John and Barbara are excellent hosts with a wealth of local knowledge that helps to make a visit complete.The balcony room overlooking Taupo is the room of choice. We would try to stay with them if we visited Taupo region again.

We had the pleasure to stay 2 nighs at Acacia. Just 5 minute drive outside Taupo a beautiful house with views on the lake. The room we had was huge, with a separate bedroom and ensuite bathroom. Everything was clean and well decorated. The hosts are friendly people. We had a good time staying at Acacia.

We stayed 5 nights in March in the penthouse room at this property. It is located across a bay from Taupo (about a 5 minute drive), and the room has fantastic views of the town and mountains. The room also a balcony, a huge bath with separate shower and large whirlpool tub, and a walk in closet-dressing room. The home itself is directly on the Lake Taupo with a small beach and beautiful flower gardens. John and Barbara are gracious hosts who shared their extensive knowledge of the local attractions, hikes and restaurants. They also serve a delicious and large hot and cold breakfast. We recommend highly staying at Acacia Bay.

I could not believe this place! It's description on the internet is totally false. It is an old, cheaply built suburban house, which happens to be located by the lake. It recently had a name change from Paeroa luxury lodge to Acacia Bay lakefront luxury lodge. We have stayed in many backpacker accommodation which is far superior to this place for around NZ$60/night. At NZ$360/night it is an absolute rip off, which is more expensive than the Hilton! Do not be fooled by the internet description. When I arrived I thought the beautiful home next door was where I was going to. What a huge let down. If you want true luxury in Taupo I would suggest you contact the owners of Acacia Bay luxury lodge on Mapara road where we had a delightful stay and value for money.

We decided to book at Acacia Bay Lodge as a "spoil" at the end of our New Zealand trip. At $NZ320 per night, it was certainly more expensive than some other excellent places we'd stayed in both islands and also amongst the most expensive in Taupo. For the price, the stay was extremely disappointing. We stayed in the Penthouse Suite, which is up two flights of stairs. The suite has a large bathroom with the spa and a third room that serves as a large wardrobe. Unfortunately, all the storage space in this room was full of the owners’ spare linen and there were no racks for suitcases. The large spacious bathroom does not have a power point so it's not possible to run a hairdryer or an electric shaver. The kettle that is provided does not fit under the tap in the bathroom so you have to fill the kettle standing in the shower. The main room only has a straight-backed Queen Anne style settee so there is nowhere to sit in comfort and watch the antiquated 12-inch television. There is no phone and are no newspapers delivered. On the plus side, the bed is large and comfortable and the breakfasts are generous.
Overall, this is a suburban house turned into a bed-and-breakfast, it's clean and well kept and the host is very friendly, sitting down to breakfast with you every morning but it fails to deliver the standard that would be expected for the price.

The quality of the penthouse was of a very high standard with a balcony with a most breathtaking view over Lake Taupo.

This accomodation has amazing views from the rooms and is right near beautiful Taupo.
The couple are quite friendly and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. When coming back after having dinner out there was no where to park as the family were visiting. When we went to make a cup of tea there was no teaspoons at all.
The wifi did not work the entire time while we were there. In the morning we were woken up by the movement above as the kitchen area is above the bedroom downstairs.
The breakfast was average and the scrambled eggs were awful, cooked in the mirowave. We have travelled the North Island and had amazing accomodation at reasonable prices, in the case of this accomodation we decided to spend a little more to spoil ourselves. It failed to meet our expectations for the cost.

Wow! What a view across the bay from the room. Beautiful location outside Taupo, ideal base to explore the area. Superb quality B&B. Barbara and John made us most welcome throughout our stay. Highly recommended, a great place to stay.
