One night stay before we spent the day working in Waitara
First time to New Plymouth in almost 35 years and I loved it. This city is very pretty. Didn’t get to do the Coastal Walkway as it rained in the morning, but I hope to go back one day
The motel is on the outskirts of the city centre, a little too far for us to walk to dinner but only a 5 minute drive into the city centre.
We had a nice room. Decent size. There were only 2 of us but the room could accommodate 3-5 people. We had two queen beds and one single bed and I think the sofa in the lounge was a sofa bed
The road outside was quite busy but we had an amazing sleep. So quiet. Good blockout blinds to keep the daylight out :)
Room was nice and clean
Pool outside our room. Wasn’t warm enough when we arrived later in the evening so we didn’t get to test it out
Nice friendly staff on reception
The motel was fully booked so parking was tight
Would recommend

Great location. Clean, modern units. Hosts were very friendly and easy to deal with when we booked. It’s an easy walk into town from the motel - we were there for the Matariki light festival and it was easier to walk than find parking in town.
We were warm and cosy in our unit. Highly recommend for a budget conscious option.

Spotless and welcoming, the beds are comfortable and good quality mattresses. After travelling around for a week in different motels it was lovely to find yet another quality place to stay. We had booked another motel and arrived to find it wasn’t quite like the photos and decided to find another place to stay. We were lucky enough o get a booking at the Devon and very pleased we did. We have now booked for a weeks stay there early next year.
There were four of us in the group and everyone was happy, we had dinner in the Marbles restaurant which will never disappoint. Such a wonderful choice of delicious food, European, Asian, Indian, and the best range of seafood.

Being away and for so long can be a drag, but the owners/family are fantastic and the rooms are super clean. Good size rooms with the little things you need to make time away more comfortable. Also a short walk to the city centre with shopping and restaurants just there.

the woman at reception was rude and unhelpful. Was not friendly at all, think it was the owner. As other places were fully booked if one was available we would of changed in a heart beat. Milk was already in fridge even though we were walk ins, dont know how long it had been in there for. The fruit basket had apples rotting. The traffic noise was terrible.
Will not return and will certainly advise others not too book there also.

We are very upset you feel this way, it is a shame you did not come and tell us during your stay that you were so unhappy. We have always given 299 Motel our heart and soul and treated it like it is our home for the last 8 years and have never had such a comment made like yours. * the milk has a best by date on it and is always fresh. * the fruit is compilmentry and we apologise if we missed a piece of bad friut. * we pride ourselves on the cleaniness of our units and our 4 star plus rating by Qualmark supports that. * yes we are on a main road but have whisper glass to filter out the road noise. * being rude is just not in our nature, we have always been known to be welcoming friendly and helpful. We are very proud of our Motel and New Plymouth/Taranaki and would have helped you in anyway possible.

We really liked this motel. It had a very homely feeling, the room was large, comfortable bed and seating arrangements and a small kitchenette. The lady at reception was very helpful and friendly. It’s about a 15 minute walk into the centre of town. It is very good value for money. Would recommend if you’re in town for work or as a tourist.

Stayed here to watch the festival of lights. You will not be disappointed by the well kept rooms they have on offer. We had a room that consists of a queen with a king single so perfect for the older child with her parents. The pool was refreshing after a hot summer day. The road outside is quite busy, however when you close your door, you do not hear it at all. Amenities fantastic. Thoroughly recommend from the friendly service to the beds.

We booked this motel when planning our holiday to New Zealand and did not know anything about New Plymouth or where the motel was. We were shocked when we arrived to find it was on one of the busiest roads in the area. The room we were initially allocated was a lovely room but overload adjacent houses. We asked if they had a room with a better view and were offered a one bedroomed apartment overlooking the garden and pool. The apartment was lovely and spotlessly clean. Our bedroom at the back was quiet and although there was no escaping the busy road, it was lovely to look over the lovely garden area. Owners lovely - extremely helpful and we borrowed bikes from them and cycled the coastal path.
