Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Karen and Murray are great hosts, friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was delicious, and the conversation over breakfast with foreign guests was enlightening. The room was spacious, very clean and had a gorgeous view of the mountain when the weather allowed. The Lodge is well situated close to the city but still in the country with open spaces and a real country feel. All in all a great place to stay and we would recommend it.

What could be better than to wake up to a clear view of Mt Taranaki and then enjoy a breakfast cooked to order by Karen? From the moment we pulled into the driveway until the moment we left we felt very much at home in the warm embrace of the Lodge. We were met on the stoop by Karen and Murray, given a delicious cup of tea and then regaled with all the information we could possibly need abouty the local area. Close by are the restaurants at the Winery and Butlers Reef so there is no need to brave the evning traffic back into New Plymouth and Karen also offers dinner at home if you so wish. All in all a lovely place to stay and one that will remain in our best memories

After a long drive from our previous stay, we couldn't be more happy than to be received by the lovely couple Karen en Murray. Our stay at their place have been an an amazing experience. Sure, their place is very nice to stay and so is their breakfast, but it would not be the same without them. Although we had very poor weather during our stay and did not get the beautiful sights that the region is known for, we still had a memorable stay because of this place. Total recommendation!

Only a short distance from New Plymouth, but the views are worth it. The Lodge is built to cater for discerning clients. We had a large well appointed room, with an extra large American bed. Hosts Karen & Murray are very generous with the pre-dinner drinks and food treats, and getting to know you as a personal guest. Our breakfasts were fantastic with home grown eggs, & naturally raw fresh from the cow, milk. Made the freshly baked scones taste just that much better. The Lodge is very well presented and thoroughly recommended.

Very authentic welcoming and we enjoyed the caring mindset from Karen and Murray. Moreover, the quiet room and neat bathroom with great shower were perfect. The room comes with a beautiful view on the surroundings and a terrace. Sitting in the living room with our hosts made us feel just like home. The pigs and chickens are very cute and made awesome funny pictures.

“Our room and ensuite were spacious with an awesome view of Mt Taranaki. The bed was super comfy. Each morning we had a superb breakfast of fresh fruit, bacon, eggs from their own chooks, tomatoes and freshly brewed tea of coffee. Our hosts were fabulous and any requests were actioned swiftly with a smile.”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Richmond Farm Lodge. Our room was larger than we expected, the bed comfortable and the bathroom perfect. We had a fantastic view of Mount Taranaki from our room as well.

Murray and Karen are wonderful hosts. We felt welcomed and appreciated. We also really enjoyed our breakfast in the morning.

The B&B was within a short driving distance of New Plymouth. My wife and I were very glad that we chose to stay at the lodge than use one of the more central hotels.

Thank you again Murray and Karen, love Mark and Niña.
