For this hotel the location on the waterfront opposite the wind wand and next door to information centre Puke Ariki is a major selling point. Rooms in upper levels have view of Mt Taranaki. Walk to downtown restaurants. A little “tired” looking rooms in terms of decor but very clean. Using room cards for power means AC often needs resetting. Sometimes parking unavailable as hotel guests compete with restaurant guests in evening. Great friendly staff. Would recommend overall.

Dear chrisandbarbara2019, Thank you very much for the thoughtful review. We're delighted that you enjoyed the wonderful location and found the staff to be friendly. I have noted the areas that you've suggested for improvement, and we will discuss these as a team. We are planning some refurbishments over the winter months, once things quieten down a little for us. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you again soon. Warm regards, Tobias Daniels General Manager

This is centrally located and just across the start of the coastal walkway, close to museums, shopping mall, shopping areas, restaurants and fresh world for your fruits. Just a little bit of cleaning is required in the bathroom some pink stuff in the shower box and the shower box needs some maintenance, not clear. Also, the daily cleaning doesn't do any vacuum cleaning.

Had a bit of a road trip to New Plymouth to celebrate a big 0 birthday and visit the TSB Festival of Lights. Chose the Millennium due to its location and reviews. Go glad we did, as we could not fault anything from the time we checked in, till when we checked out 4 days later.
We had a lovely large room on the 2nd floor with nice views towards the sea. Huge king bed, Sky TV, free wifi, nice bathroom with a large shower and spa bath. The room also had Tea and Coffee making facilities, along with a bar fridge.
We decided to celebrate hubby’s birthday at Salt Restaurant, the food, staff and service was outstanding, even two complimentary glasses of bubbles.
They have free parking underneath the hotel, if that’s full - plenty of car parks nearby that offer free parking from 5pm to 9 am. However, don’t park in the the shopping centre opposite as it’s strictly monitored.
The Hotel is next door to the Puke Ariki Museum, which is well worth a visit, plus very close to central shops, bars and restaurants, all about a few minutes walk away.

Sea View: We paid extra to get a view of the Tasman sea. I understand a side appointed view but the sea view we got was obstructed by trees. The room also has a beam and is fronting a parking lot. The room description should be updated to say obstructed view of the Tasman sea. It should be honest. The current description is very misleading. The additional amount should also be reviewed depending on the room position/sea view offered by the room. We were on level 2, left hand side when facing the hotel. We stayed 4 nights and we were really disappointed by the view considering the extra money we paid for it.
Breakfast: We had breakfast included in our package, and for the first breakfast we were charged for the coffees. It would be good to clarify with the staff what is included in the breakfast package. Otherwise, the food was good.
Dinner: There was also a promo for a 3-course dinner which was not offered or mentioned when I booked at The Salt - I only saw the ad at reception the following morning. This ad would be better placed in each of the rooms or, as I said, mentioned when booking.
Parking: The parking was mostly full by 5pm and we had to wait for a space. There are parking spaces nearby but parking fee should be checked.
Others: Nothing extra in this hotel, pool and gym are outside the hotel. Suggestion would be bikes to use for the coastal walkway across the street.
Good: The room was clean and the staff were nice.
Location is great but I would look at other options next time.

Dear arDWorld, Many thanks for your detailed review. To mislead our guests is certainly not our intention, and I sincerely apologise if you were disappointed by the view available from your room. On our website, we describe our Deluxe Rooms as: Luxury and space with side appointed views of the Tasman Sea. Located on levels two and three, rooms feature a spa bath and floor to ceiling glass windows for natural lighting. All rooms have a large work desk and a small balcony is available in many rooms. The above description does seem fairly accurate to me, but I will pass on your feedback to our marketing and distribution teams for their consideration. Thank you also for your feedback regarding the three-course meal. We do have a sign fairly prominently placed at reception, but we will look to include additional collateral in-room for any guests that miss this on arrival. We appreciate your comments regarding the staff, room and location, and hope to have another opportunity to host you in the future. Warm regards, Tobias Daniels General Manager

