The Anchorage Resort is a beautiful complex located right on the shores of NZ's largest body of water, Lake Taupo. The Anchorage Resort features 21 spacious units, We have a variety of room types from large studios, one and two bedroom units and our amazing and luxurious 3 bedroom apartment. Our complex is also family friendly with our pool area recently receiving a spruce up -including a new deck. With a heated plunge pool, we offer the perfect way for the family to relax and enjoy Taupo's amazing sights whatever the weather. We also offer free Wi-Fi, off-street parking and easy access to the lake just across the road from our motel. You will not find a better place to stay at for that special family holiday.

Approximately 5 minutes drive from the centre of Taupo around the bay, the Anchorage is one of many hotels/motels/apartments overlooking the lake across Lakeside Terrace. Free parking for one car per room is provided, and the property is easy to find coming from either end of this long road. Within walking distance, the sailing club is good for pizzas and has a bar with seating overlooking the lake, and the Meridien hotel’s bar is a great venue for a relaxing drink. A small heated outdoor pool and sizeable hot tub are provided for the use of guests, and pool towels can be obtained from reception.
Our one bed apartment had a great view from the first floor and a nice balcony with a table and two chairs. The kitchenette provided everything we needed, having a two ring electric hob, microwave, kettle, toaster etc. We had two settees and a large flat screen TV with 4 Sky sports channels and access to Netflix as well as the usual free NZ channels. The large double bed was comfortable and the bedroom had adequate wardrobe space, although a few more hangars would have been good. The bathroom had a good size shower cubicle and toiletries are provided. Ironing board and iron are placed in the wardrobe and could be used following a visit to the small onsite laundry. All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay and thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for three nights at the end of last year and found it to be a nice relaxing stay near the waterfront. The staff are nice and friendly and are always willing to help. You might me next to the main drag of Lake Terrace but you don't hear any street noise at all. This resort is a five minute drive to the shops so might not be walkable but not very far at all. One of the downsides of this hotel is that the parking facilities are not very good at all. Yes you get a park outside your room but the driveway to get out is very tight and would struggle if you have a bigger car. This hotel offers bikes for $5 at the front of receptions and also offer continental breakfast. The dominion post is also a complimentary service however you will need to tell reception the night before. All the rooms are very spacious and can easily a small stay here on a wet day when outdoors is a no go. If you do have to be on the sofa bed then beware of how spring it is (it might take a while to get comfortable and fall asleep) they also have a iron and iron board along with a clothes dryer. All in all a recommended place and would definitely consider staying here if I come back back to Taupo in the future.

We very much enjoyed the facilities of the Anchorage Reef during our one night stay.
After three days of biking the Great Lakes Trails it was lovely to take advantage of their large, super clean heated swimming pool and the relaxing extra large spa pool before we headed to Rotorua the next day.
The upstairs one bed room unit we were given had a spacious sunny lounge with beautiful views of the lake and a separate quiet bedroom. We also noted there were ground floor rooms which were closer to the pool but may not have had as nice a view as ours.
Peter, the host , was very efficient and gave us suggestions for a great restaurant where we had a delicious Indian/Nepalese dinner.
While the motel is not within short walking distance to Taupo town Center, this is still a great place to stay for couples or families visiting Taupo.

With a great view over Lake Taupo our room has a lounge with dining area and kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom. All very clean and with all essentials. The owners were very pleasant and pointed out various local attractions.
The accommodation is some way from the centre of Taupo but the nearby Ploughmans pub does very good good and other restaurants/takeaways will deliver.

Two of us drove down from Auckland for a three night stay at the Anchorage Resort. We arrived after dark and were greeted warmly and shown our rooms upstairs. We were directly above the reception area and had superb views over the lake. The rooms were spotless. Large TV and comfortable sofas. Fully equipped kitchenette with adequate space. Bathroom had very large kidney shaped bath with shower overhead, and again plenty of room. We made great use of the large swimming pool and the spa pool which were very popular. Towels were supplied for the pool. We hired "real" bikes (at the entrance) and helmets for $5.00 each and went biking for 2 hours around the lake. Great fun. The Two Mile Bay Sailing Club was just across the road and we enjoyed dinner /drinks there and were entertained with live music. Very popular and crowded and music was great. Perfect weather, the icing on the cake!

We only stayed one night en route down the island, but the accommodation was first rate. Claris at reception was most helpful giving advice on eateries - look no further than the sailing club for a drink and a pizza - and we also enjoyed both the pool and the spa. We had a very spacious room on the first floor overlooking the pool with the lake beyond - with a very useful sized balcony, a very nice place to chill out. Also used the laundry, albeit not free, it was only a few dollars and the use of an airer meant the clothes were dry overnight - perfect for onward travel. We even coped with the stairs given we were able to park right below our room!

These rooms are neat comfortable and convenient. We could walk to the water or two mile bay yacht club pizza bar within 2 minutes. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Rooms were quiet, beds and pillows very comfortable.
Wifi was a little patchy, but it was nice to relax in the hot spa or warm pool. I would definitely stay again.

Located just a 5 minute drive from the centre in a quiet location with an amazing uninterrupted view of the lake this is a wonderful place to stay and I doubt you will find better.
The gardens are manicured and pool area is kept to an immaculate standard.
You will find there is plenty of parking spaces and you have your own specific space for your room.
We stayed in room 9 on the upper level which has a central view of the lake which you can enjoy from your balcony.
The room itself was a generous size and was spotless, as well kept as any 5 star hotel. Yes some of the fittings are a little less luxurious than a 5 star hotel but are clearly very well maintained and you will find the room well equipped.
There is also a self service laundry.
Just across the road a two minute walk from the property is the sailing club bar, ideal for a lunch time or evening drink and pizza or the like.
There is also a lakeside path which you can take on foot or hire a bike from the resort.
Just up the road a short drive away is an excellent Countdown Supermarket.
Peter and Charis clearly care a great deal about the standard of their property and the service offered and are great hosts!

Very clean unit, with a separate bedroom and a queen sized sofa bed in the lounge. Access to bathroom from the lounge area, and also from the bedroom, so a really good arrangement for sharing accommodation without disturbing the other party. Parking at a separate entrance at rear made easy access with luggage, so well designed. The front entrance opened onto a pool and hot tub complex, again very tidy. Pool shuts at 8 pm, and hot tub at 9pm. Two Mile Bay is a short drive from the town centre, and there is a new supermarket less than a kilometre further south. Very quiet.

No, you can easily do this. Its best to pre-book some transport like Tongariro Expeditions as they can drop you off at the start point and pick you up at the finish point. Check out their website and you will see departure times.
they pick up from motel accommodation.
I'm not sure a shuttle runs from that far out of the town.
I know the bus runs from the information right in the heart of Taupo.
You would need to get to that pickup point.
There are more places to choose from in the Taupo area.
