The Fernleaf was a clean, spacious motel. We found it easily and were greeted by the helpful, friendly proprietors. The rooms were well equipped and we were able to cook a meal in the kitchenette (supermarkets nearby). On site there was a thermal pool, as well as a larger swimming pool; my family enjoyed using both. I would highly recommend The Fernleaf Motel.
Fernleaf Motel is awesome with an excellent location! Cherie picked us up from the bus stop, drove us around and gave a quick tour on which places to go and even kept our stuff for safekeeping after check out while we explored Rotorua and volunteered to meet us back at the bus stop to drop off our luggage. That’s what you call excellent customer service 👍
I gave it 5 star even though some of the furniture like the taps seemed age because the owners particularly the wife were lovely. The rooms were spacious. The location was central with a huge shopping area nearby. The motel has a thermal bath and swimming pool. My girl was really sad to leave the motel because she loved playing with their puppy. It made our stay memorable!
OK, I wan't real happy with my choice here but waited until I had at least 6 NZ Motor Lodges under my belt before writing a review. Now I'm sure this is the bottom of the 6 comparably priced places I've stayed. Kind of clean, but old so hard to feel it's clean. The window and door sills were dirty and dead bugs squished on the walls. Definitively needs upgrading and some fresh paint. Also seems to have some units leased out long term so kind of like a cheap apartment place. With all that said, it was on the low end in terms of price but in retrospect I would pay 10 to 15 $ more and stay in one of the much newer places 2 blocks away on the main highway.
This is a very centrally located motel so close to town and just a 2 minute walk to the Mall. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the service was excellent. No sky tv but they have netflix which had some very good films.But......the downside was the families living there with young children who were quite loud. And the adults sitting outside the rooms smoking and drinking .Not a good look.
Room is very clean, bedding is excellent. Everything you need to stay is in the room, including towel for mineral pool. Private hot mineral pool is amazing. Perfect spot to rejuvenate. They have Netflix available if you don’t want to live the room! Very easy to walk to town and central centres The hosts are very friendly and did a very good price deal for one night stay.
It is located in very good location in Rotorua, near central and nice fish and chips restaurant. It is located in the residential area and on a quiet street. The room has thermal heating and very warm.
Hosts were excellent, excellent, and accommodating to our young and loud family of 5 kids. SMART TV with trimmings - Youtube, Netflix. Never seen that in any motel before!!!! Gorgeous swimming pool and 24/7 genuine mineral pool (with water cooler, fan, toilet, shower). Although motel is dated, the hosts have tried hard to make the place presentable, clean, and cosy with trimmings such as kids playhouse, little ride on cars, plenty of towels for the pool. Stunning location (quiet back street and VERY close to town) - Warehouse, Food Court, Countdown 2mins walk away. Fussy guests - should inspect first. But we LOVED it. Downsides - smaller bedrooms, some parts aged, & tight parking area. If you are fussy, suggest you inspect first. But, as a total package, this motel outranks 95% of the other 50 motels we have stayed in in Rotorua.…
My friend and I were in Rotorua for a couple of nights were overall pleased with the Fernleaf Motel, minus a couple of parts. For starters, the good. We had a nice big one bedroom apartment for a reasonable price. Being two adult males, one of us made the living room the bedroom while the other slept in the actual bedroom. Two separate spaces, which made for a bit of privacy after sharing a room for most of the trip. The apartment came with a well equipped kitchen which came in handy when we had an in-room movie & home made Lunchable(tm) night the first night when it was pouring. We were pleased to find a semi-working Netflix on the TV so we could bing part of the new season of Love. The hotel had a pool and a small thermal pool, but we didn't get to try either, sadly. Now, the downsides. The beds weren't the most comfortable... my friend called them inflatable mattresses as that's sort of what they felt like. The Internet was very slow on my computer and cell phone... I have no idea how Netflix even worked with those speeds! Not only was it slow it would just go out for periods of time. This was a theme of Rotorua, so I don't blame the hotel as much as I do the Internet in the whole city, apparently. The bathroom was also in need of a refurbishment. It was fine, but the toilet only had a non-locking sliding door on it, and the shower faucet was one of the oldest I've seen in a hotel, and I've stayed in a lot. Would I stay here again? Sure. Would I recommend it? Sure. But if you are used to American style upscale chains, this is not the hotel for you.…
Typical NZ motel with friendly and helpful owners. Runs on thermal energy and has a spa pool and a small but adequate swimming pool to cool down in. Very easy walk to a large Countdown and straight on to what they call food street where most of eateries are. Large room with good shower and nice and clean.
