Superb accommodations including our own suite. Lovely gracious welcoming and helpful staff. Amazing meals, breakfast lunch and dinner! I highly recommend Treetops! We especially loved our hike to Bridal Veil Falls, the outdoor hot tub and breakfasts.

We were looking for somewhere special to spend our Christmas in New Zealand and Treetops ended up being perfect! Both the Christmas lunch and dinner offered were excellent, and we enjoyed canapes with live music leading up to dinner. Of course, the highlight was our hike to Bridal Veil Falls and encounters with the many deer/buffalo on the property. We felt like we had a private reserve to explore to ourselves! Ross and the team were great throughout, and the Lodge was a truly unique/special place.

I stayed in November 2023 and the honey that they provide expired in Aug 2021, 2.5 years ago!!! Also know before you book: there’s no in room dining whatsoever. If you want dinner/breakfast, you will need to make reservations 24 hours in advance. You can only have dinner and breakfast at a specific time. You can’t get food whenever you want. If you don’t make reservations, the chef will not be working. Also you can only eat in the main lodge. If you stay at the cottage, it’s ~2km down the hill from the main lodge and you have to drive a 4WD car up the steep hill. They don’t provide any transportation between your room and the main lodge. Also the pheasant cottage is more like a random airbnb, it’s in no way relevant to the word “luxury”.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave your review as we always appreciate our guest's feedback. It saddens me to read this as you booked a self-catering cottage, which was clearly outlined on the booking portal. We did send you additional information on your stay and the experience you had booked. Unfortunately, you did not read these emails and check the full conditions of what you had booked, and so you were not prepared for where you were staying. I am sorry we did not meet your expectations and hope that you will come back someday and revisit and give us another chance. Warm regards The Treetops Team

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The lodge is stunning and beautifully warm. The staff were very attentive and were quick to meet our every request. We felt special and spoiled. The chef Felipe is a genius and his food sublime. The manager Ross was so helpful and engaging giving us great ideas for our stay. Michael and Glen were fab too. The walk to the Bridal Veil Falls was a highlight. If you want a special romantic get away, or an action packed experience do yourself an favour and book a stay at Tree Tops. We will definitely be coming back again. Thanks team for making our anniversary super special. Sue and Graeme.

40 minutes drive to the nearest inhabited area. The several km road leading to the reception is in terrible condition and totally dark. They are severely understaffed and in the night all staff leaves the premises. There is no phone signal and the wifi is not stabie. The villas are scattered at least 1 km from the reception and from each other and you walk or drive a buggy in total darkness with no road markings. So unless you enjoy being on your own in the bush, choose a better place.

Sharon we have already discussed and agreed with your agent that Treetops was not a suitable property for your needs. By its nature it is a luxury lodge and villas set in virgin wilderness forest on a mountain ridge. Consequently it is removed from urban conveniences, all light pollution and villas are secluded although fully connected via satellite to wifi - in lush surroundings offering peace and tranquility. This is what our guests come to Treetops for. Unfortunately in your case an ill advised and unsuitable choice was made, you had a full itinerary and you were unable to experience fully what Treetops had to offer or what was included in a stay at our lodge and estate. Our on-site manager who lives on the property made every effort to assist you but a sound decision was made to rebook you to a hotel 30 minutes drive in town more suited to your preferences. We do hope you enjoyed your visit to New Zealand and the variety it has to offer all visitors. Good wishes, Ross Buchanan - Treetops Lodge & Estate Manager

If I die and go to heaven I hope it is just like treetops. We had an amazing five days. Phillippe the chef is a master at his craft and gave us meals that in my opinion would not be out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. Ross was the perfect host and seemed to predict our every need. In short it was a perfect stay

We came for a family weekend to celebrate a big birthday, and loved it. Arrivng in the dark is not for the faint hearted, as you drive through the dark forest which seems to get thicker and darker as you go. However, it is all worth it as the Lodge appears. Lovely lodge and excellent food; as good as we ate in three weeks in NZ. We stayed in Pheasant Cottage; a delightful and very comfotable three bedroom cottge about 1km from the lodge-all on private roads.Great to be self-contained and avery good choice indeed.

This is truly an incredible and unique place. You will not find an experience like this anywhere else. There are endless hiking trails in this remote lodge, you feel like you have the whole outdoors to yourself. The Bridal Veil waterfall is one of the most breathtaking views you will ever see. The food is delicious, with most of it locally sourced from the estate. Most importantly, the staff could not have been kinder or more generous. Harry greeted us and helped plan any activities we wanted to do and took time to make sure we always had everything we needed. The rest of the staff from the cooks and waiters, to our archery instructor were all very warm and friendly and seemed truly invested in us having an amazing experience. Cannot recommend this place enough!

It’s not often when you arrive at your destination that you know straight away that you have made the right choice. What a gem is treetops The villa more than superb . Spacious, homely and very inviting. Every amenity is provided. The warm towels much appreciated. The staff so friendly and attentive. The food is delicious. Really we could not have been happier. The surroundings, gardens, walks and wildlife very satisfying. All the geothermal attractions are within easy reach. I have no problem whatsoever in giving treetops my and my wife’s seal of approval. The extraordinary location earns this resort five stars, but when we stayed in Feb ‘23, the place was chaotic. Two very overworked members of staff doing their best to cover everything from check in to dinner service. They were charming, as were our hosts, and were very apologetic about how overstretched they were, but there is a point where the prices charged here simply do not square with the service. If you come here, the walks and views and food are absolutely fantastic - but do not expect what you might know as 5* service in terms of people helping with bags etc. The place needs more staff, for both inside and also outside, where a lot of the trails have taken a hammering from rainstorms etc, and there is no-one there to repair them.

As much as it is hard for us to reply to your review, there are aspects of your review that are correct, but we appreciate that you are able to see beyond our current New Zealand wide issues of a hospitality staffing issue and our region being a Govt declared 'State of Emergency' zone (only 3 of these have ever been declared in our country) in the past ten days with two cyclones (hurricanes) hitting our country and region. 1000's of local families flooded and are out of their homes of which many of our staff are personally affected (and made it to the lodge to serve you and our other guests) ... and you have still given our lodge a generous rating. We do have staff to repair our estate, however civil defence responsibilities come first in an emergency. If we did not do such a terrific job in maintaining our estate and trails we could have seen flooding and slips to our estate, but we have been fortunate that has not occurred. I would like to add that New Zealand has not seen this weather in a 10 day block for 170 years, and it just bad luck you have experienced this on your holiday.
