We were blown away with how good this motel is. To get these amenities for a reasonable price is great value. Add on the helpfulness and friendliness we encountered and you get something quite special. It's also good on a rainy week with the heated pool and your own hot tub - so important in NZ which is so outdoors orientated but can be quite wet.
We chose two one bedroom apartments with spa pools and the manager made sure that these were adjacent. Our two kids don't like to share a bedroom so the extra bed in the living room was very useful.
The pool area is really well done. It's nicely secluded with palm trees creating a relaxing setting. There's a big, covered eating area with a BBQ (ask at reception for the tongs etc) and we had a takeaway there one day and a BBQ another with a couple of friends. The wives had a well deserved relax on the loungers along with organising the food while the husbands did the BBQ and played in the pool with the kids.
The apartments were cleverly done and far from cramped. We had everything we needed and particularly liked the spacious spa room, large, comfy bed and recliner arm chairs. There was a good sized shower room with a good sized shower, heat lamps for drying, a fan and big hand wash, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner dispensers.
We took a one month Sky Sports Now package while in NZ and were able to use the various apps on the smart TVs in the living room and bedroom to sign into this, tvnz+ and Netflix (we didn't try the Prime or Disney+ apps.) That covers all your kiwi sport, worldwide soccer, rugby, cricket etc and big US sport.
Finally, everyone there was so friendly and helpful with whatever we needed. Nothing was too much trouble, including our late check out and different requests, and the manager is a great people person. A special mention to the housekeeping team who are so accommodating and have a great team spirit. They do so much to create a happy atmosphere.

My husband & I spent 2 nights at the Sport of Kings Motel. The smell of sulphur was very strong when we entered the office & not thinking about the sulfuric air, my husband asked if there was a gas leak. 🤣 The Sport of Kings Motel is an older motel but it was spacious & very clean & even had a large hot tub in our room. I liked that the bedroom is separated from the living area by the bathroom & kitchenette. There is also a heater in the living area, bedroom & bathroom. We did wake up about 3:00AM one of the two nights to a strong smell of sulfur in our room but the next night, it was fine.

The apartment had two large rooms with three comfortable beds and a bubble bath with pleasantly warm water. Cooker, microwave oven, fridge, plenty of dishes and a table with three chairs completed the equipment. Very helpful and friendly service.

So overall the location and the service were really good! Starting with the positives it was awesome to have a big space and the spa was AWESOME! However if I have to be picky. The tvs are very old and outdated and could use an upgrade with better spacing for plugs. The furniture was soooo cool! The showers water pressure is the weakest thing I have ever felt. The pillows were way too big for my liking and my neck. The fact that the tv in the bedroom only has one plug is unfortunate when I wanted to use my Xbox in the bedroom. Other than that. Everything else was awesome! If you can’t handle the smell of Rotorua though. I would recommend finding another place as this location will punch you in the face every time you get out your car or your room 😅

There was no table, just two stools and a small counter. This was the only place we stayed in three weeks that didn't provide milk for coffee or tea. The bed was king sized and thankfully it was comfortable.
The shower fluctuated between scalding hot water and freezing cold water randomly. The lighting in the bathroom was horrendous with the mirror on the side of the sink, away from the light. And the small bathroom mirror was the only mirror in the room.
As is typical with most motels in New Zealand, there is no AC and there are no screens on the windows. You have your choice of heat and humidity or bugs.

Comfortable, clean, quiet, good location, easy to find. Reliable parking for the car. We loved the hot spa pool and the thermally heated outdoor swimming pool. The motel provides flotation tubes so you can just hang onto them in the water to relax. They provide ground coffee for plunger coffee that you can make. Just ask for a top-up each day at the office. It is also a warm motel, it uses water radiators to warm the rooms and this works very well and it is quiet. I was very snug and comfortable. The liquid soap they provide was kind of hard on my hands. I would suggest bringing your own soap and soap dish even if you only have a mild tendency to skin problems and was staying for longer than a night. Otherwise I was very happy with the place.

This is the third time we have stayed at Sport of Kings and we absolutely love it. We stayed in a one bedroom unit with private spa pool. The room was warm, modern and immaculate, and easy to get around. I am currently on crutches awaiting a hip replacement so loved the laziboy chairs, and the spa pool was at just the right height that I could sit on the edge and swing my legs across into the pool without having to bend the painful one. Tristen, the manager, is lovely and couldn't do enough for us. We didn't use the outdoor pool this time but have done previously and it was amazing. The temperature is set so that you can stay in it for ages. I can't speak highly enough of Sport of Kings and we will definitely return again.

Best ever customer service from Tristan. We loved our stay. The thermal spa in our room was just what we needed after competing in a long run event in the area. The pool was also a beautiful temperature to relax in. Especially loved the ground coffee and fresh milk provided. Ony possible improvement would be to add fans/air conditioning to the rooms but this would definitely not stop us from coming back.
