It’s no wonder this place has held the #1 spot, from the moment you arrive Garth and Angie make you feel like you never want to leave!! As both UX designers, it’s hard to argue that they’ve got their customer journey down to the tee! Tucked away in the stunning woodlands a short drive from the town centre & around the corner from the famous W2K trail, everything about this place has an idyllic cosy lodge atmosphere. From the warm hospitality, delicious canapés & three course breakfast, there’s not many stays I can say we’ve had that have been “faultless”. Angie and Garth offer a world of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm that makes the stay that much more special & worth every minute. Highly recommend for romantic getaways or to top off the perfect Taupo experience. Looking forward to our next return, Richard & Tatum. P.S, still wondering what made Angie’s homemade muesli sooo good!!

Thanks so much, Richard & Tatum, for your heartwarming review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward very much to your return. Warmest regards, Angie & Garth , Whakaipo Lodge. PS: The muesli recipe is on the website...reckon the secret is the milk powder, which gives it extra crunch!

We wanted a relaxing quiet weekend, and we couldn’t have asked for more. Garth and Angie were the hosts with the best service and personalities ever! They went the extra mile with absolutely everything, nothing was a problem and the interaction with them was wonderful. Lodge was beautiful, food was amazing and canapés and drinks at night with others, superb. Top class in every respect. Thank you from the bottom our hearts to you both. We will be back for sure. Thank you to Angie & Garth. We had a lovely weekend with delicious gourmet dinner & home made breakfast complete with fresh fruit salads, jams, pastries and made to order barrister coffee, bacon & eggs. Our room was very comfortable and the garden surrounds with mature trees is beautiful and relaxing. Garth organised a very successful trout fishing experience for us , & even smoked a trout for canipes to share with our fellow guests & new friends. Wonderful hosts, a relaxing setting, & great food. We look forward to coming back. Brendan &Michaela

Thank you to Garth and Angie for a most lovely stay! We took advantage of the ultimate bike package that was on the Lodge website and added an extra night to allow us to ride all of the Great Lake trails without feeling rushed. Everything from the start to finish of our time at Whakaipo was wonderful, starting from communication, greeting us on arrival, the cosy classical bedroom and guest lounge, the famous nightly wine selection and canapés, delicious breakfasts and dinner and last but definitely not least, the hospitality of Garth and Angie. We especially would like to thank Garth for his Great Lakes trail expertise which gave us a good insight into what to expect each day on each of the different trails, where to take extra precaution and his positivity that we could actually bike the trails successfully with our ancient leg powered bikes! He organised all our shuttles and when our water taxi was cancelled due to wind, he ensured we managed to experience as much of the ride as we could before picking us up. Garth also saved the day twice by supplying a wheel nut when we lost ours, and ensuring our safety by detouring to retrieve our bike helmets when I had a senior moment and forgot to pack them. This was our first boutique B and B stay and we really enjoyed the experience of chatting with Garth and Angie in the evenings, during our wine matched delicious dinner and at breakfast time on the outside patio as we discussed the day’s upcoming activities. We think the ethos that Whakaipo Lodge champions New Zealand services, products and produce is great and think it’s fitting that Garth and Angie themselves are NZ hospitality champions! We wish Whakaipo Lodge and Garth and Angie all the best for the future!

We stayed with Garth and Angie for 2 nights. They are excellent hosts - there when you need them and unobtrusive when you don't. The Lodge and the surroundings were wonderfully relaxing. The breakfasts were lovely - served outside in the morning sun. We also had dinner there one night and the food was delicious - all beautifully served on lovely china and cutlery. We particularly enjoyed the generous pre dinner drinks and canapes outside under the trees, and Garth and Angies company .

We spent a couple of nights at this fabulous Lodge. Our hosts, Angie and Garth, were just lovely - nothing was too much trouble and they were so interesting to spend time with and talk to. The facilities are great and we had the best nights sleep in a long time in a very comfortable room. Sitting in the lounge or garden and sharing canapes with the fabulous classical music was so calming. The breakfast was amazing and their assistance in booking us one of the best boat trips we've ever been on was great too. We would certainly recommend this to all discerning travellers.

This lodge was too great to be kept a secret. From arrival to departure we had the most wonderful time with the most hospitable host you could ever have. The accommodation was perfect, relaxing, friendly & exceptionally clean. The attention to detail was very much appreciated The hosts, Garth & Angie generously shared their immense local knowledge & activities available which has made us keen to return. The welcome drinks & home made canapes were much appreciated & enjoyed. The breakfast was 10/10 - all produce was proudly sourced locally. Thank you Garth & Angie for a wonderful, memorable experience
