Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Partner took me here for 2 nights for my birthday. It was such a lovely get away. i loved it. We got a fairly decent sized room with a spa bath. It was middle of winter so the spa was a real treat. Huge huge bed although it was a funny in the middle - each side was fine. All in all great value for money. The spa bath was the selling point for us.

My wife and I stayed at this motel 18/19 May 2019. Unlike some of its more modern competitors, it does not have great road appeal. However, although elderly, its units are clean, well stocked and very comfortable. Proprietor and staff are very pleasant and helpful. It also has two disabled friendly units which would take a wheelchair. A continental breakfast is available and well worth partaking. All in all, we would have no hesitation in booking this one again.

Room Tip: Being set back from the main highway, it would offer a quieter stay than some on the Lake Terrace.

Great location to local restaurant, fish and chips and diary. Short drive into Taupo. Edwin was a great host - very friendly and happy to help. Room was serviced daily with new towels and bins emptied and if there were any dishes - these were washed too!!

I booked a family room for my almost-80-tear-old parents who were taking their grandchildren to Taupo. Three hours before they were due to arrive, they called the property to check on kitchen facilities in their room and were told they could not stay. Being school holidays, all of Taupo was booked out, so they had to cancel their trip.
I am only relieved that by sheer fluke my parents found out their booking was a sham before they made the 2.5 hour drive across the Desert Road in icy conditions. The owner/manager offered no explanation and clearly didn't give a sh#t.

Steer clear of these sharks, booked for 2 nights for 5 people on a long weekend they send me a text while we are half hour out of Taupo claiming they are overbooked!! We get there to find out what’s going on and their vacancy sign is out! No one prepared to front at reception, no answer when we tried to phone. And it’s up to me to arrange cancellation with booking.com! Long weekend ruined, money for kennels and petrol wasted.

This “accommodation provider” should be blacklisted from all booking sites.
When we were 1/2 an our from Taupo we received a txt to inform us our room had been cancelled. They wouldn’t front to reception or answer the phone. The whole of Taupo was booked out. We had planned an exciting weekend to show our German student the best of NZ. What she was shown instead is that NZers can’t be trusted🤬 Bookings for rafting and jet boating plus kennel costs for our dogs and no apologies offered.
Never stay here.

When dealing with my reservation, Gagan Singh was unbelievably rude. He kept cutting my calls after advising me that he cancelled my reservation VIA TEXT. After he picked after multiple calls, he tells me he doesn't want to talk to me. He then claims he was the owner and advised " I dont care what you post on social media", only to then have a kind lady pick up and make the situation better and sort my reservation out. While accomodation was fine, the behaviour and dealing from Gagan Singh will forever leave a foul taste of my experience at Rainbow Point motel.

Also known as Rainbow point motel
This property is used as emergency housing and then they must rent out rooms on here to people when they are empty.
Broken blinds means you can open them to let light in.
mold on the ceiling
broken power points
chipped paint and wholes in the wall
broken clock
missing light bulbs
burn marks all over the bathroom sink
old toothbrush in the drawer
empty soap dispenser
mismatches cheap furniture and bedding from the 80s
the fridge sounded like it was about to take off
It felt like a dirty outdated halfway house that the owners clearly don’t care about. They are probably making loads of money of housing NZ and clearly don’t care about private guests

We were sent here after Adelphi motels sent us here when they mucked up our booking. The 2 bedroom unit was being cleaned as we arrived but it was dirty and smelled of cigarettes. There was no soap, the dishes were dirty in the draw, but nothing else was vacant so we stayed. The neighbours kept odd hours and shouted, swore at 3am and 5am, having big arguments. I had to buy new pillows because the ones they had smelt like smoke. The heating was a sparky old fan heater that couldn't be left unattended. Just stay away from this one.

Last minute booking plus due to cycle event in Taupo all motels had no rooms available our last option was this Motel.host was nice but over price $165 for a room filled with spiders and cockroaches dead flies.was told room had king size bed but all night long leg was hanging out of the edge.really out dated room and bathroom.asked for Internet was given 100mb who gives 100mb of data to use for a night.bed is not great for people who has back injury or recovering from one will send you back to square one.returned the key next day and the guy at the reception wasn't bothered about our stay except took the key and walked away.
Wouldn't recommend this motel due to their lack of cleanliness.
Book your motel in advance to avoid the experience I had.
