Detailed Reviews
My superior king bed room with a kitchen was very pleasing. Very clean.
Be aware that this is a large establishment that has some rooms facing the busy road and some other rooms that require stairs to access. Ask for a ground level back room.
Though this can result in noise from early morning departures especially if workers are off to their site works.
Considering the room came with a full oven there were then not oven friendly cooking containers supplied. I think that management will supply a frypan if U ask.
I did not make use of the pay to access breakfast or the evening dining as self catering was my goal.
As a stay it certainly deserves its good reviews.

The booking experience by phone was great. Understanding staff with abundant patience and good suggestions. Our room was at the back of the hotel on Gill Street and was very quiet with a balcony and pleasant view with a glimpse of the sea. A King Single as well as a Queen size bed. We had a refurbished room which was worth the extra few dollars a night. Good TV if you want and the only minor fault was nowhere to hang towels or clothes in the bathroom. .. . . a couple of $5 hooks on the back of the door adjacent to the bath would be a great idea. We had a great stay and will stay again.

Location was excellent and easy walk to get into town and 5 min access to the boardwalk which is an excellent feature of New Plymouth. Rooms were a bit outdated, but they are in the throws of updating them. The room was clean and tidy and the bed comfortable. The staff were friendly and obliging and willing to sort any problems in a great way. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent and a reasonable price. Breakfast was very good, and the light breakfast for $10 was excellent value for money.

The staff were very friendly and approachable. The rooms were very clean. However, rooms were out dated. Definitely needed some work done to them.
The pool area was nice. The spa however was filthy. When turned on and bubbles form, there was a thick layer of grime on top of the bubbles. Very off putting. Location was pretty good, fairly close to the beach and I could even get a glimpse of the water out my window.
Possibly management should consider installing water stations where guests can fill their bottles with filtered water as the water in the room was in drinkable unless you like to drink dam water. Would definitely stay again.

Thank you for your feedback, our standard rooms are next in line for refurbishment to bring them up to the level of our modernised Executive and Superior rooms. Our apologies re the spa pool, it does get very heavy use over the holidays however we will look at how we can keep it cleaner. We have a water station at reception where you can fill your drink bottles any time for free as we are aware that visitors from out of town do not adjust to our water so well. Glad our friendly team looked after you well

This accommodation is really conveniently located with many restaurants and supermarkets close by. The beach and coastal boardwalk are also just behind the premises.
There are some other features of this accommodation I really like.
1) A good size swimming pool, though the water was a little cold. It also had a spa pool. This makes it easy keeping the kids busy and active.
2) It has two bedroom units which gives extra space for everyone.
3) There is a king size bed in one of the bedrooms, which is rare, most have a queen at best. the beds were comfortable too.
4) Well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, which again a very rare find. it makes washing up very easy after meals. Last thing you want to do on holiday is dishes right? 😜
There were some negatives that’s worth noting:
1) There is no air conditioning, which makes it hard In a summer night when the kid’s bedroom only has a tiny window that faces the path outside where everyone walks pass to go back to their rooms. So we kept it shut to keep out the noise at night and that became very hot.
2) This is a pet friendly hotel and it is great for pet owners who want to travel. But unfortunately some must have kept their pet in their room while they eat out so their dogs were barking. This makes it noisy at times.
3) It must be the busy period that caused the daily room cleaning very slow. We stayed for three nights. For both days, our room wasn’t cleaned until after 4pm. The first day they had only picked up our dirty towels and they didn’t clear the rubbish bins in the toilet and kitchen. The second day they finally did.
We had lunch at the on-site restaurant Juliana one day and the meal was really good. All in all, it was a good stay. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Just a few tweaks and it will be great.

In April we stayed at the Auto Lodge Motor Inn for two nights. My partner has limited mobility and the team at the Inn did everything they could to make it easy for us - a great ground level room with parking right outside and a short walk under cover to reception and the restaurant. We ate at the restaurant both nights as the food was superb, the service great, and we were kept a table by the window. Because we had been traveling a lot, it was a nice relaxing way to end the day rather then going 'out on the town. The reception staff were really helpful. Not only was it great but the room cost was very reasonable - in fact the lowest cost room we stayed in anywhere on our North Island round trip.

I took my wife to New Plymouth for her birthday and after looking at all the accommodation options listed, the Auto Lodge Motor Inn ticked all boxes. It, however, exceeded all our expectations and can easily compare with a four-star hotel. We were not in want of anything, and the staff recognised us in the mornings, greeting us as if we were family and not first-time visitors. We had all the amenities in the room which was exceptionally clean and will cater just as easy for the business traveller as well; a fine cuisine dining experience a t the hotel's restaurant, the famous Juliana's with cocktails at the bar and a game of pool to end the evening. It was within easy walking distance to the city centre. As global travellers, this is definitely one of our favourites and if you ever want to visit New Plymouth, save yourself some time and look no further!

We are a New Zealand family that has been separated across the Tasman due to COVID restrictions. As soon as travel restrictions allowed we made a booking at the Autolodge for us to reunite for a family wedding in New Plymouth. We searched for a house or apartment that could accommodate us all (two couples, one toddler and one single). We wanted to be able to self-cater and have meals together, do laundry, & have a space where the toddler could be outside. We chose the Garden Apartment at the Autolodge with its 3 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms, full kitchen, laundry & courtyard. We booked and paid for it in full in February for travel in April. We received email confirmation that the booking was confirmed and payment was taken. On arrival in April we found the Autolodge had taken a longer term booking for the Garden Apartment and refused to honour our booking – claiming it was a “computer error”. We did not find out until 2 days prior to our arrival which prevented us from seeking alternative suitable accommodation. Their only offered solution was 3 separate unacceptable hotel rooms at their sister property, the Plymouth International. Totally unacceptable.

We travelled to New Plymouth in January and decided to book the family room at the Auto Lodge Motor Inn, that was the right decision. It made the whole 3 nights stay there so pleasant, the room is spacious with more than adequate power sockets to charge our phone devices which can be lacking in many hotels.
Parking was a breeze, strong wifi connection in the room and the staff were friendly and polite whilst dealing with many guests and queries. The information sheet given at the reception found to be quite useful. Our 4 years old daughter enjoyed her swimming at the pool, she could still remember the room number (no. 61) which she kept talking about it a month later after we returned to Auckland, she surely did have a great time over there.
Definitely come back again, we didn't have enough time to dine at the restaurant but the menu seems to have plenty choices to choose, so maybe we can put in our must do list in the next visit. Thanks for accommodating the nice stay and great hospitality during the time of our stay!

Our Executive Studio was roomy, clean and lovely and quiet. We travelled from Hawkes Bay to see the sunset on Friday 14th Jan. Booking was made through another website, it was a great deal and cheaper than booking through the actual Motor Inn. We moved the small television from the little table it sits on as it is lower than the bed and was hard to watch when laying in bed.
The room had a chair with a writing desk, unfortunately this chair is too high for the writing desk and you can’t sit at it.
Loved the great big mirror in the room, I also loved that we were able to sleep with the sliding door the leads onto our private balcony wide open all night as the room was very warm. We also slept with the fan on all night.
We had the buffet breakfast in the restaurant, it was sooooo good. Everything was hot and tasty, I loved the breakfast, Polite interactions with the staff - FOH and the chef. Keep up the good work guys.
I would definitely recommend and stay here again. My daughter and her partner stayed in one of the Standard Studios, I wouldn’t recommend staying in these as the bathrooms need updating and some staining on the carpet, even though the floor space is the same as an Executive Studio. Definitely worth upgrading to the Executive Studio!
