Not a bad motel only a few minutes drive from downtown area and in a very quite area.

It’s very outdated and old design makes it look dirtier than it is, but if your only staying for a few nights then it’s really good value for money.

If you want something more modern with everything liking first class then expect to pay more, I would happily stay in motel again even though room had a few issues.

Motel in a quiet area. Very good value for money. It was rather dated but offered everything you could want. Rooms have their own private sulphur hot tub which was fun and different. Easy walking to nearby restaurant.

Back in the seventies and eighties (and probably earlier but I wouldn't know) there were many motels on Fenton Street with their own mineral hot water bores, such that these places were heated for next to nothing via radiators and each room either had it's own natural mineral pool or one enormous one for all to enjoy.

These have all gone. Most motels or hotels will only be able to offer you a spa bath with chlorinated mains hot water - no minerals.

Yes you can go to the Polynesian Pools and get a private pool but this is still not the same as filling your own pool yourself any time you like and bathing in it in the privacy of your own suite and not having to share the water with strangers (and wondering what they left in it).

This is where the Gibson Court Motel comes in. It is not a flash place, what's special about it is it's private mineral pools. Unless you are coming for these, the place is quite ordinary, but the pools make it not only unique in Rotorua, but in NZ I suspect. It is also very good value, if soaking away your troubles is what you most want to do, and many of us believe in the water's health benefits.

The family and I have stayed here numerous times, it's your classic Kiwi motel layout, a lounge/kitchenette area with two-three beds and a double bedroom. The pool is out on the back deck area, it is completely private.

In regards safety, the hot water can be very hot whilst running, so not safe to be left running with young children unsupervised, so I would say that this place is not really suitable for young families.

I think it's ideal for a stress break, for couples and people who need to relax and unwind and don't necessary want to make the trip every day to the Poly Pools.

Having said all this, the GC seems to be experiencing problems with it's natural bore. Some times it's not available at all and at others times May, the owner only has it on for a few hours each day. The water used to flow freely but now it spits and gurgles, it seems to have large pockets of air, and really isn't as safe as it was. I wonder if this is the beginning of the end, I know that there was a problem with the council and roadworks but I don't know what the politics are.

If I was you, I would ring a few days before your booking to check that the mineral water is flowing, and if not, you may want to try somewhere else - though I have no suggestions as to where.

Needed a good clean. Poor Wifi. Pool was lovely but needed a clean, it had hair and scum on the bottom of it.
TV was not working well, the owner replaced then still only got 2 channels. Electric blanket not working on the single bed, so this also got replaced. Had to remake the bed up, mattress protector filthy, absolutely appalling, blood on the old electric blanket. This was a family trip away, our experience at Gibson Court was very disappointing and would NEVER RECOMMEND. For what we paid it was a rip off. The owner was accommodating in replacing what was not working, we also had to request an extension cord due to lack of power points in our room. We were so disgusted we asked for a refund within 2 hour and he laughed at us. The worst motel we have ever stayed in and ruined our whole trip as it is a treat for us to stay away. I will be telling everyone about our stay there, I have also called AA BOOKINGS and they are going to look further onto this. This motel need to lift its standards as was GHASTLY.

I read all the review on this motel and looked at the pictures attached to this and booked a room thinking it was just what we were looking for. Well, I am unsure whether we just got the worst room (Unit One) in the motel or what??? Just a few issues that come to mind are listed here:

1. Coffee and Tea in an old Jam Jar and other type of jar, not in sachets.
2. No sugar.
3. Milk given in a small jug with glad wrap over the top. No idea what type of milk it as or age.
4. Handsoap in bathroom in an old container that had mould around the pump.
5. Shampoo (no conditioner) in same container.
6. 2 towels, which I presume once upon a time were white but now grey and hard.
7. No face cloths, or floor mat.
8. Handtowel was a very old tan coloured thing, (best word to describe it).
9. The "mineral pool" was at least 3cm thick with body fat around the rim of it. The taps were covered in mould and gunk and just revolting. The paint was peeling off.
10. The outdoor furniture was 2 very old plastic chairs with 2 cushions and a table that was not part of the set.
11. The patio area where the "pool" was had mould all over the walls, 2 dead plants and netting which we pressume was to stop birds getting in there?
12. The walls were all scuffed and dirty.
13. The couch had a big whold under the upholtery so when you sat down it would swallow you up!
14. The only plus was that the sheets were clean.
I stay in motels at least once a month and have never come across one of this poor standard! If we could have we would vacated but the office shut at 6.30pm and no one answered! Oh, and no phone in the room to call either! Just SHOCKING

The main selling point of this small motel (about ten units) is the thermal pool attached to several of the rooms - the pool seats two adults comfortably and is situated on a very private garden deck leading off the bedroom. You fill the pool yourself with genuine thermal mineral water and so can control the depth and temperature.

If you are coming to Rotorua for a soak this is just perfect, as you don't have to share (some of the bigger hotels only have tiny mineral pools or a booking system) or pay extra to go to somewhere like Polynesian Spa.

The motel is showing its age a little in terms of its decor and fittings, but our unit was spotlessly clean and tidy, with spacious bedrooms and kitchen, and had a very comfortable bed - and at NZ$100 a night it's pretty good value too. The manager is friendly and helpful.

The motel is situated a block off Fenton Street (the main motel strip), so it's very quiet at night. It's about five minutes' drive from the centre of town and near the thermal village of Whakarewarewa.

Because it's off the Fenton Street motel strip we discovered this haven quite by chance. After a very friendly greeting we were invited to inspect a unit and are delighted to be staying here. It is spotlessly clean, spacious, with its private courtyard and spa for total quiet relaxation. All at an affordable rate. I would like to come back here for a longer stay.

This is a small complex and has units with private pools with genuine thermal water off in a lovely courtyard off the bedroom. The owner is very helpful and the whole place is beautifully cared for. As it is just off the main drag it is lovely and quiet. This motel has everything that one would want ans is spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds and an adequate kitchen.
We will be returning to this venue.

We stayed at the Gibson Court Motel in Rotorua for 1 night. The room was very spacious, with it's own kitchen and small fridge. The room was clean, but very dated.

A nice thing is that it is very central to some of the attractions, especially the Mitai Maori Cultural Experience/Rainbow Springs Nature Park, a must see! If you make a reservation, they will pick you up/bring you back to the motel.

The motel did have it's own private mineral bath on the back patio, if you wanted to use it. Personally, the sulphur smell of both Rotorua and especially the water being filled in the mineral bath was giving my husband and myself a headache, so we did not use the tub. The motel owners were very nice, and the flower gardens were lovely and well maintained. If you were with a large group or family and staying for a few days in Rotorua, this would be an OK place to stay as you could make a few meals, have your own private mineral tub and not cost a fortune. For a one night stay or if you do not care if you have your own tub or not, my suggestion would be to pay a little more money and upgrade to a motel/hotel with some amenities.

We loved the Gibson Court Motel. It may a little dated but it was clean, had comfy beds and every afternoon/evening we came back May (the owner) had filled our mineral spa for us. Best way to end our very busy days. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Rotorua now.
