Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Deb is so welcoming and gracious and her home makes the perfect setting for a B&B. My huband and I stayed here in May 2015 as part of the last leg of our 5-day trip through the North Island. Even though we were several hours later than we expected, Deb was very understanding. The room had a very comfortable bed and crisp linens. Deb accomodated our early morning fishing execursion with a fabulous breakfast - fresh fruit, toast, museli, yogurt, and freshly-toasted croissants. We couldn't ask for more and love to come back and visit soon.

Deb has a beautiful home which she enjoys sharing with her guests. Malcolm and I were made to feel extremely welcome. Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, yoghurt, muesli, croissants, ciabatta and toast. We loved spending evenings with Deb and Martin, watching Australian Masterchef - we missed the end - who won? Thank you so much for all the advice about places to visit in Taupo we particularly enjoyed Orakei Korako and our time in the hot springs at Wairakei Terrraces.

We stayed at Debs b and b for two nights over labour weekend and walked the Tongariro crossing on the sunday.

It was a fantastic b and b! Deb was a great host and welcomed us into her home. The views are fantastic from the bedrooms and the gardens are beautiful. It's about a 5 min drive from Taupo town and an hour from the Tongariro Crossing start so great location. Baxter, Monty and Millie (the dog and two cats) were also fantastic hosts! I would definitely recommend this b and b!

I wish to review not the facilities of this establisheMent but the ethical actions of the operator Deb. she took a cancellation for a booking that was not at her establishMent not once but 3 tiMes and never bothered to Mention that i was contacting the wrong lodge. the naMes were siMilar..acacia bay lodge and acacia bay lakefront both a B and B. as such the booking at the correct establishMent but left in place and i was contacted by their operators on the day of arrival to see why i had not turned up. when i called Deb her response to Me was ..how is this My probleM.???
so you Make your decisions as to whether or not this is the kind of person you want to deal with and give your business to. she also told Me that " Taupo was better off without people like Me or My kind" when i said i thought she was incoMpetent for having done what she did., but i think it was deliberate.

Response from temoenga, Owner at Acacia Bay Lodge
Responded 23 Dec 2013
This comment upsets me as this woman was extremely rude and abusive over the phone. She did not have a booking at my lodge however when she called to cancel thinking this was her accommodation, I genuinely mistook her cancellation for one of my clients who also cancelled at the same time (an honest mistake on my behalf). There was no need for her abusive phone calls as she did not give me a chance to explain what had obviously happened. I run a family B&B and enjoy having friendly people staying with me. I hope by reading all the other reviews you will have a realistic idea of my accommodation and how I enjoy interacting with my guests.

I stayed about six days with Deb, and it was more akin to visiting friends than staying at a B&B. The room, the views, the overall size of the property, and her dog Baxter were sensational and only matched by Deb's charm and sense of humour.

I could not recommend this place more, it was a fantastic experience and such a change from lonely and sanitised hotel rooms.

I will be back and this would be my first pick to stay - no need to look elsewhere.

I also note just now one negative review out of many, and note that the woman did not stay at Acacia Lodge. It sounds like she made the booking mistake and is a bit deranged!

Deb, the owner, was very gracious and "over the top" during a recent stay in Taupo for a golf holiday! I stayed here before and I will stay here again since in my opinion it's the best available especially since the Wairakei and Kinloch GC are closeby. By the way, Deb has a 14 handicap so is very informed of the local golf opportunities. The breakfasts were great and plentiful! Modern and spacious room and bathroom.

The Acacia Bay Lodge is a beautiful house located about 5 minutes from central Taupo and has great views to Lake Taupo and Mount Tauhara beyond. There are beautiful gardens around the house and the interior is equally stunning. The bedroom was very comfortable with views onto the garden and the spacious bathroom was excellent. We only stop for one night travelling further south but Deb made us feel very welcome in her home and provided a very nice breakfast prior to us leaving. Would recommend this B&B to anyone who is visiting Taupo area.
