Detailed Reviews
Ashleigh is the conference and sales manager. She is amazing, great communication and nothing is a problem.
From our first meeting, and then on line discussions, Ashleigh was an absolute joy to deal with. Nothing seemed a problem, even with the muck around nearer the time regarding numbers etc.
The venue is incredible, and very reasonably priced for what you get (actually unbelievable), and most importantly the location and view of the lake.
The staff on the night were a credit to the business. So easy to deal with and professional, and we would have been a challenge, as we and most of our guests had become a wee bit excited earlier in the day.
The food was outstanding and amazing value, with such a beautiful setting, not just outside, but the room looked stunning and catered for us all perfectly.
We could not think of a better place to have had our pre-wedding dinner, it exceeded all of our expectations.
We cannot thankyou enough.

The hotel is situated outside of the city centre of taupo right on the lake with most rooms having fantastic views of the lake. We had a ground floor room with a lovely patio to sit out on to enjoy the view. We didn’t eat at the hotel but it has two restaurant options with good menus. The hotel is about a 30minute walk into the town centre but is relatively flat and we made use of electric scooters which you can hire around the town.

booked a weekend away for anniversary and hotel was one of the more expensive ones on booking.com and was def not worth the money. Found a used sanitary towel placed back into a cup wrapped up next to the sink in bathroom.
No mini bar, no food being served during day so had to walk to nearest service station for a snack. View was good and staff were polite. But not value for money

+1
My partner and our 2 daughters (1 year old and 3 year old) checked in on the 5th August 2020. We stayed in a Superior King Room with a Lakeview. (Our room looked nothing like the photos on the website very deceiving)
The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
We got told that the bar and restaurant were closed when we checked in which we didn't mind as the hotel was conveniently close to restaurants and shops.
When we arrived the entrance to the hotel was very inviting with a beautiful chandelier hanging in the center of the lobby. However the entrance to where our room was located was not inviting at all, it looked like a motel rather then a hotel/resort.
Our room had amazing views as the lake was right outside our door, we watched the sunset but it can get annoying having alot of the public members jogging and walking outside, not much of a privacy.
Our room was overcrowded with too many furniture and lots of frames hanging on the wall , also the furniture was very outdated, including the tv.
The bathroom had a spa bath which was a great feature for adding lots of bubbles to the water which our daughters loved. However the shower was very small and the shower head was positioned in a awkward position so when we turned on the shower it would squirt everywhere.
I absolutely loved the bed. The bed and pillows were super comfy , the blankets on our bed was the perfect blankets for winter , thick and warm.
The pool area was not very welcoming but the grotto spa pool was a highlight for me, I loved how private it was and it had a unique , nature feel definitely a must when staying at the hotel
The gym and sauna were very small
Plenty of parking space (free)
Overall not up to the other Millennium Hotels standard, needs alot of upgrading and refurbishing but the staff make the stay enjoyable and make you feel comfortable.

Response from Brad Davidson, General Manager at Millennium Hotel And Resort Manuels

Hi TFanualelei, Thank you for your comments for for choosing to stay with us. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the views, bed and grotto - the grotto sure is a treat and very popular! Sorry to hear that you thought that the room was cluttered and that you found the entrance to the room uninviting. Whilst the layout of the hotel is more like a "motel" this is so that we can take full advantage of our lakefront location and offer stunning lakeviews from most of our rooms and dining areas. We have noted your comments regarding the bathroom and facilities so that they can be addressed in the future. Many thanks, Brad Davidson Executive Assistant Manager

I can only echo some of the negative comments made by other reviewers and say for me the negatives outweigh the positives. Although rooms face directly onto the bay they are the smallest rooms we’ve seen in New Zealand and our enjoyment of our balcony was spoilt by other guests playing loud music on theirs. I agree rooms heat up in the sun but the old fashioned air conditioning did seem to work although it was too noisy to leave on overnight. The shower floods the bathroom and the phone didn’t work. Rooms are dated but clean. The receptionist was very pleasant although we weren’t offered a welcoming drink as one reviewer has suggested and no one offered help with luggage. The little tour of the facilities was good if limited. We still don’t know what the grotto is.
The biggest disappointment was the Edgewater Restaurant. The food is mediocre although it is billed as fine dining and the level of service is the worst we’ve seen here. There are lots of staff moving around but it is all ineffectual. As we didn’t order wine as soon as we were asked about it it became a real issue trying to get some. The wine waitress never came back, one waitress said we had to wait for the wine waitress and the third request was met with abruptness that verged on the rude. Quite a lot of passive aggressive tone of voice to suggest she didn’t see why I thought I was having a problem ordering a drink. Mains arrived and were nearly banged on the table with little conversation and the extra vegetables didn’t arrive. It was hard to explain to the manager how a trivial incident of forgotten vegetables had become a major one because no one seemed willing to address it properly, we had already had problems and the passive aggressive response from the same waitress came out again. Ate hot vegetables with cooled down mains. We then heard her complaining about the situation to her colleague. Plenty of topping up of water but no queries about whether we would like another drink. This is not a quality dining experience, the hotel is tired and it’s poor value

A well located hotel right on Lake Taupō. The hotel and rooms are nicely decorated and feel very cosy. We were very disappointed by the housekeeping services however. It took until very late in the afternoon for the room to be serviced and even then it was a very poor job, for example the bed sheets had just been pulled up, and the blanket roughly thrown on top. The pillows not even touched. There were several other issues throughout the room as well. One of the luxuries of a hotel over Airbnb is returning to a freshly cleaned and serviced room, and here I don’t feel they are delivering that

I could not recommend Millennium more, the location is amazing. The resort is stylistically designed, has a modern and clean feeling all around the place. The price is so reasonable for the facilities offered. The grotto is a must use when staying here. The pool was a nice dip after a steamy half hour in the grotto. The staff were cheerful, helpful and professional. The breakfast addition was not a let down, delicious food and coffee/tea offered on arrival. I will be making a point to come here with my partner next. Thanks guys!

Its been a while since we stayed here, and we will be back, great location, stylish hotel bar and cosy rooms.
Room:
Our room was spotless, bed was super comfy, they are not large rooms but they open out onto the lakefront so on a nice day you can use the outside space. AC was very good as we were there on a cold night. Shower was well worn and needed to be replaced/updated, bathroom was clean but tired looking. Main room pretty spotless.
Staff:
The staff were very good, helpful and eager to please, the bar is very cool, some cocktail knowledge is needed to really take the experience to the next level.
Room service:
Fast and very good, cant fault this
Parking:
Easy and convenient

This place is nice enough in terms of the view and facilities but the room itself was pretty small for what we were paying, only space for one person to sit anywhere other than on the bed, noisy from the main road behind the rooms (could do with some decent sound proofing), and small bed. Nice bar and pool, weird grotto which we thought was a hot pool but not really (though some other guests quite liked it). There was a function one day/night there that meant there was nowhere to park in their grounds so had to leave the car down the road overnight.

Unexpected stopover in Taupo was rewarded by a very comfortable room, stunning views and the best hapuka steak ever. And the walk way around the lake was just outside my room. Highly recommend the hotel and the restaurant

The beds weren’t hard. Just medium. But I guess it’s a personal feel of what’s medium or soft.
I’m sure they will accommodate your luggage if not your request to arrive early. Very helpful and secure so won’t be an issue
Yes it is open to all. I would book so as not to be disappointed. Lucky you enjoy
