The campground access was a bit difficult for our larger campervan, but the reception person was very helpful, staying late to meet us and giving us a very suitable site after looking at our vehicle.
Toilets and showers were very spacious and clean. We didn't need to use the ktichen but appreciated the well organised recycling and rubbish setup outside.
It feels like a good location to use if you are out and about in New Plymouth during the day but less of a holiday resort feel than other Top 10's we have used. Access from the highway was a bit difficult for larger vehicles - I assume there are a lot more cars parked on the local roads then when the camp was founded there - but no trouble for cars or smaller vans.

Hi Banger and Cally, Thank you for your review and feedback about your stay at our Holiday Park. We are pleased you found the toilets and showers spacious and clean. At the time of your stay it was Tournament week for high school students and our holiday park is close-by the netball courts and a soccer field, so there were extra cars parked on the roads leading to our holiday park than normal. There is lots to explore in our beautiful city of New Plymouth including the mountain, parks and beaches. Kind regards The team at New Plymouth TOP 10

We went to a powered site me and my boyfriend. The place is nice, tiny, good located and quiet, but it has things to improve as common areas seems old-fashioned. You must bring everything you need to cook because the kitchen is not equipped (although you can ask for pots or pans at reception, there are no utensils, cups, plates, cutlery) Cleanliness is perfect.

Hello, We are pleased you enjoyed the location and quietness of our Holiday Park. All the units come equipped with pots, pans, utensils and crockery to use in the communal kitchen (or in the rooms with their own kitchens). Along with the pots and pans available to hire from reception we also have a selection of plates, cups and utensils to borrow. (We have found in the past it is not always left clean in the communal facilities for the next guest to use). Kind Regards The Team at New Plymouth TOP 10

We stayed initially 7 nights but extended to a further 4 nights. We stayed on a tent site then moved to a standard cabin when our daughter joined us. The reason we stayed longer was simply because it was so enjoyable. The facilities, cleanliness and family vibe made this decision easy. The cabin was perfect with comfy bunks, tv and kitchen/sink and cost effective. It had everything we needed as we were out sightseeing during the day.
This has been the best top 10 classic holiday park we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot of them. Matt and his team were so welcoming and it felt like a home away from home.

We paid $191 per night for a three birth self contained unit which was more like a dog box. When we booked it we only wanted to book for one night but was told that was not possible and we would have to book for two nights. The unit was tiny with a single bed in the kitchen/dining area (I wouldn't call it a lounge) and a double bed in what was a tiny bedroom with barely walking space around the bed. The tiny bathroom was off the bedroom meaning everyone had to go through the bedroom to use the bathroom. To call it a bathroom is being very generous as there wouldn't be enough room to swing a cat in there. The day we arrived we were out until late and when we got back to the unit it was extremely hot after such a hot day being shut up. There was no air conditioner in the unit and not even a fan so the night proved to be unbearably hot. Just a note for anyone considering staying here in Winter - don't! as there is also no heater in the unit. Also when we got back late on our first day we found that the bathroom light was not working and of course too late then to get this fixed. A night of using phone flashlights to use the bathroom. Besides the unit being a dog box the camp itself was tiny with units crammed together like sardines. Parking outside the units was car door to car door angle parking like on a street. Health and safety and parental supervision of children was zero with many children riding around on bikes, running around, or playing in the tiny car parking area. A tragedy waiting to happen. $191 a night is the most expensive we have ever paid for a self contained unit at a camping ground and is unbelievable for this load of garbage. The only reason I have given it a one star is because it was clean and tidy, otherwise it would be zero. To call this a Top 10 Park is stretching all imagination. It should be a Bottom 5.

Hello, We do offer a variety of accommodation units, including larger two bedroom units, you have stayed with us at one our busiest times of the year, so these may not have been available when you booked. The heaters are removed from the unit during the summer months to allow more space in the units. Kind regards The Team at New Plymouth TOP 10

The staff we dealt with were lovely. Sadly, we felt our unit was way overpriced for what it was and compared with other provincial parks we have stayed at. While a lick of paint had been given to the unit, it needs a new kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom door was a hazard. It was difficult to open and could have been an issue in a fire. The bathroom door scraped the floor and was also difficult to open. There were not enough power points throughout the unit - especially in the kitchen. With the shower being over the bath, their should have been a grab handle to be able to mount the side of the bath safely. It appeared that the broken remnants of the towel rail was an indication that someone had used this to steady them selves while getting in. With a dark shower curtain, there needs to be a light over the bath. The walls over the bath were bowed, just looked ugly. Having the toilet in the same room as the shower in a unit designed to house 7, was problematic. The kitchen cabinets had their faces painted but because of their age and materials made with, they were sticky. The microwave and jug were on the same circuit and you could not safely run the two devices at once. The pots in kitchen need lids. Need at least 1 extra pot for a unit for 7 people. The new stove was nice. Insufficient scrubbers to clean pots and pans. The TV keep losing the signal. The bunk room may have worked for kids but didn't for adults. The heater looked as though it had something cooked on it and really needed to be replaced.

The ablution block toilets, in one cubicle had a broken seat. It looked as though the toilets were cleaned once a day and if you wanted to use them at the end of the day they were in a pretty grubby state.

The park is only 10-minutes drive from town, but is in the middle of urban housing so has no views.

We are family of two adults and two children stayed in the campsite. We found the cabin was extremely small and under equipped for the cost which was over $200 per a night. The toaster in the room did not work. The cabin was advertised to have tea and coffee making facility. Other than a kettle, there was nothing else. I went to the office to ask for a coffee plunger, I was given a very dirty looking and not working one which the plunger does not stand up. In addition, there were no cooking utensils in the common kitchen or in the cabin.
The free wifi was a teaser. Our children used it for less than half hour. They were told they used all the data. I don’t believe the campsite should advertising to have free WIFI.

We had a lovely time in the park. It was safe for the kids and close to town. The kids enjoyed the pool and playing on the karts that you can hire from reception.

We stayed 3 nights in the studio bunk room which were comfortable but could do with an upgrade. I would recommend that families book early for a room with a shower and cooking facilities in the room to make the stay more comfortable.
Thanks for having us.

After a change of plans due to cyclone Gabrielle myself and my partner stayed at the Top 10 New Plymouth staying on a powered site. The owner of this site was lovely and very happy to share tips/nearby activities that would suit us well - it was well located to Taranaki National Park. The facilities were clean and well maintained - there was also the bonus of getting to have a look at a few pitches to decide where we wanted to stay! Resulting in a pleasant 3 nights here.
The only minor inconvenience was that despite being top 10 members, which with all the paperwork we have tells us we receive unlimited WiFi, we were told there wasn’t unlimited free WiFi at this site. As we were staying 3 nights this would have been good to have. Despite this, we were very happy with our stay.

And a lot more fantastic things about this place. Friendly staff, hedges to create private sites, cleanliness of amenities and tidy grounds. The wonderful hot tub. Location to promenade is perfect for walking, scooting or biking along the coast into town.

The campground had all the facilities we needed on a basic level, which was good. However, I have a few gripes. The kids play area was tucked away behind the pool area which was tucked away behind the bathroom block, which made it hard to keep an eye on the kids unless you were standing right there with them in the playground. I only counted one washing line in the entire camp ground to dry clothes, which made it difficult to dry wet beach and shower towels each day. The bathroom facilities were not cleaned regularly or often enough, maybe once every two days? And we found old food wrappers and rubbish under our mattresses throughout the cabin. They need to improve their level of basic cleanliness.
