Tired and run down motel where the irony of the name was not lost on us. Immediately after check in we had to call reception to come and clean (reclean?) the bathroom floor, shower base and toilet which were littered with thick black hairs. The bed was uncomfortable, the toilet button broken and overall was just really disappointing given the price. Good parking but so many better options nearby.

Very comfortable accommodation with garden access. Daily room service if you want to, all staff very friendly and happy to assist. We had ants in kitchen after 2 days and straightaway was resolved. Clean up immediately and sprayed. The next business day professional was spraying all around hotel. Happens. We are from Australia and we know that ants are normal and often it’s natural situation with easy fix. If you ever have situation like that please don’t blame owners. It’s nature. Rooms very clean, bathroom clean and fresh. Quiet around place. Walking distance to restaurants and local shops.

I have reviewed this motel in the past and am reviewing it again because it has deteriorated in quality since our last stay; in spite of 'quality' being in its title. We had a one bedroom unit and we were so disappointed. The double bed was in the living area and it should have been in the bedroom. The TV and microwave were difficult to operate - gave up on the microwave. Instead found a portable 2 element electric plug in; like something you would use if you were camping - not that you would be able to plug it in! Picture attached. This appliance was balanced precariously on a very small bench and there I tried to poach an egg using a frying pan that was not fit for purpose - the non stick had come off in parts. Very unhealthy; picture attached. No hooks in the bathroom to hang your towel which was placed on a high shelf. Not good if you were short. I will not stay here again and I see that others are of the same opinion. At $215 a night this was poor value for money…

Good Location, Clean room and good quality bath towels. Staff friendly Part of six and stayed in 2 rooms However both rooms are out! Carpet worn out and frayed. Double bed is a full size and the inter-spring mattress is terribly worn out. Sofa was covered with a small beach type blanket because it was very dirty and worn out Would not come back again. Recommend looking elsewhere

Wifi never worked in room.Rooms were pretty standard. Heather who managed the breakfast buffet was straight up racist and rude.We have been in NZ for 10 years and never faced such blatant racism. Not sure what ticked her off but from the first interaction to last over 2 days she was consistently rude. The male owner was also rude- overall stay was unwelcoming and super uncomfortable. Please do yourself a favour and avoid this place at all costs, just not worth it.Plenty of other stay options nearby.

We booked one night at the Acapulco Quality Inn in Taupo for 2 January 2023. On arrival we were given a dark corner unit with almost no natural light and no outlook of any kind. It felt like going into a cave. While the bathroom was fresh and clean and the bed was fine, the kitchen area was old and run down. Given we had paid $265.50 we were shocked by the standard of accommodation offered for that price, regardless of it being peak holiday season. Had we paid $165 we would have been disappointed but we would have accepted that was what our money had bought. However at $265 this was in no way value for money. We will not stay there again.

We were stopping in Taupo to visit friends on our North Island road trip and needed somewhere in town with no frills and not too expensive. We also wanted a place with cooking facilities in the room so we could save money by preparing our own meals. This place fit the bill nicely while only being a few hundred metres from Lake Taupo. We had a comfortable and good sized twin queen bed room for our family of three. The room was clean with new fittings and modern decor. I think a lot of places took advantage of the lull during boarder closures to upgrade, if they were able to keep the doors open that is. This place seemed to manage it by attracting trade contractors, couriers and even truck drivers out on the road which reinforced my impression of the place being good value for money. I had booked breakfast but as we decided to go out for breakfast with our friends I tried to get a refund. I was told that as got the room and breakfast deal through booking.com they were charged a 17% commission and would barely break even. Knowing this I was happy to miss their breakfast so they could save a bit on costs . The owner/operator staff are helpful and courteous so help them out by BOOKING DIRECTLY over the phone or through their website. This place is worthy of the consideration and they all need help to recover from the lockdown. And you can usually get the best deal despite’s the booking sites’ claims. I recommend this place and would back there if we ever visit Taupo again. PS It’s funny how you usually pay more for a hotel room with no kitchen than you would for a similar sized motel room with a kitchen. Hotel amenities and star rating don’t alway make up for this difference.…

Overnight stay after fortnight in Auckland and Waikato. Unit was toasty warm on arrival and has everything needed. Wet area shower which is a plus. Good parking outside unit. Walking distance to lakefront. As others have mentioned key system can take a little time to operate effectively.

Great place to stay, friendly helpful staff. Room was clean and very inviting arrived a little late lights and heater on very thankful as was a very cold evening. Awesome spa bath, great shower pressure and fluffy white towels. Great location easy walk to town.
