Stayed at this hostel for two nights and enjoyed the stay.

Although a little run down with a 70’s vibe going on. The accommodation was perfectly clean and tidy . Rooms were small as you would expect from a hostel but adequate.

WiFi was free for the first 50mb then purchased at 1gb for $5. Found it difficult to connect in the room so didn’t use this facility.

Location was a 5 minute walk away from the town. Easily accessible. The area was reasonably quiet with not much disturbance going on.

The breakfast was a choice of cereal and some fruit so not bad for free!

Overall a pleasant stay !

I wanted somewhere cheap, clean and handy to town. This ticked those boxes. From the outside the building looks tired and the inside was dated. However I was pleasantly surprised as it was very clean and tidy.
Breakfast was included in the price as was linen.
The location to town was handy and it was a $20 shuttle drive from the airport.
The host was knowledgeable about the area and was friendly.
I would stay here again.

My girlfriend and I stayed in a double room with shared bathroom facilities and it was everything that was advertised with pluses like how clean and well kept the place is! It also has a really homely feel, and the decor and lay out makes it feel more like a homely B&B , what made this place a definite recommendation is that the manager was extremely friendly, laid back and an awesome singer if your lucky enough to hear him play! a really chilled out place perfect for a beautiful place like Taupo! Cheers Rue

We're a young couple travelling around New Zealand and we only stayed at Bradshaw's for a couple of nights but it was one of the nicer places we've stayed in.

Everywhere was nice and clean and comfortable and the owner was really friendly. It must be a popular place as there was quite a few people staying there - many of whom had stayed there before. The shared kitchen/dining room/living room was a nice, cosy environment for everyone to use and the log fire made it lovely and warm all through the day. The view of the lake from the lounge window was also a nice touch.

We did come at a bad time however as the electrician was there for two days and at times we were unable to use the facilities which meant we couldn't have a shower one morning and we struggled a bit to make dinner with lots of other people trying to use two small hobs - but the owner was very apologetic and it obviously attracts a nice crowd as everyone got on well and was very nice about it.

It was a bit far to walk from the centre of town for us (but only because we had large backpacks to drag around) but apart from that we would definitely recommend Bradshaw Lodge and would stay a second time if we visit Taupo again.

The breakfast was basic but did the job (two kinds of cereal and fruit) and the chap who owned it made all the difference as he was very friendly and helpful with telling us where to hire bikes and where the best places to visit are.

I stayed in this hostel a couple of days, the place is 10 mins walk from the visitor center, the position is good and easy to find, the place is really cosy and you feel like at home, the rooms are nice and clean, you get free breakfast ( milk cereals and fruits) the kitchen is small but all right, the wifi is quite expensive (for a backpacker) the staff was very friendly and helpful but if you need someone in the reception you need to ring a bell because is unattended, they look not well organized, i think this place is nice but could be great with some improvements.

When I first arrived at this place it reminded me of the old style guest houses I used to stay in as a child. It seemed to be purpose built as an accommodation, not just a converted house like many hostels. It had a feeling of a cross between a hostel and a guest house.

As previous reviewers said, it still has that 60s-70s decor, but has a cosy atmosphere.

I just stayed one night, and my room was a family room - with double bed, separate room with double bunks; ensuite bathroom and also a handbasin in the main bedroom. Would be great for a family of four. Everything was clean; linen and towels provided. Shower recess could be updated - but okay for just one night (but I also noticed little mould on the bathroom curtains).

Quite a few common areas - TV lounge, dining room (also with lounge and TV area), front balcony and middle courtyard. Breakfast was choice of two cereals, apples and coffee/tea - left for self service. Big kitchen so you can cook your own meals.

This place is listed on Book a Bach, so you can rent the whole place out - would be good for large groups and families. Walking distance to main shopping area, bus station but also a local supermarket/green grocer and butcher only 5 mins walk away. Walking distance to lake (view of the lake from front balcony).
Nothing fancy about this place, but good location, and good value for money.

We didn't get off to a great start as they didn't have our booking but the guy on reception assured us it was ok as the hostel was empty apart from 1 other guest. Apparently the team we met had just taken over as the previous manager had left suddenly, we never found out what happened but they were doing a great job. The place was spotless. It helped that we had the whole hostel to ourselves and used the kitchen and lounge in peace. It is a bit like time stood still in the 70s in terms of the furniture and decor but our room was largd with an en suite, everything worked and was well stocked. Reception offered hair dryers, adapters and extra blankets and pillows if you needed them. There was also plenty of tour and local information available. We missed out on the free breakfast as we left too early but I'm sure it was good if the rest of the hostel was anything to go by.

So it's not the Four Seasons Hotel, but it's a quiet place to rest yourself during your travels. Complimentary continental breakfast, although I think they only brew the coffee once, so best to make your own fresh as I did. Breakfast consists of some plain cereal and fruit, which we happy with. Kitchen available for use but not necessarily the cleanest; the guy in charge of cleaning was a young 20 year old from Scotland whom I suspect his mom cleaned for him, haha. A bit out of town center by walk, but close enough. Near the lake, and the frontdesk guy showed us a place where you could visit natural hotsprings that we didn't know about, just ask and he'll show ya. Kinda feels like you're back in the 70's when you stay there, but for the price, I'm not complaining about the "Brady Bunch" decor.

Bradshaws Lodge is by far one of the best backpackers in NZ, Cosy log fires and free (basic) breakfast. The guy who runs the place was really friendly, helpful and a great source of information. The place had tons of personality, and super clean. Highly recommend to anyone stopping in Taupo.
