This place was perfect for us! We couldn't fault our stay. We are a family of 4 with two young boys who were visiting Rotorua for a family holiday. From the moment we placed our booking, through to arrival, our stay, and our departure, the staff were so attentive, caring and friendly. Our rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We stayed in a Family room which included personal little touches like hand written welcome notes, fresh milk and freshly ground coffee both locally sourced. We used our kitchen mainly for breakfast and making lunches, but a full oven, microwave and dishwasher completed our kitchen. Beds were very comfortable and rooms gently warmed by radiator heated by geothermal heating. Heated geothermal pool was highly used by our ourselves and our boys so we had no need to use the two hot tubs. Locked bike storage very handy. Location was outstanding, with some 2nd level rooms gaining lake views. 5min walk to Eat Street and also an epic playground on the lakefront. My husband loved the cheese scones from the Cafe next door.
Aura truly made our holiday absolutely perfect, we were so sad to leave BUT we already are talking about returning sooner rather than later to enjoy more of what Rotorua has to offer!

Our travel group stayed at Aura for the weekend — from the start we were received well and with introductions by namesake of the staff. The hotel is situated right next to the Eatery Streat and is proximate to a lot of the cities activity spots. We could leave our doors unlocked, windows open — and felt safe and relaxed during the entirety of our visit. Our rooms were well equipped with kitchen utensils and freshly cleaned daily (they also donate to a local charity if you skip a day’s cleaning). Thermal pools, swimming pools and the ability to loan a bike were all cherries on top. Cheers to the wonderful owners who took time to learn our names and our itiniary!

Kia Ora "Herzogherzog", Thanks for your review & kind comments about our wonderful staff here at Aura! We really appreciate it! It definitely is a very safe & quite area to be which is a splendid surprise especially with our awesome location being in the center of town. Walking distance away from all the amazing restaurants/cafes & geothermal parks! We are glad you felt safe & welcomed when coming to stay with us. Sounds like you made the most of all the aura-some facilities like the mineral pools, outdoor pool, bikes, & all the rest! Thanks again & have a great NEW YEAR! Nga Mihi, Maisie @ Aura

We recently stayed in a Studio room as a couple, (Studio room has one double and one single bed in one main room) The room was clean, comfortable and the kitchenette had small fridge, two elements, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery and utensils sufficient for simple cooking. Great to have three well labelled bins for recycling, compost and landfill. The thermal heating made a wet stay nice and warm and dry. Great outdoor thermally heated pool and two private mineral pools. Chloe was on duty when we arrived, phoned us to ensure we had received self check in details and gave instructions for self check in, it was a cold day when we arrived and Chloe had organised the room to ensure it was warm and welcoming. Chloe welcomed us on arrival and farewelled us. Very warm welcome and Chloe happy to answer any questions or assistance in any way.

We stayed here for 5 nights in December and glad we did. First impression reminded of a motel in the USA but the service is so much better. Very well catered for families with parking right outside rooms, free bicycles and scooters for hire , really good recommendations from stagg, decent outdoor pool and indoor thermal spa. Really appreciated the help with cleaning our car seat after our toddler was sick on the journey. The location was great with many good shops and facilities nearby. The Pak n save grocery store was a 5 min drive away. The only minor thing is that got quite warm and stuffy in the rooms due to their size and the geothermal nature of the area, i would be conscious of staying here in the heat of summer if you have more than one child. Also the doors and windows felt easily breakable, coming from Europe it took a few days to be trusting that it would be ok and this was a relatively safe area. Overall we had a really good stay and would stay again but not in the heat of summer with children as would need a/c

Kia Ora "Dapper_p", Thank you for your detailed review & feedback! Five days is a perfect amount of time to experience why Rotorua is called the geothermal wonderland but also has the sense of adventure too! The ease of parking in front of your room - especially with children & knowing how close you are too the center of town with geothermal, shops, cafe & the lakefront close is great! No need to worry about how long the kids have been in the car or trying to get them in & out when sightseeing! Our staff here really do try & help as much as they can to make sure you have a comfortable stay so we are glad we were able to help with your car seat! After all, accidents happen! It does get quite warm here but with the outdoor pool to splash around in & the ability to open your doors & windows (yes it is quite safe to do so & the doors won't fall off even with how old they are ha ha) with the fan on, it is quite easy to keep cool here. Thanks again & we hope to see you again soon :) Nga Mihi, Team Aura

Great motel. Walking distance to Eat Street/downtown and the free geothermal park, Kuirau. Very comfortable, good sized room, nice kitchenette, friendly staff, BBQ and pool available, washer/dryer w/ free laundry soap, private mineral hot pools to soak in, easy parking. We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. You could smell the sulfer - it wasn't overpowering, but definitely there. Although they provide a washer/dryer in a separate room, we ended up using the laundrymat downtown because the morning we wanted to do laundry, the washer was constantly busy.

