Detailed Reviews
This is a lovely B & B situated right on Lake Rotorua. We had Room 4 ( which is on the right of the picture) and I would recommend it to anyone. It is large and has superb bathroom complete with personal jacuzzi. Our hosts and staff could not have been more helpful and for those like us, who were travelling around New Zealand we were able to put some laundry in which was done in-house and returned expertly ironed by the evening. We wish we could have stayed longer!!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Koura Lodge. We stayed there (room 4) for just 2 nights. The room is huge, the bathroom has a shower stall, a huge jacuzzi and a heated towel rack. The bed is very comfortable (pillows are comfortable but the big square one is a bit odd in its shape). The sliders to the deck overlooking the lawn and beautiful lake add a wonderful serenity. Then there’s the delicious breakfast buffet and cooked to order food that is prepared right within view as you sit with the other guests in the main dining and lounging room. Homemade muffins, yogurts, fruits, pressed coffee, grainy bread, homemade jams. And that’s not everything, by far. Just terrific. Finally, the staff that runs this place is so nice, accommodating and helpful in any way that they can. We had some issues with our flight arrangements and the sweet manager, Becky, spent nearly a half hour helping us get things sorted out.
The only negative things I can say about this place are that it is about a $13 Uber drive to Eat Street for dinner, and the very, very steep driveway is somewhat challenging to find, especially at night.
So, run, don’t walk, to the Koura Lodge when you are planning a stay in Rotorua.

I was lucky enough to have the apartment at this property all to myself and what a space it was. The views across Lake Rotorua were stunning. The hosts were helpful in giving me some ideas about what to do/see and where to eat whilst in the area. The complimentary limoncello each evening was a nice touch but it would have been even nicer if the hosts had taken this time to engage with their guests instead of leaving people to help themselves. I suspect that’s why my fellow guests chose not to participate.
If I were to improve anything it would be to have a valuables safe in the room and USB portals for charging devices.
I will definitely try to visit this property again as 2 nights didn’t really do it justice.

This is more akin to a B&B as opposed to a 5 star hotel. There’s no bar but there is a sauna and hot tub at the edge of the lake and kayaks are available.
It’s a very basic lodge located in a residential area and there is nothing to walk to so if you, like us, have been driving for many hours the last thing you want to do after check in is go out to find a restaurant for dinner. There is no room service. Breakfast is a basic buffet; just adequate.
On check in we asked if evening meals were available and we were advised that they were not. The following day we were advised that we could eat in at the ‘B&B’ in the evening and was given a very basic but expensive menu to choose from; none of the dishes were to our taste. (see photos). We bought a local takeaway Indian meal and ate this out of the plastic cartons - hardly a 5 star experience!
Our room was a very drab 1970’s pine clad cabin style room accessorised in very dated shades of brown. It felt like we had entered a time warp! I couldn’t wait to leave. It bore no resemblance to the rooms shown in Trailfinders marketing material.
Housekeeping was poor. After returning from a day’s activities our bathroom had not been cleaned, morning teacups were left in our room dirty and the sachets of shower gel etc had not been replenished.
The extractor fan in the bathroom was excessively noisy and insulation between floors was non existent; we heard everything going on in the room above us.
Such a disappointing experience from a Trailfinders recommended accommodation.

This was the first lodge we stayed in in NZ and unfortunately we were very disappointed . We did not feel that we received a warm welcome, the lodge reception was closed when we arrived and we had to call for someone to come, there was no offer of a drink or to help us with our luggage. Our room was adequate but quite old fashioned and there was no privacy on our deck. We also did not like the shared kitchenette. Breakfast was lovely. The view out over the lake is very nice but I feel the owners need to offer their guests a better experience, sadly this lodge did not live up to our expectations.

This boutique lodge is in the most beautiful location on the shores of Lake Taupo. The views of the lake and the immaculate gardens are memorable. The accommodation is lodge style and comfortable, the room has a patio door which steps out onto a terrace with lovely lake views, and the buffet breakfast is good. Be aware though that the hotel does not have a bar or restaurant and is situated out of the main town in a residential area and you will need to drive to get to restaurants in the evening. The hosts are welcoming and friendly and I would recommend this relaxing lodge for the stunning views and beautiful location.

Beautiful structure surrounded by greenery and with direct access to the lake, as well as a splendid view. The rooms all have lake views and are well furnished and welcoming. The common breakfast room is splendid, which can be accessed freely throughout the day to drink tea, eat a take-away dinner, etc., which has a beautiful terrace directly on the lake. They also offer guests a hydromassage tub and a sauna which are located on the pier and also have a lake view.
Very friendly and welcoming staff.
It's really very expensive compared to the average for hotels of this category throughout New Zealand (but I feel like Rotorua is very expensive in general)

Stayed here on our trip to New Zealand. Located away from the town centre in a quiet location on the lake edge this is an ideal place to stop and enjoy Rotorua with easy access to all attractions. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and provided an extensive buffet breakfast. The room was extremely comfortable and ours had direct access to the lake where there were canoes to borrow and a hot tub if required. Very enjoyable stay and definitely recommend.

We stayed in the apartment for a fantastic three night stay. The grounds and accommodation were immaculate. The provided bathroom products are high quality, and the bedding incredibly comfortable. Being a plant based foodie, I was most impressed by the scrumptious breakfast options catering to all specific dietary requirements. I would highly recommend!

Being out of town in a lovely lakeside suburb meant it was a peaceful paradise. Our room was large in size, tastefully decorated and well equipped with separate shower and jacuzzi bath. Quality amenities and some gorgeous home made biscuits were nice touches. The view from immediately outside was stunning and we loved watching the birds especially the black swans going up and down. The breakfast was very good with lovely staff making fresh drinks etc as we sat on the terrace enjoying the amazing view and ever changing cloudscape. A truly peaceful and relaxing place yet within easy reach of everything Rotorua has to offer. Next time we will definitely stay longer.
