We had made no booking & were looking for accommodation for 3 nights for 2 adults & 2 children. Rang up Geneva Motor lodge who had a unit available that they thought would suit. Said we could view beforehand. Arrived & were greeted by a lovely lady who showed us the unit - we took it straight away. The unit had what we wanted. Friendly staff / owners. Offered us the use of their BBQ. Had a spa as part of our unit. Clean & tidy & plenty of room for us with car parking. When in Rotorua, you must do the Zipline Canopy Tour. Amazing 3 hour tour in the forrest 10 minutes out of Rotorua. The best value attraction in Rotorua. Thank you Geneva Motor Lodge & Canopy Tours for our stay.

The studio unit we stayed in had plenty of room, a couple of easy chairs and a big TV. Very clean and comfortable, good shower pressure and well worth paying a few more dollars a night for comfort. Convenient location, free Wifi. Although on a main street, units are set back and slightly down from road level so the back units are pretty quiet.

Excellent help and service from owners in providing advice on the many and varied attractions in the area on arrival
Particularly went the extra mile in arranging future accommodation at a number of locations and ferry service for the vehicle.
The room was very well appointed ,clean and comfortable.
Good location close to nearby restaurant's and downtown
Rotorua has some very interesting buildings and parks. It is a very clean well kept city
We originally planned to stay one night but stayed for three I think that says it all
Nothing to dislike
The owners could have not been more helpful and added to a most enjoyable stay

I don’t even know where to start.. we ended up at this 💩 hole as the place we thought we had booked fell thru. Charged 350 for a scabby 2 bedroom foul smelling rundown room. Decided to leave 2 mins after checking in. Reception locked, had to phone them to get them to come down, which ended in a massive argument even before they arrived at reception. These people should not be in business. Did not want to hear our concerns, where aggressive and so rude “ I know care” was all I got from there terrible English and only got a refund of 250. I thought he was going to hit me. I took the 250 and left shaking. Sleep in your car or a homeless shelter if you must - either would be considered 5 star compared to this 💩 hole.

I had a terrible experience with the host of Geneva Motor Lodge during my two nights visit. On two occasions, we felt like leaving the motel and going to another motel - first within the few minutes when we entered our room there was a strong stale fishy smell in the whole one bedroom apartment including the inside of the cupboard and draws. We opened our door, all windows, cupboard doors for many hours, even until late night to get the smell out of the room. I even hung the curtains for better ventilation. The cleaners had put some sort of air fresher when they cleaned the room minutes before we arrived and we could smell that too. Terrible yakee smell which no one likes to begin their holiday with.

The next when we were blamed and demanded to pay for making a pot mark on the kitchen bench, something that I did not do. The small pot in question which made the mark was never used for cooking by me at all, however I did use the pot to empty my leftovers the next morning and washed my bigger pots. This was cold food. It was barely 24 hours since we had arrived and what was suppose to be our two nights relaxing and enjoyable holiday was turned into stressful and disastrous one. We wanted to leave the rooms immediately but for the sake of our kid who was keen to bath in spa, we stayed on for another night and barely slept because the whole time my husband and I were thinking of why are they blaming this on us when I even saw the mark on the bench when I was cooking but cared less because it was not my doing so I was neither bothered nor worried about it. Despite me trying to explain to the host that I did not use the pot in question and I saw the mark when I was cooking, the lady insisted that I did it and she stood by her decision and she later slapped me a bill of $250 demanding payment. I will make sure that I tell at least 100 people so that they are aware of what happens and do not become victims like me. I told the host before, I am telling her now and I will tell anyone one million times that I did not do that and I was unfairly treated and my honesty and integrity was challenged. I would have willingly and openly declared and paid every cent for the damage that I may have caused, but in a situation like this where I am told I am the culprit despite me trying to express my views which were never heard and taken into consideration makes me feel sad and worried about the future holiday makers and tourist. MY ADVICE TO OTHER USERS IS PLEASE THINK AGAIN BEFORE BOOKING HOLIDAY THERE.

Response from Genevamotorlodge, Owner at Geneva Motor Lodge

WE are dissappointed that you have chosen to make these untruthful comments to both Trip Advisor & Host Accommdation. As we can guarantee that this Burn Mark was NOT on the bench prior to your arrival. When I pointed it out to you, you said you didn't know what I was talking about and asked me to show you, yet in your review and letter to Host you said you noticedthe mark when you were cooking!!!!. Also he Fishy Smell!! Why was there no mention of this during your stay wven when you were denying the damage to the bench?? You have now paid for the damage( which one would think is an admission of guilt) But I would like to think that you will think twice before you make these uncalled comments agin which only do damage to our businesses.

upon arriving, we could not see reception parking, so started parking in a space that was available opposite reception to note that the manager/owner was standing in the entrance way staring at us. Feeling uncomfortable, after gathering our bags we got out the car the immediately be told - 'NO you cant park there that is not for you'. Perhaps asking if she could help would have been a better approach to the situation!
The room was pretty old, the bathroom was dirty and the bed was terrible the amount we paid did not reflect the accommodation. we would not stay again.

We stayed for 3 days from 25-Dec onwards. After checking out the owner accused us of theft of 6 towels. We had offered that they check our luggage. They didn't and called the Police to scare us. We call police back and the police let us go after hearing how illtreated we were. The hotel then charged NZD100 from our credit card.

We booked in for two nights and found the room. Old outdated. Toilet seat was disgusting.
Shower area smelled and was not clean
Carpet was sticky and filthy.
Removed comforter and what was once a white inner was brown and dirty.
We left and booked into another hotel.

The outside is filthy, with weeds growing through the steps to the units, mould and dirt everywhere. Rubbish stored outside the laundry. Office was supposed to be open at 8am - still not open around 8:30am Saturday and after 9am Sunday. Notice on the office door to leave the key in your unit. Motel sign said "vacancies" on which there were none available. Insufficient crockery for 2 people in the unit. As a current motel employee from another city I would be ashamed to work at such a place.

I don't even know where to start with this review. This is BY FAR the worst accommodation I've ever stayed in. The male owner is rude, arrogant, nasty and completely and utterly self-centred. Final check in time was 7pm - yet we received FOUR phone calls on 8 hour drive up to see 'where we were' (and we still got there before the 7pm cut off time). This was purely because he wanted to know if he could sell the room to someone else. DISGUSTING. Once we got there, both the front and rear outside bulbs were blown - had to get them replaced. Went to make ourselves a coffee, to find dirty mugs in the cupboard.. GROSS. Then when it came to bed time, we pulled the duvet back to find FRESH BLOOD STAINS on both our sheet and pillowcase. We were asked if we wanted them changed - are you joking?! He came back with ONE sheet.. We had to specifically request the second sheet.
Roll on the morning, we went outside (we arrived once dark, so couldn't see the courtyard properly) to find glass in our 'private' courtyard (which is totally NOT private, with at least 4 windows able to see in). When we mentioned this - we were told that WE put it there, which we certainly did not. From here, we were asked to leave!!!! Because we found blown bulbs, bloodstains, dirty dishes and broken glass - he didn't like being called out on it and told us to leave.

I have never been so angry and humiliated in my life - my children were witness to all of this happening. Absolutely mind-blown that this outfit is still in business and excessively disappointed that this horrible man single-handedly ruined our first family holiday.
