Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A good motel with large rooms, where we had abosultely no problem. We stayed here as a base to visit the Waiotapu volcanic park and the other attractions of Rotorua as Te Puia. The rooms are a little bit underfurnished but the cost is definitely tempting.

The rooms were tired and in need of refurbishment, although they were very clean. We didn't see anyone as the reception was closed and the key was left in the room. I think there are nicer places to stay in Rotorua than this motel.

We were arriving very late and they accommodated us nicely. We were only there for one night but we found the hosts great. The rooms tidy and clean. I would suggest maybe an extra blanket for cold nights. Great value for money.

That is very bad experience during last weekend .my boy friend and I booked new castle lodge for two nights ,and we check in together, the boss has confirmed we got two person as well .After we left the lodge ,I found that my credit card has been deducted an extra $40 dollars from new castle ,I called them and the boss said we got three persons so he has to charge another $40 dollars ,this is ridiculous, never had experience in New Zealand like this .Definitely new castle make a story for surcharge .really angry about it .They framed me . This is not a good way to collect money!

We had a last minute booking and needed to accommodate a couple plus our elderly mother so requested a family room which was utterly dank and depressing. On a cold winters evening, the heater provided was limited to only a third of its power by using a screw on the dial so we were permanently cold being in July. The duvets were thin, mean and insufficient with no additional blankets provided. The carpet smelt mouldy, along with the bedding and sheets. My recommendation would be to definitely avoid this motel as there are a number of other options nearby that appear to have better offerings and even price. The owner of this motel obviously has no idea!

We stayed here and we booked on a booking site and the only reason we didn’t leave was because we had prepaid. The man booking us in was rude and didn’t even look at us just handed the key. The room was stinking and there were bugs inside because the windows were all open. The room was dated and the bathroom looked like it had a botched job done trying to make it look better. The shower curtain was mouldy too. This room wasn’t cheap either

We are booked for two nights from 20th-22nd Feb at this motor lodge on the outskirts of Roturua. On arrival for check in just before 5pm there was no one on site to check in my wife and I and another German who arrived at the same time. We were given a phone number to call because they had gone out to dinner! We were told our room was open with the key inside. There is a strong smell of sulphur in the air (which is not aparent further into town) so use of the balcony we asked for was not a pleasant experience. Sky TV is advertised but only rubbish freeview and Sports channels are available so if it is raining (as forecast) and not a sports fan you have no entertainment as there is not a single movie channel provided. The rooms are spartan and dimly lit and the outlook is over a very basic gambling outlets car park which is not evident on the photos the motel advertises. We went out for a meal and on our return found the whole motel illuminated with garish xmas type coloured lighting (yuk). After our first night we asked to check out without the hotel levying a cancellation fee for the 2nd night but they refused. Please note that we booked only a day earlier but their cancellation policy is no refund within '30 days' in advance of your booking. This is ridiculous as it suggests they will not be able to replace your booking within a month yet they showed no vacancies on arrival !! Stay clear as there are many other similarly priced options further into town. This is certainly not good value for money.

Rooms are not posh but clean and tidy, reasonable price.Good just for spending one night. Negative: there is no wardrobe in the room, isolation is not good, door between rooms, you can hear neighbors talking.
