Detailed Reviews
There is a lovely big warm pool & a big screen TV - the major draw card.
But it is very expensive for what you get. We paid $311 PER NIGHT for a cabin with an en-suite.
For the high price you don’t receive any house keeping except a deposit of clean towels on the table each day and removal of the wet ones. No vacuuming or anything else. I would have thought a quick 2 min vacuum each day would have been minimum service.
There are no changing facilities at the pool. Our cabin was nearly at opposite end of the grounds, so a long walk back when you’re wet. We were told if you leave the gated pool area there are changing rooms somewhere nearby.
The 3 toilet cubicles in the pool area smelt incredibly strongly of urine.
Hold onto your wristbands for dear life as they will charge you $20 for a replacement one.
It was very hot weather but the air conditioning in our cabin could not be “turned up” - obviously to save money by avoiding people putting the fan up beyond the lowest setting.
I know it was peak season and busy, but just be aware that for $311 per night, it’s pretty minimal in terms of what you actually get.

Our family stayed on a premium powered site over Easter weekend 2021. All throughout the process up until the actual weekend away the communication was good and the team were very helpful even with what I considered silly questions regarding power cables etc - they still responded in a friendly manner and even sent me links to where I could purchase if need be.
Check in was a breeze and when we arrived the campsite was probably at capacity and it certainly felt like there would be no space for anyone else to fit. Nevertheless all facilities were cleaned on a regular basis which would have been a mammoth task due to the public holiday.
The pool complex is pretty amazing but for me personally it was just too busy to be enjoyable particularly with a toddler until the Monday when a large chunk of the people left.
I was a little nervous about previous comments about wristbands and overzealous policing of them particularly as we would be going on a busy weekend but these fears were not justified and found that all staff were really helpful and friendly at all times. Even when the team came around to enforce the 10 am quiet time (we were in a very large group who enjoy a laugh) they went about it in a relaxed manner and there were no dramas.
In summary it was a really pleasant stay with excellent facilities including great wifi with friendly staff. We have already booked for next Easter and cant wait!

This is our 2nd time returning back to Taupo Holiday Resort. This time we decided to book longer and choose different options of accommodations for each party.
1. Party booked cabin.
Was clean tidy more than accommodating. For 6 people in the cabin.
2. Party booked tenting site was preselected so it was accommodating for there needs. Was plenty of room for set up.
3. Party booked power site tent/caravan site was big and power connections was accessible.
The lagoon was not fully operational due to maintence and or construction of the hydro slide being built.
The hot/cold pool was closed off to the public.
The cafe and icecream parlour was closed also. We didnt find out till we entered the lagoon swim up bar due to covid.
The lagoon and pool was clean and tidy accessible including for wheel chair entry in and out of the pool some signs would be helpful for direction of steps if this was someones first time there at the resort.
The toilets and changing areas inside the lagoon and on the camp site of the resorts were very clean and tidy and the staff when alerted were very efficient to santise and clean areas that needed tending too. It would be ideal for non slip matts in the changing or shower areas the floors are tiles and will slip when wet.
The highlight of our stay was the friendliness of the staff Tete was amazing!! In recpetion made it easy to direct and set us all up in our rooms and cabins and sites. Friendly to being approachable for advise or information. Wow this lady was almost everywhere assisting beyond expectations. Someone who truely loves there job.
Same with Ben or Benjamin at the lagoon bar friendly and very happy going someone who also loves there job and very good behind the bar happy going.
Our stay overall was amazing and we will be returning back next year again. There were no faults just reccomendations. Bring on next year 2023.

We had intended to stay at the Lake Taupo Resort over Easter 2020 and made booking months in advance. Due to Covid-19 lockdown, we were advised by the park that they were closing and our booking was calcelled, however, that they would be retaining the full moneys paid for 7 nights (deposit and balance) with no refund! This was contrary to their cancellation policy and subsequently challenged. Park management eventually relented and supplied a refund. I note, we were happy to wave the initial deposit fee. We have just returned to the park to be told that the "owners no longer wish to do business with us"... no way to conduct business and good will when the lawfulness of their initial actions was questionable and one would question how lawful this action is. We have recommended this location to friends before but can be sure that won't happen in the future.

