Detailed Reviews
I stayed here with my wife and 2 younger children. The apartment itself was more like a townhome. Our apartment was large, with 2 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. It is right by the lake and within a 5 minute drive to the center of town. Even more amazing than the rooms was the above-and-beyond service we received from the manager, Gwenda.
We needed to do laundry badly and the dryer in the room was small, so it was not drying all our clothes in a timely manner. We had a flight in te he early afternoon and we had to check out in the morning. Initially, I asked for an extra hour to check out, hoping the clothes would dry. Gwenda let us check out late, but the clothes still didn't dry.
We asked her where the nearest public laundry was, describing our issue with wet clothes that needed to dry before we left. She said that she would use her large commercial dryer to dry the clothes herself while we grabbed a bite to eat before our flight. This was amazing enough. When we got back from lunch, expecting to pick up just a bag filled with our unfolded clothes, it turned out that she had all of our clothes folded and our socks paired up and rolled up nicely for us! We were floored and so grateful for her help and her thoughtfulness. I offered her a tip and she refused.
I would not hesitate to stay here anytime I am in Taupo. It's a great value with great space, a perfect location and a truly caring management team of Gwenda and Warren. Highly recommended!

Well appointed unit, with one bedroom and a king bed. Hidden in the main living area was a fold out double bed in the couch (sorry the couch isn’t the most comfortable to sit on), also hidden in a cupboard was a fold down double bed, comfortable.
Huge bathroom and great shower. Full laundry facilities in the unit. Kitchenette had all that was needed for a extended stay.
Quiet, very little external noise could be heard. Access to heated pool and a easy booking system for the private spa.
Very clean and tidy.
Easy stroll into the town area for a variety of different cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Would recommend to all.

We found The Village Resort on line after a shocker of a hotel the night before. Host Gwenda made us very welcome, upgraded us to the most comfortable, clean, beautiful apartment. We were so thankful. Previously timeshares, they are beautifully presented and very clean.
We walked into a warm environment. The King size bed, new in October/November 2019 was made with precision and the gardens were beautiful - we found out the gentleman who is responsible for this is ex-army so it is no wonder! The bed was extremely comfortable and the ensuite large. There were spare blankets but they were not needed.Next door there was another large room with two what looked like king size single beds. Opposite there was a laundry, complete with washing powder, and another toilet!
Upstairs a large fully equipped kitchen, large dining area with an extendable table that could seat 6 to 8 and a lounge with views to Lake Taupo were again in excellent condition. A pull down double bed, perhaps larger, was secreted inside a cupboard in the lounge. Plus there was yet another fully equipped bathroom! Comfortable chairs and a couch completed the picture.
The private spa pool was very relaxing and although a heated swimming pool is also available to use we did not use it, perhaps next time.
The apartment was warm, quiet and very much appreciated by us, I wish we had known of it sooner so we could have stayed longer.
Hosts Gwenda and Warren are friendly, knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to have met them. The rapport they have with their staff is awesome! They are a very happy bunch of people which we feel is why the presentation of The Village Resort is excellent. If we could give them 10 stars we would. We have already told friends about this wonderful resort and we will be back!

Lovely last minute stay here after driving up from Whanganui. Good a really good last minute price for a 1 Bedroom Apartment.
Location is super handy, within walking distance to town, and almost spitting distance to the Lake. The Lake is directly across the road.
The lady at Reception was very friendly and gave me good directions to my room. Parking was right outside the door to my apartment. However it is a EXTREMELY tight carpark, especially when driving a larger car. Lucky for me the carpark was deserted, as in my car I think it would have been impossible to get it in and out. However the side street the resort comes off is very quiet and you could park there pretty easy.
What a lovely spacious apartment, with a little outside seating area. A full kitchen with oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer. All the crockery and bake wear needed to cook decent meals if wanted. There is a large dining table in the living area. I thought it was a shame there was no couch, instead there were 4 chairs that were pretty uncomfortable to watch telly on. There is also a fold away Murphy Bed in the lounge which I thought was a very clever use of space. There is a huge, spacious tiled bathroom with a walk in shower. Separate Toilet and also a Washing Machine and Dryer. I took advantage and did a load of washing. Unfortunately the dryer was not working properly, the door kept opening which kept stopping the dryer. Luckily there was a Clothes Horse provided so I managed to get the washing dry.
Nice comfortable bed in the separate bedroom, with a small wall mounted Telly. There is Sky TV, but it's not the 50+ Channels you find at most places nowadays, it's just the few selected movie/sports/kiddy channels.
The Resort was really quiet which made for a blissfully peaceful night. The whole apartment was very clean and tidy. Even the grounds were well maintained and tidy. The Resort has a Tennis Court, Outdoor Heated Pool and a Spa Pool. I didnt get a chance to use any of the facilities. But they looked really awesome.
Apart from the small niggles like the parking and the dryer, it's hard to fault this place too much. 5 stars - would definitely stay again if the price was right! :) Thanks for the lovely stay The Village Resort.

