The hotel is very tastefully decorated and restored, with nice art work and furnishings. It is clean and the service good. However, it is positioned next to a cafe and pub which means loud music until late, then the cafe kicks off early at 7am with music and banging of a coffee machine. We also thought it quite pricey.

We stayed 3 nights here and have stayed previously. Impressed by its cleanliness, can do attitude and furnishings that make you feel at home. Loved the lounge which was great to relax in as our room this time was one of the smaller ones. Slept so well with the air con on, incredibly quiet despite being in the middle of...

Great location, close to restaurants and bars. Very comfortable and clean room. Ecclectic style overall, loved the furnishings and decor. Super cute shared lounge. Sorry we could only stay for 1 night.

Really nice hotel. Quirky decor inside. The manager of the hotel was very welcoming and helpful. Location of hotel is right in the centre of New Plymouth so shops, bars and restaurants are very close.

In the middle of the city, but so quiet and peaceful. The room was perfect, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Felt so luxurious. The easiest check in/out ever. Loved the decor and artwork. Complementary water really nice touch.

after our original motel booking failed to impress, we located The State Hotel and went to see if there was anything available. Lynn the Hotel Manager was very friendly, showed us the rooms before we booked - the hotel is clean, beautifully decorated and very central! beds are nice and comfy, and the room comes with all of the essentials!...

This is a fine small hotel in the centre of New Plymouth. The rooms vary in size but are spotlessly clean and modern. There is a diner below but no noise appeared to elevate to the rooms. The diner also serves a variety of sizeable breakfasts. All rooms have very good air conditioning. My only minor complaint would be that...

Travelled to New Zealand to visit family, and explored more of the island while away. Our stay at the state hotel was absolutely wonderful. It's decor and cleanliness are second to none. The owner, lynne was extremely friendly. Spent 2 of the 3 nights in the lounge watching the world go by. When it was time to checkout, we were...

Great location, great presentation. Never met the owner or staff from the hotel. Envelope and key on the entrance hall table. Checked out still no staff. Comfortable room but very small for 2, clean smart and modern.

Hi Hellfire Thanks for writing your comments about the Hotel. Whilst you are not always met at the desk I am only a phone call away as I live on site and am there 24/7. We do the automated system which is relatively new in New Zealand, and we think it works pretty well. Hope well see you again some...

Checked in later than we had expected - didn't actually meet anyone during our entire stay - but everything was efficiently handled through the intercom at the door and getting buzzed in to pickup our "envelope". The room was clean - the bed was comfortable - the internet worked really well, without any "extra's" which I totally appreciate! I only...

Hi Jon Thanks for staying with us. I would have been lurking around in the halls as I live on site and pop in and out of my apartment. Just to point out the glass is actually glazed with I think whisper glass maybe we need to upgrade that, and also there are blinds in every bathroom which are the...