So i found it hard to rate Taupo Holiday Resort because on the one hand you have an amazing pool complex that would get a clear 5 stars and on the other you have a camping experience that would only rate 2 stars.
As far as the pool is concerned, it is perfect, feels like Fiji in Taupo and it is hard to find any fault at all.
As far as camping is concerned, well that's a different story, the pitches are crammed together so you feel like you are in some sort of refugee camp, barely space in our pitch to have a tent for five people and our car and trailer. I paid $1.6K for ten days on a patch of grass where i could hear people in the next tent as if they were in my own and i had to balance around the edges to open the doors in order to look directly at the family next door who were maybe ten feet away in their own tent. So as far as a camping experience goes it was about as far away from that idyllic kiwi experience that we normally get when we camp at this time of year. Birds were replaced by traffic noise, the local gun club and the conversations of the five or six tents that were all within spitting distance of our own so not what i would call worth $1600 !!!
The facilities were clean but far too small for the amount of people, the toilets were constantly in use meaning that brushing your teeth to the smell of constant excretion was the norm and very often you had to do the awkward wait for a free cubicle when you left it to the last moment before walking to the facilities.
There were plenty of staff around and they were all friendly and the food and drinks were on the expensive side but not over priced.
Over all we will come again but ONLY for the pool and i certainly wouldn't stay more than a couple of nights because the accommodation is terribly overpriced for what it is as a camp site.
As a foot note there were bigger pitches than ours but i booked four months out and they were all booked out. Generally they were taken up by people with large boats which sort of says it all. We had a powered site reasonably close to the pool but in hindsight i would probably go for an non powered site which whilst a much longer walk were much larger and cheaper.
If you are coming here don't let me put you off, it is a great place but just be aware this wont be a great 'camping experience'

What a great site, within easy reach of Taupo city centre and site has great facilities. You have got to try the tropical pool with its own bar accessible from within the pool and geothermal heated. This site is extremely neat and tidy and although busy when I went it was so peaceful during day and night. What an asset you have got to stop here, you won’t regret it.

Clean facilities. the large sites are great. The thermally heated lagoon is just wonderful. swim up bar. Hydroslides, mini golf, beach volleyball court, basketball court, tennis courts, games room.
the washing machines are the most expensive i have come across at $6 and only use $2 coins - so bring lots for all those wet towels.
Staff helpful. facilities clean and well maintained. For those that complain they get no refund when cancelling it is clearly advised before booking, during booking and recommend domestic travel insurance for those within nz.
We stayed during the week and was hardly anyone around. During all of January, and during weekends it is busy and public holidays it is full.

I stayed Christmas 2020. We were a group of four families staying in tents. We booked 12 months in advance when there was a minimum of 5 night stay only then it changed to 6 nights. Then they decided if we wanted to be together there would also be a $5.00 per night per booking to be all together. We had all committed at this stage and had paid up front way before the time we were going so we had no options but to pay up. The prices we paid were over the top for tenting and very expensive for families having to stay 6 nights. Just to top it off my sister decided to stay on boxing day and was able to just pay for two nights? We did have a good time so I decided to rebook for the Ironman which was cancelled due to covid. No way will they give you a refund when through no fault of your own your event is cancelled. They wont even answer my emails. I recommend not to book even though its a great place for kids but way overpriced and not worth the hassles.

We stayed for 5 nights in the bunk rooms we were surprised it had blinds this time were as in room 41 there are none ( come on for the money fix this issue) makes a difference for us with kids. The pool is our main highlight it’s just amazing we absolutely love it
The attention to detail and fun is next to none, it accommodates for everyone. We ate in the pool every night spending a small fortune over five nights some of the bar staff are very unhelpful and a little rude which is such a shame and really not very helpful with kids come on guys common sense your in an arena with kids smile and be kind. However you should give Claude a raise she was “Amazing” came out everyday to greet us , came out through out the day to see if we were okay . What a super awesome lovely amazing lady who cooks with that special ingredient called love ! She personally saw to everything nothing was a problem she made us feel like family treated the kids so well catering to there every whim nothing was a problem. Every morning there she was waving to us like old family friends with her beautiful smile her 5 star review of the owners was incredible you are very lucky to have her treat her well, people like this are rare and special and made our stay even more special. We can’t wait to return to see the park and Claude again. Thank you Claude for making our stay so incredible and going that extra mile for us everyday you truly are a wonderful person .

We have stayed in this resort many times, and booked nearly all the different accomodation options except camping. This time we saved up and booked the motel cottage that sleeps six. I love this place as a great escape for the kids and the pool is the star attraction. I was disappointed this visit with a few things. Firstly the bathroom door in out door locked me out straight after a cold dash from the pool. Noone answered the phone at reception I had to walk back to the reception in my son's clothes as mine were locked in the bathroom. The door has remained broken all weekend despite being told multiple times it would be fixed. I was really upset as we paid extra for the motel bathroom. Our friends stayed in a four berth motel and their unit was much better appointed with extra TV's, a bigger kitchen hob, bigger bathroom and a sofa with stand lighting. Our unit had no bedside lights for a king bed which was a real pain. Suggest that this is remedies as not much fun sitting in dark reading by torch light in a $300-400 motel. Aside from.that this is a fantastic resort but the motels aren't worth the extra money. We will keep coming back.
