Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our family room was spotless and had everything we needed for our nights stay. Quite spacious too. Jay (manager/host/owner) was very helpful and friendly and even offered a discounted price for the room.
Will definitely recommend 😊

I did a quick trip to New Plymouth from Auckland for one night. The host was very friendly and helpful. I arrived at 1.30pm and the room was still being cleaned and he offered to upgrade me to another room at no extra cost. However I only had to wait 10 minutes so I declined the upgrade. The room was around the back and very quiet. It was reasonably priced. There was no cook top, just a microwave, so I wouldn't want to stay more a night or two with no means of cooking. The room was tidy, clean but outdated and desperately in need of a makeover as is the whole motel. So all in all, it was sufficient.

when I book a motel room I expect more to cook with in the kitchette than just a microwave, unlike many when on holiday I prefer to cook, also when I arrived I checked in and the very friendly and helpful young oriental gentleman told me that if I wasn't happy with my room to come and let him know and he would upgrade me, didn't say if that would cost any extra tho but I suspect it was to avoid a poor review. The room was fine apart from the disapointing kitchenette. What was also apparent was the lack of investment back into the property, what was once a very tidy and modern motel complex is bow run down, shabby and the driveway in need of resurfacing, but as usual when foreigners by infrastructure in NZ they milk it for all its worth and put very little back in so we end up with things being run down and tired.

Friendly & helpful manager/host.
Exterior needs a bit of sprucing up as well as the gardens. Found empty drink bottle under a bed from previous guests. Toilet ceiling and walls had quite a bit of mould. Hand soap dispenser didn't work. Kitchen floor felt a bit grubby underfoot.
Also our room wasn't serviced the next day during our stay either ie no vacuuming of dining area and dishes weren't washed & dried, but was given fresh towels.

So pleased we ended up with this accommodation. Owner/staff was friendly from the very start when I booked over the phone to time we arrived. He was very helpful - he showed us the easiest way to get to the venue of the concert we were going to. GPS said it was a 25 minute walk but he showed us a different route and was only a 5-10 minute walk. Definitely the place to stay if your'e heading to Bowl of Brooklands.
We booked a large studio that accommodated 3 people. Room was tidy and shower/toilet were clean. All facilities were there for a short stay. Linens and towels were fresh and none of that dusty smell or itchiness I usually have when I stay in an ''oldish" motel.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay!

The manager was very helpful with our queries - we needed an extra carpark for another large American car, and there was missing cutlery and basin plug. The room may look dated but it had the most comfortable beds, good quality sheets, good shower pressure and quiet plumbing. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. No air conditioning but three fans and plenty of windows in the end unit.

The cleanliness of the room was terrible, the whole unit needed a deep clean. It hadn't been vacuumed properly in months. All surfaces needed to be cleaned with disinfectant. The unit was very dated with broken and damaged items and fixings. The vanity needed to be replaced, the shower was rotten in places and needed replaced. The microwave was damaged and needed to be replaced. Light switches were damaged and needed replaced. Curtains has holes in them. Total upgrade and cleaning needed. Would not stay here again

Our room was spacious and bright. Linen and towels were clean and in good condition. The hosts were absolutely lovely and kind. The wi fi was good. But I won't stay here again. The room was dated and worn which wasn't a problem (formica is sure to have a revival right?) but unfortunately was so unclean I had to clean the room myself and ended leaving early as I couldn't justify paying to stay in such an environment. Filthy! The overflowing smelly rubbish bins outside didn't endear either with rubbish strewn across the ground to the entrance to our block. The motel was full so I couldn't ask to change rooms. The locks on the doors were so flimsy I put a heavy chair against the door at night. Good location - close to city/supermarket/Pukekura Park etc. Reviews on other sites seem better so hope my experience is an isolated one.

Stayed 2 nights to see the cars at Americarna. The manager was very helpful as this was a last minute booking due to issues with another motel. The 2 bedroom unit was spacious and tidy. Linen & towels were good quality. It was a handy location to Pukekura Park, the city and seeing the sights around Taranaki. Good value for money. We have rebooked for 6 nights for Americarna 2022.

This would be one of the worst motels I have stayed in.
1. It was not the cleanest.
2. It was well past its use by date. Ie Very tired and unkempt.
3. The toilet was blocking and wouldn't drain away.
4. No plug was provided for the hand basin although one was asked for.
5. House keeping was substandard.
6.The grounds were disgraceful and the seal was broken and pot holed.
7. Grass was unkempt.
8. Drains were overflowing from several units.
For the price charged it certainly was not worth the money.
Would I recommend this place? The answer an emphatic no.