Kia Ora "JOJOWI", Thank you for your review! Seems as though the key feature throughout your review is our awesome facilities! We are glad we were able to make your stay as comfortable as we could making sure that you had everything you needed! It's a shame about the washing however for future guests reading this, if this ever happens come & find our friendly staff as we would love to help by using our house keeping washing machine so that you don't have to go too far with washing in tow! We hope that the sulpher smell didn't put you off & you'll be back again! Nga Mihi, Maisie @ Aura

We stayed two nights in a one bedroom apartment which was comfortable and clean, with a great bed and lovely linen, a kitchenette with a kettle, fridge, stove top, tea, coffee and milk. We were upgraded on arrival from our studio booking and really appreciated the kind gesture and extra space. The property has a lovely heated swimming pool and two private hot pools which were absolutely heaven after a hard day's activities. The pools have their own clean towels so you don't have to use your bathroom towels. The staff and communication was excellent and each one of them always smiling and making you feel welcome. The accommodation was quiet and located a 5 minutes walk to the beautiful lac front and parc or to the bars and restaurants in the opposite direction. A must place to stay. We'll be back :)

We found the best things about this accommodation were the staff (warm, welcoming, and really helpful), the outdoor pool is really nice, and the location is very central to all the activity. Their focus on sustainability is commendable and enlightening. The rooms however are dated, and during the summer months aircon is really necessary. It was hard to sleep in the heat.

Kia Ora Larry, Thank-you for taking the time to write us some feedback, it's great to hear that you found our friendly staff helpful for your stay in Rotorua! A big thank-you for appreciating our focus on sustainability, it is something that can often be overlooked whilst on holiday and we are working hard to make our guests more aware of this. We are sorry to hear that you found your room to be dated, obviously we are only able to renovate part of the property at a time and I believe the block you stayed in to be next up. In regards to the heat, unfortunately this time of year does bring a good few weeks of hot and muggy weather. Please note that we are currently looking into places air conditioning units in our rooms so watch this space! :) Nga mihi, Ellen @ Aura

I booked a compact two bedroom apartment for 3 people for a 3 day stay and it was perfect. We got an extremely warm welcome by the staff, who explained all the extras on offer including, heated outdoor pool, mineral indoor pools, free bikes and scooters. We used all of the extras!

At 40m2 and apartment did not feel compact for 3 people. The beds were very comfortable and the apartment was very clean. We liked all the eco friendly initiatives like recycling and donations to charity, in lieu of apartment service.

The location near the lakefront means it is perfect to grab the free bikes and bike around the lake, through Government Gardens and out to sulphur point. I will recommend Aura Accommodation to anyone staying in Rotorua.

There was nothing we didn't like, our stay was great. Some of the fittings in the unit are old and tired but I understand the owners are working on upgrading the units over time.

Thank you Ellen for our most amazing reception when we arrived last night to Rotorua! Your tips on what to do and times to do it were invaluable, we loved the Redwood Treetops night walk and the living Maori village. Our room was spacious and very clean. If you want family friendly clean accommodation in a great central location in walking distance to all the good cafes and restaurants and to the lakeside then this is the best option! Oh also worth a mention is the warm pool and use of bikes!! Thanks Ellen, you were a breath of fresh air!!

Aura has a good location, close to town and within walking distance of Eat Streat, Lady Jane’s ice cream and the sulphur springs. Rooms have no AC but comfortable. Small kitchen sufficient for breakfast needs etc. Beware of little flies and mosquitos that invade room after dark if you have your windows cracked and lights on. (They have repellant sprays in the kitchen. ) they have a pool but it’s busy in the evenings when people return from their activities. Bring your own toiletries.

Kia Ora 'travelcookiegurl', Thanks for taking the time to write us some feedback! Good to see that you enjoyed our fantastic central location during your stay- it's definitely a huge bonus being able to walk down the road to grab a coffee, have a meal or visit the lakefront. Being so close to the lake does mean we can get trout flies visiting us over the summer months, unfortunately there isn't much we can do about that but keep those windows closed up. You'll be happy to know we have been looking into some AC options, so perhaps when you next make it over the side of the world things may have changed a bit :) You are right in saying that our pool can be busy in the afternoons, especially being heated in winter, its a great place to chill out after a days exploring. Best part is you might even get to know your neighbours and possibly end up having a BBQ together, a great example of some typical kiwi hospitality. Nga mihi, Team Aura
