your time is valuable. I have looked into the issues that lead to the slip in our high housekeeping standards during your stay and have implemented a change to our quality contol, to avoid such occurances in the future. I do apologise for this oversight. With regards to the rock you have mentioned, this is located on the City Council owned Grass road berm, and has been placed there by the council to prevent vehicles from driving onto the grass. We have raised your concerns with the Council. I do hope we can welcome you back to Quest Taupo in the future to demonstrate the improvements undertaken. All the best.

Another 3 days at these great apartments. Always clean and well appointed with a large bedroom and kingsize bed upstairs with spa bath and a smaller bedroom downstairs with two single beds in it. A comfy lounge/kitchen downstairs with parking outside the unit.

This was the perfect stay for us. We had a two bedroom apartment which was huge. The greeting at reception was friendly and welcoming after a long day driving. We felt really looked after by Cherri who ensured we were provided with enough information to make the most out of the time we had in Taupo. The room had all the essential to make our stay comfortable. Thenkitchen was well equipped, the only thing I can think to improve would be the small fridge and make it bigger. We would recommend this accommodation to any couple who likes a lot of space.
