Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A wonderful boutique hotel which offers everything for a perfect stay. The rooms are well appointed and exceptionally comfortable. Breakfasts are excellent. The welcome from Simon and his team is first class. Simon went out of his way way and at no additional cost to forward a couple of items which were left behind - truly service above and beyond.

We had rooms overlooking the water. Outside patio and table and chairs. A beautiful view. Our room was very spacious. Amenities abounded. Breakfast was very good and served by the couple who live at and oversee the property. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: No dinner service provided - wasn't an issue for us as very close to cafes and restaurants

We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite. Plenty of room with a beautiful deck and view of the lake. Very cozy accommodations. The manager was very helpful and provided breakfast. There is no walk-in restaurant for dinner on the property. We went to town for dinner. Relaxing and tranquil setting on the lake. Feels like a bed and breakfast.

This is more akin to a B&B as opposed to a 5 star hotel. There’s no bar but there is a sauna and hot tub at the edge of the lake and kayaks are available. It’s a very basic lodge located in a residential area and there is nothing to walk to so if you, like us, have been driving for many hours the last thing you want to do after check in is go out to find a restaurant for dinner. There is no room service. Breakfast is a basic buffet; just adequate. On check in we asked if evening meals were available and we were advised that they were not. The following day we were advised that we could eat in at the ‘B&B’ in the evening and was given a very basic but expensive menu to choose from; none of the dishes were to our taste. (see photos). We bought a local takeaway Indian meal and ate this out of the plastic cartons - hardly a 5 star experience! Our room was a very drab 1970’s pine clad cabin style room accessorised in very dated shades of brown. It felt like we had entered a time warp! I couldn’t wait to leave. It bore no resemblance to the rooms shown in Trailfinders marketing material. Housekeeping was poor. After returning from a day’s activities our bathroom had not been cleaned, morning teacups were left in our room dirty and the sachets of shower gel etc had not been replenished. The extractor fan in the bathroom was excessively noisy and insulation between floors was non existent; we heard everything going on in the room above us. Such a disappointing experience from a Trailfinders recommended accommodation.

The only reason We did not give this 5 stars is because we could get nothing to eat in the evening. We were unaware that meals had to be ordered before 3.15 because the owner/chef had to go out to buy the ingredients. After a 4 hour drive we were very disappointed to have to get in the car again and drive to the local supermarket. That said, the owner/chef did come to talk to us about how he had only just started to do meals in the evening. The following day we ordered a meal and were delighted by the high standard of cuisine. The hot tub by the lake was so relaxing!

The setting of this hotel by the lake is beautiful. It takes some finding but it is worthwhile persisting. The rooms are large and with good views. There is a sauna by the lake. The breakfast is fabulous.

Wonderful location and lovely view. Rooms directly overlooking lake a reasonable size, with a shower room. The shower could have been cleaner, and there was no plug in the sink - for the price disappointing. Breakfast was decidedly average and was also let down by attention to detail, the juice glasses were not polished. Staff were helpful, but fir the price I think we could have done better.

Beautiful location. 8.4km to Centre of town when driving. Rooms have sliding door that open onto deck and grass lawn attached to the Rotorua Lake. Rooms are average, well equipped with one d/bed, en-suite, bar fridge and kettle. small but cozy. Breakfast, was included. Average. Staff really friendly.
