Detailed Reviews
Perfect stay for big families, we had 2 bedrooms and living room with totally 7 comfortable beds. A small garden with a BBQ you can use. Basic equipment in kitchen for cooking, spa pool. Discreat and good cleaning.

Great looking from the outside but inside - oh dear! We had a GF 1 bedroom suite for 1 night at a cost of 120 NZD (potentially good value). Although it had a fair amount of space most of the equipment needed replacing and we got the impression that the whole place was badly in need of a complete refurb. Adjoining our bedroom was a mouldy roofed lean-to with a huge jacquzi; I shudder to think how many gallons of water it would take to fill it and at what energy cost. But they are into these things in Rotorua!

Response from coachman335, Owner at Rotorua Coachman Spa Motel
Responded 17 Dec 2013
Thank you for taking the time to complete our online survey regarding your recent stay at our hotel. This is Matthew Shi & Aggie Zhang, the new owner of Comfort Inn Coachman since 3rd, Dec, 2013. We've done the retrofit for all the major furniture and all the lighting in every guest room, which would present a warm and chic atmosphere for every of our guest. We really hope we could have your stay with us again in the near future.

Over priced, needs renovating, old shower paint peeling, no shower head holder, rust on heater, carpet worn. Spa was good however, roof was dirty! Unit 5 @ end of building... Noisy motor noise off & on all night, stayed for three nights, unit not vacuumed the entire stay. Unit smelled musty I had to go & buy air freshener. Outside of building covered in moss, mildew & unkept I won't stay there again.

My parents and I stayed at this motel for five nights. We were suppose to stay a week and a half, but we were forced to find other accomodation. We booked a room with a spa bathroom and upon first appearance, it seemed like we had everything we needed.
After the first night, we let staff know that the WIFI was terrible, the fan in our room had dust and mould on it, our beds weren’t made properly, a part of the door had fallen out and their were little holes in the walls throughout the room. The receptionist said the motel was full which would affect the WIFI, but she would restart the internet and see if that helped. It didn’t. She said she would speak to the cleaners about the fan and beds and the next day, we realised she was the cleaner.
The general state of lack of cleanliness and disrepair seems to be a normal thing. But the biggest downfall was the smell of cigarette smoke that was in our room. Customers are allowed to smoke on the verandas, so when it was hot and we had the windows open, it would come into our room. But more to that, the smell of it has stayed inside the room from previous tenants.
We don’t blame the girl who was the cleaner/receptionist. We blame the management for cutting costs and not hiring more employees to help her out or repairing issues in the motel. We do not recommend this motel to anyone!

Really disappointed. Stayed at the Coachman Spa last night with my friend. It was my 3rd visit as st was my favorite motel in Rotorua.
I plugged the fan in not long after we arrived and after a short while, there was a bang, a flash and I turned to see the socket was on fire and the settee almost in contact. My friend unplugged the fan, put fire out and we aired the room. He went to tell reception but it was closed.
I informed the person at the desk this morning. It was acknowledged, I paid and it was left at that. If that fire had occurred after we had gone to sleep, it could have been really serious. Potentially really harmful. As a returning customer, I was really disappointed that no concern was shown for the fright and worry this fire had caused me as I had found it hard to relax for the rest of the night.
As a regular customer, no effort was made to soothe my concern and my obvious enjoyment of their accommodation of no consequence which sounds egotistical but in fact, made me feel I was of no value as a customer.
Really sad. I love Rotorua and last night was meant to be a treat. Have been left feeling like I spent money at a business who really doesn't give a damn about the customers who stay there or acknowledge the experience their service provides.

Room 19 was a fabulous spacious room, great lighting, comfy bed, plenty of pillows.
Well equipped kitchen, 2 thick, large tea towels, cooking facilities were good and as an added bonus, the Motel supplies S&P and paper towels.
In fact our room was so well stocked for the 4 days that we stayed that we did not need to ask for anything.
The bathroom/Spa room was lovely, light and airy, a great shower and great Spa bath that didn't take too long to fill.
Staff were friendly and the owner/manager was lovely.
Would definitely stay here again.

I checked in today and was having issues with Wifi in phone. Which I explain to the reception she came and fixed it outside of the room, Then when I went inside I didn't look for net bcoz I want to rest and shower. But then I went to do some work on laptop after having shower at 6.30 pm. I realise that I am not able to get internet in the room. I have to go outside and do my work. I address this issue to one of the outside work hour lady. She told me she is happy to swap the room on a $50 charge. My question is why should I pay for your terrible wifi service. As I don't care you have to clean the two rooms or not that's not my problem. My problem is the terrible wifi and people have work and business to deal with. when I told the lady that I want to check out she was like please leave the key at the door or on the reception after hour key counter. Like for real how can you do that. Thats not customer service. Never will be back again. Thanks

Firstly the young lady on check in and check out was wonderful, very cheerful and helpful. The rooms are large and although dated, was very clean. The spa outside was lovely and relaxing. But for $160 a night you want a bit more than that!
The wifi was shocking, we gave up in the end. the beds were so soft, we both left with sore backs, but the worst thing was the constant dripping from the room above us spouting onto the clear-light roof outside our bedroom window, it was like a water torture. No sound proofing, so you could hear all noise from the room above. We regularly visit Rotorua and have had a few bad ones, but this would be the worst sleep or no sleep we have had.

Although this hotel tries to be camp by looking like it something from the 1940s it’s actually just trying to cover up the fact that it’s really dilapidated. There was no light in the bathroom, the rug was filthy, the bed was unusually soft. They have rented out half of the motel as small studio apartments probably because of the pandemic. The person in one of those apartments played really loud boombox music until 10 o’clock every night. The one saving grace was the kitchen was very clean and useful. Just be prepared if you book this place. Good luck.