The designation as a four star hotel seems somewhat imaginative. This is not what I would anticipate in a four star hotel. Having said that, the place served our purpose satisfactorily. The location is excellent, being central, by the waterfront and near shops. The staff were pleasant enough. We had a family suite on the second floor booked for three of us, with a separate bedroom plus a bed in the living area. A bonus was the self-catering with a cooktop and microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Only one bathroom. Tired furnishing but adequate. Comfortable beds. Some traffic noise with heavy traffic from the port. Nice bar for an evening drink. Breakfast was included but I only tried it once in the four days. It was a la carte not buffet and the instruction was to choose one main item (such as eggs Benedict or poached eggs), one fruit juice and one hot beverage. Not really the way I want to breakfast so didn’t try it again. The hotel entrance and lobby is underwhelming which lends to the impression of a lower grade establishment. Parking is available very conveniently on site but on a first there basis, no reserving. When I made the booking through a booking site the hotel insisted on immediate payment with a no cancellation refund policy which was a bit heavy and unusual for the particular booking site. I would stay there again but probably check out other possibilities first.

You can't beat this hotel for location in New Plymouth - smack bang near everything you need (shops/cafés/bars) also waterfront with fabulous walks and views.
The parking is great directly outside the front door although not 100% secure necessarily.
We arrived around mid day and were lucky our room was ready which was great (the reception staff on arrival was lovely).
Room was a generous size and the bed was comfy.
We enjoyed drinks in the bar late afternoon (excellent happy hour) and dinner in the restaurant (great view).
Only downsides we experienced on our stay were the lift being out of action do having to use the stairs (they did however proactively ring and warn us about this so much appreciated) also major roadworks were occurring directly in front of the hotel meaning it was pretty noisy and smelly sitting on the balcony admiring the fantastic view (not really the hotels fault though).
Would recommend and would stay again.

We sincerely appreciate all of the positive comments you've provided, and apologise again for any inconvenience caused by the elevator being out of order. We stayed 4 nights as I had been given a birthday voucher. Our room was on the top floor with a side view of the ocean. The room was clean, comfortable, roomy and very quiet at night. Air conditioning was good. Voucher included a cooked breakfast at the Salt restaurant which we enjoyed each morning after our walk/bike ride on the Coastal walkway. Thanks to all the staff who helped make our visit so pleasant.

We had booked this Hotel trough a booing agent, they had quoted two people instead of mention our under twelve year old child.
With no hesitation the receptionist said we can put an extra bed in, before we reached our room it was all in place. The hotel is in a good location, easy walk to many places. Good carpark.

Booked in for a two night stay over the Waitangi long weekend. When we arrived the room was set up with two single twin beds. I rang down to reception and said I had requested one large bed. Apparently the Special Requests from the booking website hadn't come through. The property was full but the front desk said it wasn't a problem to get housekeeping in to push the beds together and rearrange the room. We headed out and when we returned the room was remade without any fuss. The room was a fantastic size, the bed was super comfy, the curtains were good level blackout and the shower was excellent pressure.

The lift is a bit of a thrill ride that gave a couple of surprise lurches.

Breakfast was decent at Salt from both a selection and value perspective.

I will happily book this location again as everything was spot on.

Stayed for three nights for our 30th wedding anniversary. We were greeted by Kirk at front office. He was friendly and most important he wished us for our anniversary. We were given the room card he clearly explained where to go. Kirk also told us he will help us if we need to use the spa, which was really sweet of him. He also gave us the tourist locations, recommended restaurants, as my wife is a vegetarian. They had in house Salt restaurant which didn’t have many vegetarian options.

We had chosen the penthouse. It had a small patio and the bedroom as well as the lounge had uninterrupted sea views. The penthouse was spacious, and it also had a small laundry. We really enjoyed our stay and wished we had stayed for some more days. Location of the hotel is excellent, walking distances to cafe & restaurants.

Highly recommended.
