The Lake Taupo Lodge is one of those places that can exist only through the vision and hard work of someone who cares about providing guests with an extraordinary experience from start to finish. Gary, the proprietor of the Lodge is one of those rare people. Gary and his wife have led full, active lives with wide experiences around the world. They have brought that experience to bear in the creation of their amazing Frank Lloyd Wright inspired lodge, warmly and beautifully furnished, with breathtaking views. They have thought of every detail. Those things that most impact your comfort—bedding, privacy, and climate control are top of the line. You are served delightful appetizers with a select NZ wine before dinner, in a room you wish was your own living room. Gary’s staff is…
A simply stunning lodge with gorgeous views over Lake Taupo. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc we knew the service would be second to none and it was truly amazing. The attention to detail was incredible, our room was beautiful and the breakfasts were possibly the best we have ever had, created by chef Chris. Gary was the perfect host making all our restaurant and taxi bookings for us.
From the moment we arrived we were enchanted by the quality of the lodge and the friendliness of the hosts. Gary looked after us superbly ensuring at all times we had what we wanted, arranging excursions and restaurants. The breakfast was fantastic provided by Chris. Very relaxing and sorry to leave; we will return. Allan and Shirley
What a fantastic place, an owner who is really interested in his visitors, gives great advises what to visit , when and even makes the arrangements. Assisted by a great cook who makes your breakfast as you want it. Unfortunately we were only with 4 guest, if you are with more he even makes you also dinner. The lodge has a very personal style, a bit special but it feels like a home and not a impersonal hotel. If ever we would come back to Taupo I would definitely stay there again Thanks Gary, Chris and all other staff

There is NOTHING luxury about it and it is not a lodge. For the price, it was a honestly the worst value we have ever experienced. The owner certainly means well. He tours the guests, offers them a drink & canapes. The chef was a jolly man too who certainly tried to please. However the house itself is old, and feels very 70's /tired. The decor is incredibly dated and has no charm at all. Unsophisticated. Both rooms literally felt like motel rooms sadly. It was…
