Checked in later than we had expected - didn't actually meet anyone during our entire stay - but everything was efficiently handled through the intercom at the door and getting buzzed in to pickup our "envelope". The room was clean - the bed was comfortable - the internet worked really well, without any "extra's" which I totally appreciate! I only...

A renovated old building by its owner (also the designer). A stylish, hip boutique hotel. Right in the heart of the city. Walkable distance to main attractions. Shops and restaurants nearby. An Irish pub downstairs so may have some noise at night. Clean and well decorated room. The lobby, hallway and common room are also charming and cozy. Everything in...

We chose the State Hotel while touring around NZ as we wanted a base in New Plymouth. We chose it because it looked a bit quirky & it was. All the rooms are on the first floor with no lift but the whole place was beautifully decorated with some great art work. Our room was quite small which was OK...

The room was very clean. The room as well as hallways and waiting area were very well decorated. The bed was very comfortable. The windows closed make the room very quiet. The host will take your special needs into account.

The old State Hotel building has been renovated - the rooms are en suite, modern, clean and wee-equipped with microwave, kettle, fridge, Sky tv, ironing board and iron, safe. The bathroom was more cruise-ship size than hotel size so if you are big, it might be uncomfortable. I arrived much later than expected because of a cancelled flight, but Lynne...

We enjoyed our stay here. Eclectic decor and a great guest lounge. It felt a little odd having no reception or hospital staff. Kind of like you were being looked after by house elves. The room was a good size and immaculately cleaned daily. Would happily stay again.

A very well maintained boutique style hotel, in a good location of the city. The room could have been a bit bigger and it did lack the personal touch with no receptionist physcially on site. A well layed out lounge was also available for guest use.

Hi Samuel Your review was very appreciated and the fact you mentioned the easy checkin in a positive light is great. Maybe it doesnt suit everyone as there is no receptionist but its convenient and as you said easy. Mountain is out now. Hurry back. Kind regards Lynne

We stayed at The State Hotel one night (21/01/2017) for the Festival of Light at New Plymouth. It is a very beautiful hotel with lots of character and is very well renovate. We stayed in room 4, nice and warm, bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Recommended.

Hi Pia Thanks for your review it means a lot to the team here. Our interior designer does a great job and is constantly upgrading or rearranging so it keeps it interesting. If you come again we will try to upgrade to one of our bigger rooms or at least a larger bed. Thanks for staying a hope to see...
