Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Millennium Hotel New Plymouth Waterfront receives accolades for its prime location with easy access to local eateries and picturesque scenery, as well as its overall cleanliness, ensuring a comfortable environment for guests. While the rooms are appreciated for their spaciousness, some guests have expressed dissatisfaction with the temperature control and the absence of sea views. The service is largely commended for its friendliness and efficiency, though there have been instances of unresponsiveness.
Visitors enjoy the on-site restaurant's sea views and the hotel's central location, but they have raised concerns about parking limitations and some amenity issues. Opinions on value vary, with cleanliness and comfort being praised, but deceptive pricing and a lack of compensations have been points of contention for some.

Detailed Reviews
Centrally located and with car parking right outside, this hotel is clean and tidy and has 42 rooms. There are also good conferencing facilities.
We were greeted by a very helpful and friendly young man (Bessian) and checked into a large clean room with 2 good sized easy chairs and a large very comfortable bed. Breakfast was included and this was served in the restaurant overlooking the ‘Wind Wand’ and the sea again by friendly staff. The food was excellent and plentiful.
We had a most enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.
We look forward to staying here again on our next visit to New Plymouth (which is also a lovely place to visit - especially the park)

A well located hotel, but lacking sea views in most rooms. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the in house bar and restaurant have good views of the ocean, but it was odd that service concluded at 8.30pm in the bar. Car parking at the hotel is not sufficient for all guests, but across the road is public parking that is free between 6.00pm and 9.00 am. Our room rate did not include breakfast and we would recommend nearby Monica's Eatery.

Dear malcsaville, Thank you for your detailed feedback and for staying with us! We’re pleased to hear that you found our location convenient and enjoyed the spacious rooms and ocean views from our bar and restaurant. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the early bar closing time and the limited parking availability. Your comments are valuable to us. Complimentary onsite parking is subject to availability and alternative parking available next door to the hotel which are free from 5pm to 9am. Regarding breakfast, our Salt restaurant onsite offers delicious ala-carte offerings daily with fabulous views of the waterfront and not forgetting the delightful services from our team. Would recommend you to try us out on your next visit. We hope to welcome you back soon and provide an even better experience! Best regards, Vivek Vadevelu General Manager

This Hotel went above and beyond to make my stay something to sing its praises. Checked in and the room was so beautiful with a great view of the mountain. But there was an issue with the toilet in the room it was sorted by giving me another room for the night but it has smaller and had its own issues. In the morning manager was notified of issues in the rooms they were sorted very quickly and I was given a choice of a free breakfast or lunch in the hotel restaurant. This is what I call great customer service. Recommend staying here rooms are very clean and very comfortable. Only thing needs addressing is the noisy spa baths. But certainly a great place to stay with the bonus of a great restaurant with awesome sea views.

Dear SimoneM5968, Thank you very much for the time and choosing us as your ideal hotel during you trip to New Plymouth in May 2024. We sincerely apologise for the shortcoming and I am glad to hear that our team acted fast and sorted the issue out for you. The offer of free breakfast or lunch was a small token from our end as service recovery. Delighted to hear you enjoyed the room and appreciate your feedback re in-room spa bath. Glad you enjoyed Salt restaurant and the amazing views! Our team and I look forward welcoming you back in the near future. Best regards, Vivek Vadevelu

Upon booking we were asked if we would pay extra for sea views which we did. The first room was a joke with a glimpse of the sea if you looked around the corner. We objected and were shown a second room which was just as bad. Third attempt was acceptable but beware of main road traffic noise.
At dinner we were charged for 2 bottles of wine we had not bought and at the extraordinary price of $98 per bottle that's a lot! My husband taught basic maths to the staff and continued to correct their maths even as we were checking out.
Deceptive presentation, sea views are really only available in the penthouse and diligently check your receipts!
Very tired and grungy look and feel.
3 stars is generous in my opinion and wouldn't recommend.