We stayed at The Village Resort for 3 nights in a One Bedroom Suite and were blown away by the fact that we could wake up and look out of our bedroom window to see the Lake with the sun shining on it and the whole of New Zealand looking jealously over our shoulders.
Having been greeted by Gwenda, Warren, and Millie (with her Tennis Ball in her mouth), it was obvious that these are people who live and breathe hospitality.
They remembered who we were, remembered our likes and dislikes, were aware of my changing requirements meaning I cannot climb stairs whilst I am awaiting a Hip Replacement.
Gwenda and Warren assured us that Unit 9 would fit all of ou needs, and they were not wrong at all.
We loved our time at The Village Resort, and will be coming back here every chance we get.
Close to Town.
Right Opposite the Lake.
Does it get any better.
Two thumbs up from both Liz and Mally.

Thank you Liz and Mall for taking the time to write a great review for us at The Village Resort. We are so pleased you enjoyed your break away in one of our Large one bedroom apartments. Yes the view of the lake from the bedroom is stunning, and the new carpet and spaciousness of the apartment, and our location sure make it a great place to stay. Right on the lake front and close to town and besides the Jolly Good Fellows pub.
Surprised by how spacious the apartment was - we were only staying for one night but if staying longer you could really make yourself at home (with good size kitchen, washing machine etc).
Next time we visit Taupo this will be top of our list to stay.

This was like staying in your own separate cabin or apartment! Each unit had a sitting area, dining area with table snd chairs, kitchen with full refrigerator and all cooking/dining utensils, bathroom, and bedroom. In addition there is a patio in front of each unit that included a grill and small table and chairs. The facility is a couple of blocks walk to the lake. While we only stayed two nights, it would be an excellent accommodation for a week or more!

This apartment is fabulous, one of the very best we have stayed in. It is situated across the road from the waterfront and close to the main center. Our one bedroom upstairs apartment was beautiful, excellent furnishings and decor, very spacious with lounge area, dining area, modern well equipped kitchen, outside balcony, large bedroom and large bathroom, with good size shower, vanity and separate toilet. Secure on-site parking, excellent WiFi and very helpful Management.
There is a heated pool, spa pool, tennis court and other amenities that we didn't use. Families were having a wonderful time in the heated pool even in the cold weather. Can't speak highly enough of the whole complex and accommodation.”

Lost for words, literally. Myself & my just turned 3yr old have just stayed at this beautiful resort for 2 nights. From the minute we met Gwenda & Warren, i felt safe, me & my son had just travelled by ourselves all the way from Auckland. They both made us feel so Welcome & their wee dog too.
Then we went to our stunning room/apartment & i was totally totally blown away.. our room was stunning, more than i expected much much more.. it was warm, cozy & super super clean, with a 3yr old that was too priority as a mum & this beautiful room exceeded all expectations, we got to enjoy the pool, spa & playground facilities a definite 10/10 for a Toddler. Best holiday ever & we will mist defjnitely be returning, also i have lots of friends that have viewed our IG & looks like they will be staying too at some point.
Thank you again Gwenda & Warren, for making my little boys 3rd Birthday the best Birthday ever 😉

This place was fantastic for us. We are a big family with the need for an accessible room suitable for a wheelchair, as well as the space for two families with 2 young children each. It's a tricky requirement to fulfil and nearly impossible to get it just right, but The Village Resort managed to tick the boxes. It was a bonus to also have a great playground for the kids, a tennis court and a lovely swimming pool and spa. And all walkable into the centre of town.
Unfortunately, the whole resort wasn't quite fully accessible, but the rooms had what we needed, and with the help of some strong members we managed to get us all into the pool.
With decent and affordable accessible options hard to find, we will definitely be thinking of here if we return to Taupō again.
