Detailed Reviews
This is a well positioned complex being across the road from the lake and within an easy walk to the township of Taupo.
The complex has many facets to it. Providing bikes , kayaks, mini golf, tennis, squash courts , swimming pool and spas. There is always something to do.

Lots to do in Taupo, lovely units and staff. The room were a really nice size and the beds were really comforable. Loved the spa pool in the private courtyard. Handy having a BBQ in the yard as well.

The 3 bedroom unit we had was spacious and great for a family weekend holiday to Taupo. Love the lake view and easy walk to town and access to Sunday market. There are plenty of activates to keep the family entertained. My chilren loved the spa and indoor heated pool. There is 2 pool tables, table tennis. I wish we can get this place but in summer next so we can enjoy kayaking in the lake.

Right from when we made the booking to our actual stay, every aspect of the point villas exceeded our expectations. When we booked they were flexible with our check in and check out times and as we were staying for more than 3 days we were given a reduced rate. When we arrived we couldn't believe the setting...it was truely magnificent...nestled in amongst the bush and overlooking the most beautiful bay with a small island in the middle offset against blue green waters. Just across from us were Tennis courts and all around us wonderful bush tracks leading down to the rocks, little beaches and old moari caves. The environment is filled with native bush, plants and birdlife. We were able to kayak around the rocks with kayaks provided. The Villas themselves were first class.....tasteful interiors, beautiful furniture, the most comfortable beds...absolutely everything felt luxurious. The bathrooms were a feature in themselves...fully glassed and looking into the bush or a rock waterfall. Our kids had a fantastic time on the beaches, in the kayaks and exploring the bush tracks. The views over the whole estate are just the thing to leave you feeling inspired. We will definately be going back to re experience what was a very special experience.

I was looking for a place in Taupo for a family of 2 with 2 kids and for my parents that were coming from Europe down to New Zeland to enjoy the nature and really relax around a lake.
If you look into the rest of website you'll find another review that I just posted regarding a place in the Cook Islands. The deal with my parents was to stay 4-5 days in NZ to enjoy the nature and rest after the trip from Europe and then go to the Cook to have the warm weather (which can be a bit of a problem in NZ).
Choosing the Point Villas was a bit of a luck and a lot of looking around on the Internet. We wanted something with privacy so not really a hotel (also because of the kids) with nice views, close to the lake with possibilities of trout fishing and not to far to the city for out dinners.
For us the Point villas were perfect. They are brand new villas with state of the art equipment and architecture, sublime views of the nature around (of course the lake views are stunning but the bathrooms with garden views like in Japan are amazing). They are located in the most exclusive private development around Taupo (we got that from the real estate agents in town looking at prices of property there) where sections are in the million plus range and houses in the 2 million plus meaning you have security and access to tennis canoes...the villas are stocked which means that you get everything for breakfast but you need to put them on the table. We were happy not to have staff as long as we didn't need to go to the supermarket all the time and that was great because everything is very well executed.
The weather was a bit cold (August in Taupo is right the middle of winter) but everything in the house is cosy for winter with warm fireplaces and good heating/insulation. Wes till could go trout fishing down (5 minutes walk in the bush) from the place
I would completely recommend the point villas. Perfect spot, perfect ambiance (maybe even better in summer for the other activities like swimming, waterskiing and kayaking on the lake). We have already booked them for January !

We were greeted by Peg Bull on our arrival, the hospitality was unforgettable as was the Villa. It made our visit to New Zealand a truly memorable one.
The Villa is fabulous, well appointed and perfectly situated for a wonderful stay in Lake Taupo.
There is great attention to detail throughout the Villa, from the moment we walked in we knew that we were in for a memorable stay. We enjoyed our stay so much we were lucky enough to be able to stay an extra night.
Peg went out of her way to ensure that not only our stay at the Point Villas but our whole trip to New Zealand was an unforgettable experience.
I would recommend the Villas to anyone looking to experience New Zealand at it best. We would love to return to the Villas.

