This is a very affordable motel with everything we needed for a nice get away. The private spa in the bathroom is massive, fills fast, and comes with bubble bath topped up daily.
It is less than 10 minutes to every main attraction and restaurants. Nice TV and kitchen amenities. It is tidy and there’s free wifi!
The bed and pillows could be much comfier though, and it gets quite noisy with thin walls and loud neighbours. But otherwise a pleasant stay.

The room was quite spacey, but time has definitely taken its toll. Kitchenette really tiny, odd bathroom setup, not too clean, but it does its job. Decent enough for 1 night. Staff was friendly enough and we got the free chocolate bar as a leaving present.

I don’t think the bad reviews are fair! The beds are very comfy, the shower is great, the kitchenette is fully equipped, the hot tub is amazing, the towels are plush and fluffy, and the staff are so helpful and friendly! They provided us with a map and showed us where to go to eat, provided us with fresh milk upon check in and a block of chocolate upon check out!
Sure it’s dated, but who cares. It’s clean, spacious, and had everything we needed.
The only downside was our neighbours, we had smokers who chose to sit right outside our door so we couldn’t have it or the windows opened at all on one side, and a snorer who talked really late on the phone on the other side. So the walls are very thin! But things like this can’t be helped. The wifi was the best we’ve had the entire week we’ve been in New Zealand too. I would definitely stay here again! :)

we booked a suite with hot bath and kitchen, just before Christmas. I never had noise issues and the room were really clean, the staff super friendly and professional.

We checked into our room, a Large Studio with Spa, for a 3 night stay based upon the room photos and rating on Booking.com and also the motels close proximity to Rotorua CBD. However, upon entering the room it was clear the photos were not reflective of the actual condition of the room, which was dated, smelled unpleasant and was dirty, as was apparent from the amount of dust everywhere.
The main issue we had was the bedding, which as we lied down on top we realised there was a smell of urine, and as we opened up the bed covers we found a puddle of dried urine stained on the sheet! Needless to say we were very unimpressed!!! Nothing like this has ever happened to us before and we were very disgusted. The only positive from this situation was that the hotel provided us with a full refund for our three night stay and were very apologetic. Fortunately, we were able to change to a much nicer motel next door to Malones. Because of this incident we will of course be avoiding Malones and would not recommend this motel, which was unclean and the room condition was misleading.

Do not stay here we booked four nights left after night two because of drunk people playing loud music in room next to us we contacted the manager four times nothing was done still music at 2am asked for a refund was told no so cut our losses this motel is crap the manager Amber cannot handle her job

I wouldn't go back again. It was last year so can't remember the list of things I did comment on, but it was needs must and not much choice left when I book. The beds where comfortable enough however room freezing when we got there. Should have been more welcoming

I booked here months ago and had to cancel my entire trip to New Zealand because my bother unexpectedly died on April 1st, Since I have to take care of everything, because my 90 year old Mom can't see anymore, I just assumed Malones would have no problem refunding my money, since I gave them FIVE + WEEKS notice that I couldn't take my trip. I offered to mail a certified copy of the death certificate, but they just said NO REFUNDS, NO MATTER WHAT. The manager/owner had the gall to write "Have a nice day", in the email they replied to from me. Wow... Really?!? What heartless cretins. I will make sure to NOT book with them ever again, because if someone can be that cruel, I wouldn't WANT to stay with them. If I had a motel and someone had to cancel because of the death of an immediate family member, I wouldn't even think twice about giving them a refund. Yes, I would ask for proof (lots of people lie to get out of paying for things) but I would issue a full refund for their stay, especially with such advance notice. What really makes me angry, is that these cheats will book that room I already paid for and get paid again, earning double the money. I was able to get ALL of my Airbnb fees and booking dollars back, and Airbnb took car of every reservation cancellation for me. Booking.com needs to dump Malones from their motel list.

Room was very outdated however the staff are lovely. I think it is a little overpriced and we would not stay here again. Would not recommend. There are plenty of other motels to choose from so have a look around.

This a dive very poor accommodations and poor customer service. the rooms are old and moldy and unsuitable for people with extra needs. For the PRI e they charge you can stay at a high end hotel in Rotorua. I would never on my wildest dreams stay here or recommend it. If this was an example of New Zealand's best Tourism has to offer stay away. There are better places in North New Zealand or on the South island. This place has the ability to ruiined an otherwise great holiday
