We were blown away by the top notch service and hospitality offered at Anchorage. We were a big and noisy group and the managers accommodated us so well. The pool/toddler pool and spa are beautifully laid out with plenty of room for lounging, bbq etc....More

No, you can easily do this. Its best to pre-book some transport like Tongariro Expeditions as they can drop you off at the start point and pick you up at the finish point. Check out their website and you will see departure times.

I'm not sure a shuttle runs from that far out of the town.
I know the bus runs from the information right in the heart of Taupo.
You would need to get to that pickup point.
