Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed in this hostel for two nights and not bad at all. The location is good, not far from the intercity bus station and not far to go for a wonder. The room itself is good and pretty spacious. I really liked the lounge and social spaces. There is a large tv in the lounge and plenty of books and games to select. The kitchen is not that big but well equipped and clean. There is also a rooftop where one can drink. When I was there the weather was not great but it was good to hang out in the hostel and I met some people. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it! Cheers

This hostel is just a bunch of whole furnitures thrown in together. There was NO SECURITY at all, NO LOCKS ON THE DOORS, and a smelly dog was wandering about the whole place which was not sanitary. The bunks don't have any ladder to climb up, so I had to hop on a desk to prop myself up on my upper bunk. The furnishing makes no sense: two desks in a backpackers? BUgger them out and replace them with shelves or closets... It feels old and musty, many long-term guests that behave like they own the place. Upside was being refunded the 2nd night I had booked because I changed my plans at the last minute.

Great, friendly helpful staff, nice enough rooms and great location. Only grumble would be the window that didn't quite shut properly, leading to not much sleep thanks to the bars downstairs, but such are the perils of getting a backpackers in the middle of town on a Saturday night.

As soon as I walked up the stairs I was greeted by a member of staff who checked me in. I liked the vibe of the place, the hostel is build from an old hotel and all the sofa's still look very rustic. The rooms vary from large to small but all are well maintained. I felt safe leaving my stuff in the room and chatting to other guest was very easy. The place is well looked after by the staff and are very friendly and helpful. The only thing I struggled with was that, there is a bar right below the hostel, this means that you can hear a lot of music. Overall I liked my stay and would stay there again if I stayed longer in New Plymouth.

I had a private ensuite room for a couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Every staff member I met was friendly and welcoming and made my stay really pleasant. My room and the rest of the backpackers was lovely and clean as backpackers go. The kitchen is well set up with all you need. As others have pointed out, the noise from downstairs can be pretty disruptive - particularly on Saturday night but Ariki very sensibly supply ear plugs! They're well aware of the challenges. The location is perfect with lovely sea views from the balcony and a 50 metre walk to the coastal walkway. Absolutely perfect with many cafes and restaurants all around. The supermarket is about a 10 minute walk and it really is a great place to stay.

Amazing backpackers! The staff, especially Rob, are really friendly and helpful. The hostel is well equipped and the rooms are a good size and are all unsuite. Everyone there is really friendly. The hostel is right in the centre of town, so you are opposite the museum and i-site. Would definitely recommend staying here.

I stayed two nights in a 6 bed dorm with bathroom. The rooms are tiny. There isn't enough room for 6 beds and 6 backpacks it was a very tight squeeze. I suggest they make them 4 bed rooms I would of stayed longer if they were. Ensuite was great to have. Although the light wasn't working in my bathroom so we had a shifty floor lamp that wasn't bright enough. I mean not hard to fix. I didn't use any of the other facilities so I can't comment on this. Free wifi was great and it is in a great location. The customer service was fantastic too.

Staff were outstanding with friendly greetings and a great attitude. The family room was good value for money. Our only issue was the bar located below our bedroom window that meant 'our family' didn't get much sleep on the busy bar nights!