Excellent resort - one bed unit doesn't have its own spa but the 3 onsite spas and pool more than make up for this. Good onsite parking for boats and the fish cleaning table a great extra for successful trout fishermen [and fisherwomen] ! Suggest some speed bumps are required as some of the guests do not understand the 5kmh rule - a potential accident waiting to happen :-(

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Taupo & the wonderful accommodation at The Point Villas. Peg was so wonderful and is such a lovely person. Was very impressed with the amenities and enjoyed the lap pool!!! Beautiful sunrises and sunsets overlooking Acacia Bay. Wow!!! I recently stayed there and also attended the Summer Concert in Taupo. Would absolutely love to visit again next year, Danielle.S (Auckland).

We again spent another wonderful few days at Villa 1. Everything was ready for us on our arrival, breakfast provisions in the fridge and the pool looking very inviting. We did a lot of attractions in and around taupo that we hadn't visited before but always coming home to villa 1 was again the highlight of our stay. Thank you Peg for everything it was wonderful.

We booked for 3 nights in early March. A couple of days before we arrived we called to ask if we could extend (in Villa 1) for an extra night. We were told no, it was booked. We were offered Villa 2 and said we would view it on arrival before deciding. We decided against Villa 2. It is not as good in our opinion.
We were amazed to find the owner, Peg Bull, had charged us for the extra night. She absolutely refused to refund the charge and became very agitated and aggressive, delivering us a lecture about her cancellation policy. While she agreed she had "presumed" we would take the extra night, she simply would not accept she had made an error. We were surprised by the very unprofessional tirade and behaviour. And we regretted that we had handed over our credit card details so trustingly.
There was no booking for the 4th night and she acknowledged that. She just would not accept that Villa 2 was inferior to Villa 1. It became a point if honour with her. We had viewed it from the deck and (very small) pool area as it was largely visible from outside and the view is very much obstructed by Villa 1 in front.
Not a great start to a stay. We had issues with maintenance (the fire did not work, several light fittings were not working etc) and they were not fixed during our stay. Annoying and disappointing. Villa 1 was well decorated and furnished. And well provisioned.
The Villas are a 10 minute drive to town so you absolutely need a car. They are located in a gated estate where there are many rental properties. We paid $750/night for Villa 1 and thought that about the right price.
We found Lake Taupo lovely. There is an enormous amount of good quality accomodation available.
We travel 6 months of the year and are pretty familiar with how things work. Our experience with Peg Bull was a first. It was odd to hear her both acknowledge she had just presumeD we would approve Villa 2 and then refuse to reverse her error. And bizarre to get a lecture about her cancellation policy when there had been no confirmed booking. We decided to let our credit card company deal with her and investigate and decide what was fair and how to proceed. They very promptly refunded the charge after evaluating the claims from both sides.

Response from The-Point-Villas, Owner at The Point Villas
Responded 20 Apr 2015
Hi It's Peg here, I’m the owner of the Point Villas. You are raising a few things here and I feel it’s important to address your overall statements which are not correct. Firstly regarding the additional nights' booking. When you asked for the additional nights' booking, there was no ambiguity that you might not be staying and that you wanted to view it first. Your call came during Taupo’s IronMan weekend, one of the busiest and booked out weekends in Taupo. In light of this, I clearly communicated to you that we had a 30 day 100% cancellation policy and you said you understood. It’s disappointing therefore to see you wrongly communicate in your review that the booking was simply a presumption on my part. Had I believed it to be a presumption I would not have closed out the dates on our website. I also feel it is important to address your other comments to ensure an accurate representation of the Villas and its management to other viewers. In your opinion Villa 2 is not as good as Villa 1. As I know you didn’t see inside Villa 2, I feel it is important to highlight for others the unique aspects of each. They both are identically appointed but each have their own relative strengths and appeal to different clientele depending on their needs, Villa 1 does sit close to the water however Villa 2 has both an upstairs & downstairs, additional bedroom, views of the lake and an alfresco outdoor dining area. Villa 2 is chosen as many times as Villa 1 and our reviews confirm people equally love both. Regarding your complaints about a couple of things not working. As part of our meet & greet, the fireplace was started in front of you and was working at the time of check in. It is unfortunate that it later stopped working and that our maintenance manager was unable to fix it on the spot. He did try but unfortunately an electrician was needed and unavailable over the weekend. He couldn't find any of the light fitting issues you are referring to when he inspected the property. Lastly you refer to management. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile to give all our guests the very best experience in a beautiful private environment. Indeed many of our reviews highlight the very personalized service they receive at the Villas as distinct strength. Thanks Peg