Dear Roving42970598203, Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention. We apologise for the allocated sea view room not meeting your expectations. Additionally, we regret the inconvenience caused by the road noise in the second room shown to you and glad the third room met your expectations. As our property is located in the CBD area, the traffic noise is beyond our control however we do supply ear buds in every room for our guests to utilise if needed with any noise issue. Regarding the billing error at dinner, we sincerely apologise for the mistake and any frustration it caused. We will provide additional training to our staff to prevent such errors in the future. We are also sorry to hear that the overall condition of the hotel did not meet your expectations. We hope you will consider giving us another chance in the future to provide a better experience. Best regards, Vivek Vadevelu General Manager

The designation as a four star hotel seems somewhat imaginative. This is not what I would anticipate in a four star hotel. Having said that, the place served our purpose satisfactorily. The location is excellent, being central, by the waterfront and near shops. The staff were pleasant enough. We had a family suite on the second floor booked for three of us, with a separate bedroom plus a bed in the living area. A bonus was the self-catering with a cooktop and microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Only one bathroom. Tired furnishing but adequate. Comfortable beds. Some traffic noise with heavy traffic from the port. Nice bar for an evening drink. Breakfast was included but I only tried it once in the four days. It was a la carte not buffet and the instruction was to choose one main item (such as eggs Benedict or poached eggs), one fruit juice and one hot beverage. Not really the way I want to breakfast so didn’t try it again. The hotel entrance and lobby is underwhelming which lends to the impression of a lower grade establishment. Parking is available very conveniently on site but on a first there basis, no reserving. When I made the booking through a booking site the hotel insisted on immediate payment with a no cancellation refund policy which was a bit heavy and unusual for the particular booking site. I would stay there again but probably check out other possibilities first.

Worst first: the hospitality received on our first visit to the restaurant was very poor. The young man who seemed to be in charge was unwelcoming rude and full of bad attitude. He barked at us, "Did you book?" He didn't even come over to us, rather, he threw his rudeness from a distance. We didn't want food, just to have a drink, we would've told him that had he had the manners to ask. Zero points for manners and respect.
Overall the hotel is average. The reception decor is below average although the receptionist on duty was made up for it with her positive attitude and manners (dark skinned woman). Covered parking is available. There was no mini bar, just milk pods and sachet coffee, tea & sugar. Not much in the way of utensils or crockery, just one teaspoon, a wine corkscrew, two cups and 3 glasses. No stem wine glasses. With limp and misshapen pillows the bedding was average although the bed itself was comfortable. The room had a good heat pump. The bathroom/showered was very good, including spa ports in the bath tub. Cleaning was below average in the bathroom because the floor wasn't cleaned properly.

We had a great stay at the Waterfront Hotel for 3 nights. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a nice room, with a partial view of the sea. Best of all we had a great deal through the SuperGold card with breakfast free each day, and it was a fantastic breakfast each time!

We had four days here and loved every moment. Great location - we were able to walk most places. Breakfast was excellent - not your usual hotel buffet. It was a cafe experience where you ordered from a menu. We had a bed and breakfast deal and we were able to have a juice, coffee and menu item of our choice. Over the course of 4 days I had three different menu items and all were delicious. All the staff we came across were friendly, helpful and attentive. Room was a little tired but clean, spacious, comfortable and had all we needed so we were more than happy. Bed was very comfortable. Would absolutely return.

Room and location excellent except only one bedside lamp at a king-size bed? Food in Salt excellent although waiting staff need better training - don't lean across customers when putting down drinks or plates. Chairs in Salt badly deteriated, need changing.

We just had the most wonderful High Tea experience at Salt and could not recommend it enough! The calibre of the food was exceptional and after having tried other High Teas in New Plymouth, I can say this was absolutely the best by far and such good value for money! It’s such a lovely setting and the staff are so friendly and hospitable - they went above and beyond to meet our needs! We’ll definitely be back!
