Detailed Reviews
Booked the last room available during Christmas week and was taken back by the thought and effort put into the decor and style. Throughout the Hotel everything has been chosen to give a calm and reassuring feel to your stay. The quality of the furnishings and equipment in the rooms is one of the best I have found in a small Hotel. Despite being above a busy restaurant and on the main road there was no street noise and room facilities were excellent. Limited parking is available at the rear of the hotel and covered by cctv.

The State Hotel set the stage well with a pre-arrival call to describe the check in process. The front desk is unattended, so you need to buzz the manager to be let in. Keys and everything were very well organized. The hotel is fully up to date with a very nice style throughout. Guest laundry was available. The hotel is in a great location with just a short walk to the beach and lots of local food options to try.

Comfortable stylish room. The hotel is located in the city centre with a wide choice of restaurants and cafes nearby. The remote check-in was simple and straightforward with free car parking close by. Would definitely recommend to others.

This hotel is in the centre of town with some fabulous cafes and restaurants around it, they also have free parking a couple of minutes walk away. The hotel has been restored and is just beautiful the detail is very sympathetic to the age of the hotel. The hotel was extremely clean and we watched as the skirting boards were dusted. One of my pet hates is when a hotel gives you cheap thin toilet paper, add a couple of dollars to the price of the room and buy decent toilet paper, no complaints here 3 ply toilet paper all the way. The staff were extremely friendly and always had a chat when you came across them. The room is not massive but big enough and well designed so that suitcases were not in the way. If I had to express a negative it is very minor and that is, that I thought a third shelf in the bathroom would be helpful, just so he had somewhere to put his stuff. But overall brilliant hotel and would not consider staying anywhere else in New Plymouth.

I love this hotel! I've stayed twice now and will definitely come again. The decor is very stylish, with great art work everywhere. The little lounge is so beautiful and tranquil. the location is fantastic, right on the main shopping street and with a great eatery - Joe's Garage - directly underneath the hotel, with plenty of vegetarians options. Both times I got a really great room rate off Booking.com so it was great value for money too. Highly recommended!

+1
Stayed here before and will always look to stop off here whenever we need some accomodation in NP.
Very well presented hotel with exceptionally decorated interior and very friendly service. There’s no ‘manned’ reception which I think adds to the charm of this centrally located place. Gives you an extra sense of privacy.
You’re right next to everything that you need in terms of restaurants and bars etc.
The rooms are well laid out, beds comfortable and you basically have everything you need.
Only just discovered that they have their own car park just 30 seconds from the hotel which is an added bonus.
Very well recommended hotel.

The state hotel managed by Luke (the general manager) was simply first class. The decor, the lounge area and the customer service was superb. We had an instance whereby my daughter was unwell and Luke’s care to support us was greatly appreciated. They also provide you with a 10% discount when you dine at the state hotel restaurant, the food and service was great. I highly recommend the State hotel and the beautiful interior design and architecture. Thank you Luke and Staff for your service and we wish you much success.

Had a very pleasant 2 night stay here. There is no one on site. To enter you ring the doorbell and a voice answers, opens the door automatically where you find a desk with an envelopes with keys inside, just look for your name. No elevator, all rooms up 2 flights of stairs. Our room was very small, clean, quiet, nicely done, room 10, but had everything you could want including fridge, coffee and tea making, and surprisingly a microwave, plates and cutlery! Air conditioning worked well and was quiet. The king size bed bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable and the sheets were crisp cotton. There is a small communal lounge which was nice and a cold filtered drinks machine in the hallway which was also a nice touch on a hot day. They had 2 parking sites. The first was to turn down Glover St with the hotel on your left, drive down the alleyway and on the left, there are about 6 spaces including electrical charging point. The bigger parking was on Glover St, just after the alleyway, just off main road on your left, about 10 spaces here. Would highly recommend the Indian called Cinnamon nearby. They have alcohol but you can also BYO and there are 2 supermarkets 2 minutes walk from the hotel. (Try the lamb Laas and the chicken Methi, delicious)! Several small cafes for breakfast if not wanting a full cooked one. Would highly recommend.

The hotel itself is quaint and creatively inspiring with New Zealand products and artwork. It is in a central location for shopping and sites around New Plymouth. You can walk right out of the hotel and be on the shopping street with a short walk to the the plaza area and mall. Will definitely be staying again!
